Oh, forgot the RL portion...

Girlfriend's graduation was fine. This is the fourth college graduation I've been to (including mine), and they're all pretty silly, IMO. I had been to another one at UF a couple years back and this one seemed much more crowded... which makes sense, as it was for the college of liberal arts and sciences (the last one was for physical therapy, I think). My girlfriend was in one of the first rows called up, so after I had about 90 minutes of just sitting around, waiting for it to end. I was a little disappointed in her family; her parents showed up about half an hour late, thus missing her walk, and left the ceremony early. While I think the whole pompous affair was... well, just a bunch of pomp, I still was happy to show up 40 minutes early and stay through the end; I was really proud of my girlfriend. Ah well, perhaps I'm overly critical; she didn't realize they weren't there until later that night, and sorta brushed it off.

After the ceremony we went to her house in Jacksonville, driving through INSANE weather (the streets were flooding in several places as we got near), and had a fun (and delicious!) party. Ah, Filipino food!! I spent most of the time there chatting with her cousin's husband, who is a couple of years older than me, and an actual rocket scientist (degree in astrophysics, who just got an MBA). Pretty fun guy; was refreshing to talk to someone so educated; we discussed politics, religion, economics, and sci-fi. Came away with a good book suggestion about Wall Street insider trading in the 1980s (Nabisco, in particular, I think?) called "Barbarians at the Gate." Need to look that up... anyway, it was refreshing because my girlfriend's immediate family is very VERY conservative Southern Baptist, so most of the conversations end up being about God and the Bible, etc.

After the party we went to her cousin's house and watched Lincoln. Pretty good, liked it better than Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. Was a late night, but a lazy morning. Started the drive back around 1:30, and I officially hate my GPS, because it took me on a route that I've pretty sure was a good 30-40 miles longer than it needed to be. In general I estimate the return trip should be 3 to 3 1/2 hours back; I didn't get home until after 6:00, meaning it took 4 1/2 to 5 hours. Eeesh. Drank way too much last night for Cinco de Mayo (tequila, you win again), and I was hungover all morning. I can't party like I could in my early 20s any more Smiley: lol Proud that I didn't call in sick, but man, I was useless this morning. Luckily, classes just ended here and I haven't had much work all day. If I had to have picked a good day to be under the weather, it was today Smiley: grin
