Recruiting Ideas?Follow

My guild got hit pretty hard after Dragon Soul - a perfect storm of burnout, job changes, schedule changes, computer problems, health problems... Even when healthy, our raiding population was only marginally viable populationwise because the core raiders were very flexible. Now... We weren't even sure if we wanted to try to rebuild with the few who were left, but we're going to make a go of it.

The (new) GM is going to put us in LFG, and we have a volunteer to post/monitor on the official sewerforums. We're going to try old-school pugging via chat.

What I'm looking for is other ideas that we're missing - other resources, sites, places where there's a community that can be reached.

My first suggestion doesn't have anything to do with recruiting, per se, but here goes:

Make sure you have the leadership, structure, rules, and goals firmly in place and laid out for everyone to see/acknowledge, especially new recruits. Trying to attract the right kinds of people to your guild will be hard enough to begin with, but you need to have the ship running smoothly in order to make a good first impression with recruits. Filling out your roster will go to naught if you're not organized and provide the new recruits with what they're looking for in a guild. If you want to raid, then you better have a good raid leader, strats worked out, etc. to show recruits you guys are up to the task.

Also, Here's a recent WoW Insider article on finding a guild. There may be some useful ideas you can use (reverse engineering) to help you recruit.

Good Luck.

Ideas? I don't know any.
But maybe have everything planned out like:
1) Time. However many you have in the guild now, decide when raiding will work for you all. Have that in your shout,/2,/lfg, posting...w/e.
2) Size. 10man or 25man?
3) An ilevel. Are you guys planning on starting with MSV? Or are you planning to run LFR for a few weeks? Or have many of you been doing dailies everyday and hit VP cap each week and there for your core can skip the "starter" stuff and start with HoF or Endless Springs?

Our guild has been sputtering all MoP. I say that and we are 5/16 HM, but spotty attendance and losing at least 3 geared players around Xmas has held us back. 2 of which left because we lost almost 3 weeks due to Christmas Smiley: frown

I maintain a thread on our server forum. Our Kitty DPS on others. We throw some recruitment in /2 but try not to be insane about it. Most of our recruits are mainly word of mouth, people we play with in pugs and stuff who have friends. We are trying to build our 10 man up to have flexibiity so people can have days off.

You could always try what we did back in the day and make a recruiting video. I'm not sure it actually accomplished anything, but it was a lot of fun to make.

Actually, I'm lying. I know several of our apps referenced the video as what made them decide to check us out. It's just from a time spent to apps gained ratio that I'm not sure about the effectiveness.

Disclaimer: I wasn't one of the couple of folks who put in the bulk of the work, so it might have been more of a pain in the *** to make than I remember.

I didnt see where you said what level your guild is, if its 25 then ignore this but if its not ...

Try leveling your guild some? I know the perks of having a 25 guild is what attracted me to my guild in the first place. Building rep is painlessly easy now a days so if someone does not have to work too hard to get a majority of the guild perks then that is a pretty good selling point.

I forgot to add: Trials.

Try different people, mix and match. Let non-current (and maybe even current) guild members know they are on trial. Might be used one week/run, and not the next.

We are kind of doing this right now in the guild I am in. We had a nice core group when I joined, but it seems like it was on a decline. Last month, it seems I've had to teach 2-3 different OTs what to do in normal MSV 10-man, and handfuls of DPS mechanics for the fights... We have finally narrowed it down to 2 possible OTs, and a few needed DPS.

Don't forget to cater to the casual crowd with casual Fridays. By casual I mean naked.

^ always good info.

Me and one of the healers always suggest the rest of the guild drink with us on Friday night as well. Raid, and w/e might happen after raid can get pretty...fun when a tank and healer are drunk. Still not sure what happen last Friday, I just remember two large dragons and yelling at the healer (who is a RL friend) in vent.

Damn you MF. I had to log in just so I could rate this up.
