My consuming fascination with pet collecting has left me a little lost in the rest of the game. The xp you get from pet battles was such that I leveled 5 toons (for a total of 6) to 90 entirely by collecting. Which is great, since I'm not much a fan of questing. I'd do more, but I didn't plan well. My next highest alt is 53, and the only place I still need to collect from is Pandaria.

However, this left me with four of my toons level-capped in Burning Crusade or Wrath gear. I bought the pvp-blues so I could queue up, but other than the cloak and the pants from the girl on the ground level at the Shrine, I can't find anywhere to spend Justice Points. Will I have to grind rep with someone to buy more gear? New job means my in-game time is pretty limited, so I don't think I'll be able to get back into heavy raiding, but it would be nice to jump into a pick-up group once in a while.

Also, I got a few hundred good fortune charms on all my collectors. I know I'm supposed to trade them in for other coins that are supposed to be traded in for extra loot rolls, but I've never seen any kind of UI pop up to use it. Am I supposed to flick it at the boss or something?

My dual-collector DK has been flying around trying to get enough mats to catch everyone else's professions up, and has gotten a good number of motes of harmony in the process. Is there a use for them outside of the production professions?

And all the different cooking skills, worth it or not worth it?

Thanks! :)

p.s. Went to Kara to try for the pets and find gold boots for my paladin, and oh how I missed that place. Curator's voice and the Chess event - I darn near wanted to hug Netherspite :D

There is a Quartermaster for Justice Points in Townlong Steppes.

You can spend your Lesser Charms here if you're Alliance and here if you're Horde. Once you have them you can only use them in the LFR wings and the Normal/Heroic Mode of the Throne of Thunder. Maybe you only visited the LFR portions of the previous raids. In those you need another currency. Elder Charms you can get while doing the daily quests on the Isle of Thunder.

In addition of being of use for the crafting professions you can also trade Spirits of Harmony for various materials here (Alliance) or here (Horde).

If you don't plan on doing raids and supplying the Feasts for those regularly or want to collect the cooking achievements it should be sufficient to just level Cooking to 600 and be done with it.

Welcome back and have fun! :)

Also:

Item level 502 boots: The Old Seer (at the end of a short questline). You need to have opened up the Temple of the Seven Stars first, though.
And the followon, one random item level 489 item per week: Battlefield: Barrens.

The new content is a lot of fun above and beyond just the rewards, at least I find it so. And on my server, I have yet to see any griefing on Kor'kron Commanders, the mixed Horde/Alliance flash mobs have been well-behaved. YMMV. I don't expect the activity to die off all that soon, since it's one of the best ways to supplement gearing up an alt to the item level 480 to get over the entry bar for Throne of Thunder.

I read something about that. The "vanilla style grind" thread? Same thing?

Edit: nevermind, answered my own question.

If you are wanting to get to 480 iLvl (the Ilvl needed for ToT LFR and Heroic Scen.) fast, 1st you probably should read about the past updates if all you have done is pet battles :D have a guildie who has no idea on things until he learns about them weeks later, or is told about them lol...

Once you get the idea of what the Isle of Thunder is about, do the quest line to unlock all of the island (should take maybe an hour). Once done, mount up and ride around (or find a map at like wowhead) looking for a large Golden Chest. You can only find one, once a week. Inside should be a few things and the one thing you are after is an epic key. This key lets you do a scenario that has you open chests. Hopefully by the end of the 5min scenario you bank enough Elder Charms to be at cap (20).
When you run the older LFRs (and you have to run them all to unlock the next one) you will be able to roll double for chances on gear.
Elder Charms work on all the raids up to Endless Springs, and they can also be used on the world bosses: Sha of Anger and Galleon (Sha and Galleon, if you get lucky and get regular non-pvp gear, will drop regular ilvl raid gear [LFR gear is lower than normal]).

I don't know the best way for Lessers, other then to do 25 Dailies that reward x2 of them (about an hours worth of work for my DK). Killing the new mobs in the barrens (the lv90 ones), they seem to drop often and there is also the chance to get the epic item that is teamed up with the Mojo from the weekly (have to gather 150 oils, meats, stones and lumber) to create ilv489 gear as said above. I have been told pet battles give them as well so you probably are ok.

Do the quest line that came in 5.3 for the 502 boots. Once you are ilv480 you can start to do the ToT LFR and Heroic Scenarios.

If you want gear for one spec, but want to run as another..you can now! Click on our icon and look for a Loot option. This will let you set what you want loot for. IE: When I run old LFRs on my DK, I go in as Frost but set the loot that I could win to Blood (DPSing, but wanting Tank gear). When I run new LFRs, I set it back to Frost gear.

