Pet Battle...leveling tips?Follow

Anyone have any good tips for leveling lowbie battle pets quickly (or at least efficiently, I guess)?

I've read some tips from a couple sources, and I'm trying to formulate a strategy. Just seeing if anyone has good ideas.

Possibilities:

Tag team two or three pets of same/similar level on wild pets within a couple levels of the teams.
Team up a lowbie with two high level pets against a high level opponent. Get the lowbie one round of action, then kill with the higher level pets.
Pet tamers/dailies.

I'll probably try out all of these to some degree. I'm looking to get the 15 to level 10 and 15 to level 25 achievements, as well as the all pet types to level 10 achievement. In addition, I want/need to raise a couple elemental/magic/human type pets up for high level tamers.

If you have a couple level 25 pets, the best experience per fight it to tackle an easy pet trainer, like the one in Valley of the Four Winds. I can solo all three of her pets with a rare level 25 Mirrorstrider. What I will do is put my low-level pet in first and swap it out after one round. Since level 25 pets don't take any of the total exp earned, my low-level pet that fought for 1 round ends up with 4k+ experience. The downside is that this particular trainer can only be fought once a day, and I haven't found any other trainers that are quite so easy to beat. My other favorite spot is in Northrend in Zul'Drak. There is a marshy area just south of Argent Stand where there are a ton of battle pets to fight. If I remember correctly, it's a mix of elementals and critters.

First off, I would strongly suggest getting a team (or more) to 25. Hitting all the trainers (you'll probably want to for the quests anyway) helps this along nicely.

I find it helpful to take whatever prospective levelers I have to a main city and do a few fights to get a handful of them to 5 or so real quick.

Take a pair of 25's and a lowbie - I find 5 a safe level to start at - to a pet-rich area of 23-35s. Southern Kun Lai is great I think, nearly all beast/critter types. Do the 1 round swap with the lowbie and burn through them with your 25s. You can get a pet from 5 to 15 in a few fights real quick that way. Usually takes maybe 30-60 mins to go from 5-25.

The trainers are great, and do provide a big xp bonus, but they're limited and scattered. So if you want to hit a couple before camping a spot that's probably great but it seems less time efficient to me to go around hitting them all than just parking somewhere and grinding.

Once you get those first few capped out though, it gets way easier. You'll get to know the areas and what types of enemies to expect so you can take out the 3-pack with 1 or 2 of your own easily freeing up a spot for uberlowbie xp padding.

I know the numbers *should* suggest otherwise, but I've tried leveling multiple pets at once and it just seems so much slower to me. It seems like I can get 3 pets from 5-25 quicker this way than, say, leveling a set of 3 15s to 25 together if that makes any sense.

OK, I checked out pet battles when they first came out and I liked them, but didn't have enough time to play with them much. I'm just starting to get into them now. I've started to level a handful of pets, gotten some rares and I'm about to start on the Outland pet trainers. How about some general tips?

For example -- I'm abusing fluxfire feline while I can, hearing that it is probably going to get nerfed. I can take out higher level pets, but I see that they lose XP when captured. What am I doing wrong?

By XP do you mean levels?

Yeah, if you capture a lvl 25 pet it'll drop down to 22 or 23 I think. I don't recall if that goes for all 20+ pets losing levels upon capture or if it's just 25s.

I can only assume they've done this so you still need to level all pets after capturing them.

Ah! So things are working as intended? I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing like -- "don't use level 20 crabs to beat up level 17 snakes" or "don't abuse the fluxfire feline to whomp on things three levels higher than it." Thanks!

It's the same as when you use the upgrade stones. Over 21(?), the pet loses 2 levels, over 15(?), they lose 1 level, and the rest stay the same.

Easiest way is usually the simplest:

Have 2 Level 25 pets, grab a third you want to level. If said pet is Level 1, you're going to need to get it a few levels first. Easiest thing to do, is use the 3 dailies that give XP (Elwynn/Westfall/Redridge or Durotar/Barrens/Ashenvale).

Put your Level 1 wimp first in the lineup.

In the battle, make the level 1 go one turn then swap your Level 25 in and finish them off.

By the time you finish those 3 dailies, your pet should be ~Lv10 IIRC without the Safari Hat.

Now they're strong enough to actually level. Get a Lv25 Flying Pet with a Heal Spell (the Pterrodax Hatchling is easy to get and works awesome for this) and go to Jade Forest.

Many pets in Jade Forest are Aquatic (and thus weak against your main two abilities). Set your Pterrodax (if you're using that) up with Flyby, Blessing, Lift Off.

Go to the river where you see all of those turtles. These are all aquatic and that hatchling will absolutely destroy them fast. The hatchling also has a powerful heal spell, and an ability that allows you to dodge for one round. Using Flyby and then Lift Off pretty much guarantees a quick kill on anything aquatic as long as it isn't a blue. As far as I know, there's nothing he is weak against in Jade Forest (except the serpent hatchlings), so it should be very easy.

