Daily quests are a cheap substitute for truly engaging content and activities.

"We can't really think of any kind of decent solo content so we're going to put a TON of monotonous repeatable quests in the game."

And I love their reasoning too "Well, we removed feature X because it was 'unfun' so we're going to add 10 times more of feature Y with the same unfunness but since it's named something else we'll defend it as 'fun'."

Care to add what they could have put in the game that would appeal to a wide variety of people that would be not only a time sink but a money generator?

Sure, I'll shoot.

Put mounts, pets and a few token goodies behind rep grinds. Keep access to Valour Gear away from the rep grind barrier.

Cap Valour Points, both weekly and an overall cap as we currently see.

Allow valour points to be earned via daily quests, dungeons, scenarios & LFR to allow for a myriad of available path to hit your weekly requirements to max. Have the math work out to 1.5 to 1.25 pieces of gear per week, perhaps big ticket items like chest & legs be worth 1 & half weeks grind. Earning VP gear, or VP to upgrade gear in 5.1 will then mirror Conquest Points, with a little more variety. The rep & rep bonuses are still there for players who enjoy the content. Also players who dislike one particular part of PvE have multiple ways to earn VP.

Aye I was thinking something along those lines also. It seems weird that they would put vp gear behind massive rep grinds like that. Good constructive criticism though. Just one question...

Who are you and what have you done with bodhisattva?

I am actually a guy with a hook for a hand that escaped from the Asylum. So another piece of good advice, only answer the door if you know who it is.

Bodhisattva is actually tied to the radiator, which turned out to be a really good idea because it keeps the body warm,

Here's another idea. Let JP be earned from dailies and scenarios, and put rare of JP gear on a regular vendor. Then, put epics that can be purchased for JP as rep rewards. VP would come from raids and heroics, and be used to buy the same epics without the rep grind. Raiders can use VP to fill the holes in their gear that the fickleness of RNG, and non-raiders can still grind reps and do dailies for gear progression.

The only problem I see with that is the problem we had in cataclysm, which is something they want to move away from. That is, of course, people just sitting in a city spam queueing and doing nothing else.

The out-of-city content should be compelling enough on its own to encourage people to leave town.

A good idea in theory, but one that won't work in practice. Once people hit level cap, they tend not to care about story -- at least not after they've gone through it on one toon. What does that leave? Dailies. Something that can be done to cover repairs and buy the odd bit of gear off of the AH. I can see the downside to dailies, particularly with multiple toons, but I don't see a viable option. By viable, I specifically mean one that does not lead to more competitive players dashing through content and then complaining that they're bored.

The constant whine of the O-boards and sites like MMO-Champ is toxic; it feeds the astroturfers and strange stalker types (the ones who haven't played since TBC by their account, but they post about WOW multiple times per thread). Short term rewards would be nice, but they would only feed the whine in the long run. Really, in some ways Blizz can't win the forum wars. No matter what they do, there are enough vocal posters who want to fuss that they could give everyone a month of free game time and an hour later there would be twenty threads talking about how Blizz is lazy, GameX is going to be the next big thing, giving away free game time proves WOW is dying and only heartbeats away from going free to play ... etc.

Who says it has to be lore quests or dailies? Mini-games like Tillers, pet battles, and the one-shot plants-vs-zombies quest near Dalaran crater are a good place to start. Make the side activities fun, and people will leave town because they want to leave town. Forced dailies for anyone that wants VP gear is the wrong way to get people to enjoy the content.

I find Tillers far more vexing than the average daily. Oh look! Another Virmen in my soil that won't give me loot but instead headaches with its incredibly annoying screeching. -.-

Actually, I don't mind dailies, Pantherfern, I think they are to some extent a "necessary evil" in that they ARE content, and some might even be fun. My gripe with the current (or at least current last I logged, three weeks ago or so) situation is the whole VP-dailies tie-in. Random dailies drop way too few VPs (30 last I logged) which means for someone like me who doesn't have time to raid on a regular basis, but still likes to run a raid here and there, dailies, with their oh-so-high 5VPs per daily is currently the fastest way to get VPs, and you need to do a few of them anyhow to be able to cash in your VPs.

I spent a few weeks at 90 doing dailies almost non-stop when I dinged. I got to exalted with a faction, revered with Klaxxi, Anglers, Tillers and Golden Lotus and Honored with August Celestials and still missed the 1000VPS a week twice, just to put in perspective my dailies.

Anyhow, I'm playing Halo and Civ V these days, so it's probably better I don't like the current state XD

This is the reason why I have gotten the Loremaster achievement for Valley of the Four Winds, but once.

Those packs of virmen and sprites constantly chattering, squealing, etc drive me insane. I hate having to mute the volume on my TV (which mutes other sounds that I want to hear, such as ability procs) just to keep my sanity.

I still want to know what the devs were smoking when they decided to have Sprites and Virmen make such loud racket every time they get hit/melee/etc.

Now, every time I level an alt, it is Jade Forest till 87, then straight to Kun-Lai, Townlong and then any Dread Wastes if I'm still not 90 yet. Sometimes I might throw in Krasarang instead of doing all of Jade Forest.
