Why I love MoP Heroics...Follow

I've been having extreme fun in Heroics these days, something I just hadn't done much of since Wrath.

Did a little HoT heroics in Cataclysm, but that was mainly in a push to get LFR Deathwing down.

But now, especially with my Monk, Heroics have been incredibly fun and while at work, I've been trying to think of why exactly that is.

People will tell you that MoP Heroics are "Easy". Well.... yes, they are. However... now that I think about it, I think I get why exactly people say they are "easy". The mobs do not hit all that hard at all with their basic melee attacks -- this puts far less pressure on the tank and healer. They hit hard enough that a DPS won't want to try tanking one, and hunter pets just can't keep up with the damage for long, but yet tanks can be lesser-geared and still survive in Heroics.

In Cata Heroics, I remember trying one as a barely-geared tank and trash mobs were near-killing me on every pull even with max CC used. I ran two heroics with a Paladin Tank who was wearing mostly 450 crafted with a couple 463 pieces. She did just fine, and the healer wasn't super-geared. Heck, one heroic I saw a bear druid with full Dread Wastes gear (not even 450) and he did SM Graveyard all the way up to the monk without dying. He only died because he pulled the monk and 3 of his friends. We wipe and try again, we got that boss down just fine, and then he overpulled again inside the monastery (causing a wipe) and wound up leaving the group. If he had been more careful with pulls, he would have finished the instance with some mild difficulty on the healer's part.

The bosses, however... will still kill you dead with their mechanics. Earlier this morning, I got one-shot by Rattlegore because I didn't notice my bone buff went down at some point and I was running over to get a new one.......and I drop dead. 497k damage done to me. Ouch.

Or the priest who died in <2 seconds because he didn't move after Lillian Voss's mass death grip.

And then, I died yesterday at the first boss of Setting Sun Garrison because I had been Sabotaged and I did a roll to get away from my group members.... only to roll right into two bombs just as mine exploded. BOOM. Dead in an instant.

I like how they made these heroics, IMO this is a much better way to do it -- more focus on working/dealing with the boss's mechanics and less focus on how much gear you have and how fast you can mash buttons and/or ridiculously tight mana conservation for healers or Wrath's "Healhealhealhealhealcan'tstoponesecondhealhealhealhealhealheal" model they had going.

So... Kudos to Blizz on this one. Great work! Hope to see more of it next expansion.

While I find them to be too easy that's not a problem. Just discovered Challenge Modes for me and they have the hard-hitting mobs and mechanics I want in a dungeon so the heroics being easier doesn't affect me at all.
I, too, think Blizzard got it right this time.

Maybe I should run a heroic to see if I can agree now, or still disagree. I only like running heroics when people are geared so we fly through them, it has been a months now since I've ran one (ran to get Heroic gear, so I could do LFR & not be so fail in MSV normal). The last time I did, it was taking up to 30min to finish one. Pass on wasting that much time for just a little VP :3

The first Heroic is 80 VP and the second is 40 VP, that is not really "just a little VP", 5 dailies can take as long as 1 heroic and you only get 25 VP for that.

I only do heroics for VP when I have done my dailies and my first scenario. If you get paired with a guild group you can complete the longest heroic in about 15 minutes, if you get total random's and a long instance then it still usually only takes about 20-25 minutes. For the time invested it is a pretty decenty return on VP.

They are extremely easy with some few if any real worries, the Rattlegore battle is the only one I usually die on and that is random. The encounted seems a little bugged sometimes, I will have boneshield and then it magically disappears and I get a .5 second warning before I am dead to go get another shield. When you get a decent warning then you usually do not die.

I think the heroics are really just a stepping stone to move into the LFR's for the casual gamer so they did not scale them with as much difficulty as they did in prior expansions. For me in Cata, I was pretty much maxed out with heroic gear due to time commitments and lack of desire to play. Now I am getting almost fully epic'ed with 489 gear with an hour of play time a day, 2-3 hours if I raid and do all of my daily/scenario runs.

Plus you can't overgear Challenge Modes, so they never get obsoleted.

Standard heroics were meant to be a gearing-up stage and they do that very well. No complaints at all with how things are in dungeons these days.

On my Monk, I've been doing Golden Lotus, 1 Heroic, 1 Scenario, and Shieldwall dailies.

Some days I'll do 2 Heroics instead.

She was Valor-Capped, and now as of today, she has 1690 VP, so... 3 days, 690 VP for doing just that.

Heck yeah, I can get behind that. And when she caps on Valor, my Paladin gets +50% Valor Gain for the week.

Heroics are very smooth running, most of them are finished in <20min, and the few that aren't, Blizz is going to be adding extra Valor to in 5.2 (+5 or +10 valor depending on which one) because they are longer than the others.

So yeah, give it a whirl. If you're 440+ avg, you'll be fine as long as you know your class reasonably well. You don't even need gems/enchants. Those are more for raids/LFR anyways.

Edit: Also, even as DPS, I routinely see 10-15min queues. I'm loving this, apparently lots of other people are too. DPS queues were never this short back in Cataclysm, lol.
