Why?
Test of Valor quest. It is the one that makes you earn 6k VP, and only start counting when you start the quest. It takes 6 weeks at minimal to do, if you cap each week.
And now: This!? (scroll down to Achievements). ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? It took me way longer then the normal person to get the 20 coins to advance that story to have already probably earned 3k VP before starting Test of Valor.
I'm at like 4,600/6k atm because at 2 different points I said "F this, getting to cap each week" and would only earn VP from Normal Raid that week and will (hopefully) be done with the quest before this change..but..c'mon... *smashes head into table*

5.3 can't come fast enough, so many changes I really can't wait to abuse (mainly the Q as one, get gear as something else).

Trillium has to be the most annoying material I have ever worked with (yes, even more annoying than Khorium).
My Horde characters are simply in love with Black Trillium Ore.... I plant a full garden and I get something stupid like 12x black, 4x white. Or 8x black, 6x white. I kill a rare and it drops a small bag of goods? I open it and get 10-12 Black Trillium Ore.

Why couldn't Blizz have given us a White<>Black Ore transmute or something that doesn't have a daily cooldown?
Say... 1x White Trillium Ore + 2x Ghost Iron Ore = 1 Black Trillium Ore (and one to turn Black into White) so that we could at least even out the ridiculously imbalanced stacks in our banks?
Yeah, my friend and I just recently completed the 6000 VP step in the chain and I don't really see myself wanting to go through all that on my alts (especially since the next step involves BGs/PvP which I hate).
I farm ore on some of my alts as well and I'm seeing way more black Trillium than white on most days. It's frustrating. I did notice however that you can use spirits of harmony to buy Trillium ore at a rate of 5 for 1 spirit and I'm tempted to use my Hunter's spirits for that since he has no other use for them (herb/ench).

I wonder if Blizzard intentionally made Black more plentiful than White if you're Horde, and vice-versa if you're Alliance? I notice a lot of Horde characters in your sig... you're talking Horde, right?
My Horde are the same way -- way more Black than White.

On Alliance I also get way more white Trillium, but apparrently it isn't the same for the rest of Alliance on my server, as AH pries for black are lower. So I can sell my white Trillium, buy the same amount of black to even out my stacks, and make a small margin in the middle. Of course AH prices being what they are I can't see this lasting, but I'll make the most of it while I can.
It is a legendary quest line, /shrug.
They throw random time sinks such as rep grinds, random raid drops etc, that will keep you working until the next patch.
However I do agree the optional, but pretty much forced time sinks like lesser charm & vp farming as well as LFR are pretty lame. For the trillium portion of the legendary I have a main who doesn't use Spirit of Harmony and was sitting on a huge stack of them. I just use the harmony vendor to by A LOT of base ore of this expac and then sent it to an xmute master. Though on AH i think i could have obtained the necessary number for 2k gold, which is fairly cheap.

Yes, I play Horde almost exclusively. I haven't had time to mess around with the Alliance alts yet this expansion.
I did buy some white trillium to balance out the surplus of black that I had and now for the past three days, my farming has turned up more white than black. :P Figures.

I've basically decided to take a break from WoW to get some stuff IRL done. I hope to have all that biz done by 5.3. I think I checked last night and I've only gained maybe 200-300 more points from OP. I'll just wait.
The next leg of the quest doesn't bother me, as I have an alchy and a farmer who can farm ore like there is no tomorrow.
has there been an ETA when 5.3 is to come?

It takes 6 bars to make 1 Living Steel.
Therefore, it takes 60 Ghost Iron Bars to make 1 Living Steel assuming no mastery procs (which are getting pretty rare these days).
That's 120 ore, aka, six stacks of ore.
It takes 18 LSB to make 1 "Reborn" weapon.
That's 108 stacks of Ghost Iron Ore, or 2,160 Ore. Again, assuming no mastery procs. Oh wait, you need Ghost Iron for the Lightning Steel Bars too. 600 Ore, in fact, per weapon. So it really takes 2760 ore for a weapon assuming no procs.
Yuck.
I'll use the xmute trillium in a pinch if I must (If I'm running out of time), but I'd rather not blow that much ghost iron.
EDIT: Meanwhile, planting 16x Snakeroot Seeds will yield 16 Trillium Ore (plus 10-15 ghost iron ore) in any combination of Black/White. More often than not, it ends up being 10/6 or 9/7. Rarely it is a perfect 8/8, and every so often I'll see a 12/4. At 10/6, I get 3 Trillium Bars which is half of what is needed for a single Living Steel bar.
If the stacks get too far out of whack, then I'll just plant Songbells so I can buy 5 Trillium Ore of whatever I'm low on. It is annoying to have to do that, but meh.
Doing it that way, even on an 8/6 (3 Trillium), I'm saving myself 30 Ghost Iron Bars with 5min of work and a daily cooldown (the farm).

Your assuming No Trillium procs and no Living Steel procs. Ive been making tons of money since the beginning of the expansion doing this. I have 5 Alchemists 1 Potion 4 Transmute, every day I buy 16 stacks of bar (or 32 stacks of ore) and almost every day end up with 6-10 LS to sell, which sell out every day.
130g a stack of Bars x 3 = 390g, 1 Living Steel sells for 500+ guaranteed 100 g profit per, and any procs are automatically more profit. Ive never done 16 stacks of ghost iron and gotten less then 38 bars.
Its not a ton of money per day but its keeps all my toons enchanted and gemmed.

Then you have far, far, far better luck than I.
There were a couple times I've done a batch of 12 GIB>TB and I ended up with maybe 16-18 bars. 18 is my lucky day.
Living Steel?

Let's just say I can do 10, 15+ in a row and see a bunch of 1s. My Alliance Gbank currently has 24 Living Steel Bars.
I've seen a mastery proc twice: a 2 and a 4 (I was literally saying thank you prayers). So, out of 24 LSB, 6 of those were "Extras". So, 18 attempts, the mastery proc'd twice.