Yabbut. Pet PVP. Smiley: cool I've gone from 42-70 on my mage in my pursuit of the Trainer title, even only doing a little more than half the matches on her (sitting at 925/1000 currently). The queues are pretty instant so it's a nice steady stream of xp and PVP pet battles are completely anonymous so no worries about looking stupid. Or is it just me that does things that make me look stupid? Okay then, carry on.

It's been my experience that Justice Points are pretty useless this expansion, which is a shame. And you need a lot of rep still to spend a lot of Valor points, yes? Now that pet dailies are awarding the latter I'm collecting too many with nothing to spend them on. Lesser charms are only of use to raiders, which is a shame because I have over 5000 just sitting around. (So wish I could say OVER NINE THOUSAND right there.)

I'll be in a similar situation to you as I've been leveling a couple of alts via pet battles, so they have no gear or money. Not sure what I'll do apart from entry level crafted gear. Then if I ever want to actually play them other than solo play, grind heroics to help get their iLevel up I guess.

I can tell you now that you can find more than one a week. I have found two on my rogue, one on a Tuesday and the other on a Sunday.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but you really should not spend Justice Points on JP gear (as daft as it sounds), but instead convert them to honor and buy the honor PVP gear. You lose a few points in the conversion, but the honor gear is ilvl 476, while the JP gear is only 458, and now that PVP stats don't count against the itemisation budget you get a lot more bang for your buck (poke for your point?) buying the PVP gear instead. Also, at ilvl 476 they will start pulling you over the minimum ilvl for LFR, which I think is 460.

Do you play on EU servers? Because then it would be two different weeks. In WoW that is. ;)

I swear it wasn't my drunken self this time! it happens, I try not to come here to zam when drunk..red looks funner to push i guess when I'm blitzed

If this is true on the keys and not just a lucky bug, then awesome. I know you can save and bank keys and do the scenario as many times as you have the keys for. It is how I actually gained a lot of the old LFR gear. Over a weekend I spent around 35 coins.
PvP gear is nice if you need that one iLvl to bump you up, but you will only be able to do LFR MSV until you gain better gear.

^as i typed that last line i realized my DK was in full PvP gear from w/e the 1st season (12?) of 5.0. So when they did the next season and Mal~w/e set replaced the old set when it came to honor, it would have had the better Ilvl but I didn't have the honor to blow q.q

Getting multiple keys is very rare.

The first key comes very easy off of nearly any Rare or even the Treasure Chest (which is very much one per week).

You CAN get another key, but it is fairly rare that it will happen. I think I've had it happen, like, once.

And besides, those coins and stuff you get out of doing IoT isn't all That good anyways. The only reason to really do that Isle is to get rep with the faction NPCs so you can buy items from them... Ring, Cape, and I forget what else.

They do give coins, but those are really only useful for HoF (unless you REALLY need 476s out of MSV), and even HoF is only 483 in Raid Finder mode. Unless, of course you're doing Normal, then hey, go for it.

You can use em on the Sha, I suppose. But otherwise, not really seeing what you'd do with Coins you get from IoT. The key scenario does, however give a decent amount of gold if you need money.

But I got so stinkin much money from questing in Pandaria, I dunno what to do with it. I COULD buy BoEs out of the AH, but meh. I'm not that hard up.

As for Laecy....

1). Hit up the AH for 458 BoE, they should be fairly cheap by now. They are PvP Tier pieces, so you DO get actual 2 and 4pc bonuses (one of the Ret Paladin bonuses is just stinking awesome, same for Feral Druid).
2). Do the quest line to get the 502 boots.
3). You can get 1 489 non-tier piece (except bracers, dunno why they left bracers out) per week from the 150 resource quest.
4). You can do Heroic Dungeons to fill those pesky ring/trinket slots, and use the Justice to Buy Honor to buy PvP gear (PvP gear is just as good as PvE gear of the same I-level).
5). Hit up the AH for a 502 weapon if you've got extra gold. They are the ____, Reborn weapons. Unless, of course, you're an Enhance Shaman or a Staff-User, then you're SOL. No 502 BoE for you. Just be careful of what you buy: There are 3 different tiers of Reborn weapons. 463, 476, and 502.

You should have 480 in no time. I have a warrior who's got 470 and all he's got is a 502 weapon I made and like 3 pieces of the barrens gear + 502 boots. His rings and neck are crap and he's got heroic dungeon trinkets. He does a good 60k+ DPS, easily enough to get him into LFR HoF.
