Dungeons to solo as a 60 Paladin?Follow

Define worth it?

Things to get:
-Achievements
-Rare flavor items
-Transmog gear
-Lore, to an extent
-Potentially some gold by selling off loot on the AH
-Reputation if you're wearing a faction tabard

Things you won't get:
-Experience (or very little)
-A good feel for fight mechanics... not like there is much to know at low level fights, but still
-Useful gear. You might find a piece or two that has some extremely limited use, but nothing stat-wise


I've soloed every sub-80 dungeon and heroic in the game, mostly for achievements and reputation, and sometimes for rare drops and mounts. It's not a bad change of pace, but it's not "worth it" for most players who value their time in gold/hour, exp/hour, or getting better gear.

Edit: As for the second part, either spec will work for dungeons below level 45 or so (probably any below 50). If you're only level 60, you'd likely want Prot spec for better survivability in dungeons that are around level 50-60. A better idea would be to just group up for the LFG tool for those dungeons.

Thank you both for the advice. I was wondering, is there anything in RFC that can be sold on the AH, like blues? Maybe I am just not looking right but sometimes I see things on the AH that were bind on pickup for me.

Most bosses will drop blues, but almost every boss drop is BoP and thus cannot be sold on the AH. Killing everything in a dungeon can nab you a bunch of green (and rarely, blue) items, as well as cloth and vendor trash. That's where you would make money.

Oh, and if you have Enchanting as a profession you can disenchant the boss drops and sell the shards that you get.

But realistically speaking, you'll make more by questing or running dungeons at 60 than you would by running level 15 instances for drops.

I really like soloing content. On my first character (back in 2005 or early 2006) I soloed the Deadmines at level 30. It took me almost 2 and a half hours, primarily because I had terrible gear, no idea how to spec, and wasn't that great at the game yet. But I had a blast, and it was a TON of fun. As said, since then I've soloed a ton. The achievements are the primary reason, but I also soloed Stratholme dozens of times to get Deathcharger's Reins (back when they were a 1/10,000 drop rate). I ended up making several thousand gold off of rare drops, Runecloth, and the shards I disenchanted from boss items. This was in TBC however, when such items were in more demand.

Nowadays I primarily solo raids like MC, AQ40, Karazhan, BT, and trash in ICC for mounts and reputation. You can still make a pretty penny off those raids; Sulfuon Ingots and Blood of the Mountain sell for a few hundred gold each on my server, making MC a quick, painless, and somewhat profitable venture at 90. But again, at 60 you'll be a bit limited in terms of profit and what you can survive.

Best advice: try it out, see how it goes! I constantly try to push myself by soloing things; it's my primary reason to get better gear!

Personally my advice would be to level up. If you have any desire to run old content the higher lvl you are the easier/faster it will become.

RFK would make a lot better sense in context.

I also enjoy soloing old content. I would go as Prot. You should be able to go a fair way up the list. Maybe RFD or even SK. Especially as a 60 nowadays can be tricked out in much better gear from the first quests in BC than a vanilla paladin at 60.

Eventually it will become painful at which point you either need better techniques or better gear or a few more levels

Level 60 PvP gear... High Warlord? That stuff?

You'll likely replace most of it within a couple of levels. That stuff was from when the PvP system was first released. It's item level is pretty low, but it probably will hold up until you start getting to Zangarmarsh quests. As a comparison, tthis is the level 60 PvP epic two-handed mace, and this axe is from one of the first HFP quests. The stats are similar, though DPS is quite different. I think the main difference you'll start noticing is that Outland armor gets a LOT more stamina on it.

As to whether or not you NEED it? No... but better gear makes soloing easier.

When it comes to Protection soloing, I really can't help. Most of my advice would come from soloing at 85-90, and I don't really know what abilities a Paladin is lacking between 60 and 90. If you know how to tank, just act like a tank, and heal yourself however you best can. Word of Glory? Is that the self-heal? Not sure if you have it yet.

Best advice is to take it slow and not bite off more than you can handle. Or, as said, just level even more. Once you vastly out-level and out-gear old instances, your strategy is pretty much "KILL ALL THE THINGS!" Then the trick becomes finding the fastest way to do so
