Two Questions about WoDFollow

#1 Nov 23 2013 at 2:34 PM Rating: Decent
Two related questions about WoD:

1. Will the new raiding mechanics (i.e. getting rid of 10/25 man format) be retroactively applied to MoP, Cata, etc.?

and, along those lines,

2. Will the new gear mechanics (i.e. one set of plate that changes based on spec) be retroactively applied to old expansions?

Sorry if this has been discussed, I just haven't been able to find any commentary on the situation.

Thanks

1) I'd say no. When they changed the raiding format in BC the old raids in Vanilla stayed the same.

2) I'd say no again. It would have almost no impact at all (outdated content etc). The only people this would affect are levelstop retro raiding guilds plus the people trying for Herald of the Titans and their number is rather low. So I can't imagine Blizzard doing this.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if gear does change. There's going to be the item squish in any case, and if they're changing the mechanics behind the scenes to accomodate the new "morphing" gear, they might as well stop supporting "non-morphing" gear at the same time. More opportunity for bugs to creep in as patches/hotfixes start being applied, and it confuses the leveling experience for new players.

Gear will have to be changed, with the removal of hit and expertise, i'd imagine those items will need stat rebalancing, on top of the item squish.

Do they, though?

I mean, does Blizzard really have to care? As long as they can just go ahead and change hit and expertise into another stat, for purposes of itemization, they don't need to do much.

It's not like there's too serious a balancing game at lower levels in the first place. Particularly not with the number of people running in heirloom sets, now.

"At this time, changes to gear are planned for drops in Warlords of Draenor. We are, however, considering modifying Siege of Orgrimmar gear to help players make the levelup process as smooth as possible, but aside from the removal of Hit and Expertise from all gear these changes will not be retroactive."

Well, if they remove Hit and Expertise, doesn't this mean that all old gear that had these stats will be severely under-budget?

For example... all of those Timeless pieces that had Pure Hit or Pure Expertise will now have nothing but Strength and Stamina? lol.

It remains to be seen if that'll actually be a problem, though.

I suppose they could give us another vendor selling a full stock of greens in the next expansion. And surely each craft will have a full line of Lv90 greens, but that'd require getting at least 1 character with a craft some ingredients first.

Hopefully they don't make you wait through half the zone before they allow you to access it like they did Jade Forest.

Well, OK, you could ride straight to Dawn's Blossom after the first couple quests if you don't mind getting attacked by a million hozen if you're Horde, lol.

I just mean that I'm not convinced the itemization changes are an actual issue.

Remember that right now hit/expertise are doing something. In that they are making you hit more. Blizz removing hit/expertise is equivalent to just giving the player capped hit/expertise.

So those items will actually be getting stronger relative to how they are now. It's just that items that didn't have hit/expertise are getting even stronger than these.

But since this is leveling gear, that's only an issue if the game is balanced around the stronger items in the first place. Since I doubt they'll be rebalancing the power of mobs around that, I think it's probably safe to assume that the gear that just lost its hit/expertise will be perfectly sufficient for heading into the new zones.

It ultimately comes down to how carefully they tailor the stat crunch. But I'm guessing it'll be a pretty linear crunch (I mean, why wouldn't it?), so it should be a non issue. 300 strength becomes 30 and such.

But the point remains. That item would likely get stronger in that context unless they rebalance the mobs, and I really don't see them doing that.

Hopefully, that's how it goes.

It will still be weird to suddenly be doing 2k damage again, lol.

And hopefully their proposed "solo old raids" fix works too. A part of me wants to go on an old raid binge and get all that rep and crap done, but meh. I have way too many projects on my hands to get that done right now.