Anyways, the method is the same: Let the wimp take 1 turn, then swap him for the hatchling. Destroy the enemies. Watch him gain 900 XP per battle which is a guaranteed levelup until at least Level 16-ish, then every other battle gives a level until at least 21 or so when it might start to take a battle or two.

Edit: Do not try this in Krasarang Wilds -- there are millions of Jungle Grubs down there and they almost always use Sticky Goo their first round, preventing you from swapping your wimpy pet out.

Best way I've found:

1. Get a Flayer Youngling to 25. Should be easy; he destroys critters, which are about 50% of the wild pets you'll fight.
2. Go to the Veiled Stairs (the area near the BMAH) and start the fight with the pet you want to level.
3. Attack once, then switch to The Flyaer Youngling.
4. Mop up the critters, enjoy the thousands of experience your lowbie pet gets.

The Flayer Youngling is a hard counter to critters, and there are ONLY critters in this area. If you get good at timing your Reflections, you can go 3-4 fights without needing to heal... and even when you do heal, you have a stable master right nearby. I can level a pet from 10 to 25 in about 30 minutes here, with no risk at all.

The hardest part of this is getting a Flayer Youngling, honestly (especially a good breed and rare quality). I think the Wolvar Pup works too, as they are very similar.

This is what I was trying out last night. Southern Kun Lai, in particular. Seemed like a really good zone for lots of pets to battle without moving around a lot. And, go go Clockwork Gnome :-). I was mainly focused on trying to get the level 10 achieves for each type and 15 to level 10, so I didn't push the lowbies to 25. But, the technique worked great. I'll come back when I start pushing for the level 25 stuff.

I do need to get the tamers done, but I'm thinking I want more diversity in my high level pets to do the higher level tamers. So, for now I'm postponing it.

If you're trying to capture, grab a Terrible Turnip asap, and level it up. It has the ability to leave the enemy pet with 1hp, so you can use the TT to trap any level pet.

I just picked this up, but I'd recommend getting this add-on --> www.petsear.ch/addons it's available on Curse.
It gives you the pet breed information of your pets and the pets you're battling, as well as the potential breeds of each pet type.

If you're not familiar with breed, there are 10 different breeds (http://www.warcraftpets.com/wow-pet-battles/#breeds) possible, although most pets only come in a couple different breeds. In general, though, there are Health (H), Power (P), Speed (S). Or, pets that are Balanced (B) stats. Breeds can be have all points in one of the stats, stats in 2 of the 3 stats, or all three stats. These points affect the formula for base stats and level-up gains. The pure pets like P/P for power pet, or S/S for speed will be really good at that one attribute, i.e., more powerful, faster, or more health. The pets with points in all three will not be as strong.

The add-on I linked above displays the P/P, S/S, etc. on the pet info. I've only begun to check this out, but I think it will end up being really important as I try to progress in battling.

Another tip:

Don't overlook the value of rare quality pets. If you're just planning on collecting and not doing much battling, don't worry about it to much. But the higher I get with battles, the more I realize how much difference the stat boosts from higher quality mean.

I'm now going to have to go back and grab some rares to replace pets that just aren't cutting it in higher level battles. In particular, the dragon, magic, elemental types that seem to be really important in higher level battles.

You can take a pet from lvl 1 to 25 in under 10 minutes if things go in your favor (19 fights if you have the hat).

You'll need two 25s (well, don't NEED, but it helps), as well as a friend or second account that also has two 25s.

Both players then pick a 3rd pet of matching lvl, and then simultaneously queue for a pvp pet battle. As soon as the battle begins, one person forfeits (you don't even need to pick a pet), giving the other one 1000+ exp for most lvls, and slightly less once you close in on 25.

You'll occasionally run into others queued for pvp at higher ranges, but it's not terribly common and will only add a minute or two to 25 at the most. Just quit the fight, and re-queue.

Careful, that might be seen as "cheating the system". I doubt Blizz would ban you for cheating the Pet Battle System, but this does sound more like an exploit rather than a legitimate use of the system.

At the least, they'll probably end up patching it if too many people do this.

And besides, the actual supported way doesn't take THAT long that one should feel the need to cheat the system anyways.

Worried about the pet trainers being spread out? Camp an alt next to each one and all you have to do is switch toons, do a battle, switch toons, do a battle etc.

One of my guildies has been doing the northrend & Cata tamers each day like this and basically has a new pet at 25 every day from about 10 battles

Some good news about 5.2 for those hunting the Scourged Whelpling:

CRZ and Scourged Whelpling... oops, amirite?
Your prayers have been answered. We made a dramatic reduction to the respawn timer on these in 5.2.0.

In 5.2 the respawn is better for scourge whelpling. Will the same be applied to Minfernal?
No changes to the Minfernal, we are happy with it's capture rate. Scourged whelp was way off, its similar to Minfernal now.

How much experience does an elite pet give (5.2) and can each individual boss (elite) pet be beaten once a day? Curious for leveling
They give standard XP but their daily quest has a much higher chance to drop a rare battle-stone.

Apologies if the color looks atrocious. Also, frogs are getting an upgraded skin (FINALLY)
