I'm liking them, even though I haven't done a whole lot with them (I have a couple level 7s, and a couple level 5s).

The main thing I wanted to ask is...

What's your favorite pet so far? Did you have it prior to the pet battle system coming out, or did you catch it in the wild?

My personal favorite is my Clockwork Gnome that I got through Archaeology; I named him Jarvis (because Iron Man is the ****, okay?) and the turret ability that he has is pretty badass, though I don't know if it will scale with his level.

I am a fan of the spiders. Root the enemy pet and then leech health. As long as you aren't going up against a beast enemy you are bloody hard to kill. Also Legs has a really neat attack where you can do a really strong nuke. Nice to use if you just want to end a fight quickly.

I've just broken off from 'wasting' a couple of hours levelling an all-mechanical team, having just discovered the appeal of pet battles. My clockwork gnome is also the lynchpin of my team, with a pet bombling and a lil' smoky. I'm also training up a christmas team of the male and female helpers and a tiny snowman, all of which throw snowballs. I like that you don't know who you're playing, and that it doesn't really matter at all whether you win or lose.

I had, it turns out, 152 pets - just vendor, quest/achievement rewards, christmas presents and constructs (my main is an engineer). I haven't really tried wild trapping yet, I suspect my enthusiasm will wane relatively quickly.

I found Legs to be too weak, tbh. He's an uncommon-quality pet, and I have the ability to use rares in every category. It's possible that his abilities make him worth pursuing, though.

I'll have to give my spider more of a chance; I caught a rare a few days ago.

That is true, he is uncommon so I have doubts about his strength later on. I will level him up and find out though. OCD won't let me not level my pets up. Smiley: tongue

Pebble is a lot of fun, but less effective than I thought he would be. Specialist against mechanials, which aren't thick on the ground, so most of the time he's just a big damage sponge, which can be effective, but even if he wins he requires healing. He rotates in and out of the team, sharing a spot with the Magic Lamp (my anti-chicken specialist - seriously, until I leveled the Lamp, chickens were the only thing I feared).

I'm disappointed but not surprised that the Winterspring Cub is just uncommon - so I have to use the Panther Cub as my verminator.

I had to stop doing pet battles or I never would have levelled my character. I got a few pets into the level 7 range and wanted to continue fighting the trainers, but i would have needed to level my pets more before each trainer, and that would have just eaten up all my time. The most amazing thing, to me, is that I absolutely hate Pokemon. The game can't keep my attention for more than 10 or 15 minutes.

So far my favorite pet is my mini-corehound. I also have a pet, can't remember which one, that does a move that causes his next attack to do double damage. One of his other abilities is an extremely hard-hitting move. Pairing those 2 up is almost always a 2-round kill. Haven't looked at my battle pet pane recently, so can't remember which one it is.

I have a feeling that having varied teams is eventually going to be the way to go, just so you have options depending on what you are fighting. Once I am level 90 I will go back and do more pet battles. I want to trap every pet possible.

That was my plan too. But now my guild has asked me to step in for the first raidweek because we don't have enough 90s otherwise. So I spent most of the time doing dailies and HCs and such. Which isn't that bad per se. I wouldn't do it if I wouldn't want to. But there is just no time for pet battles left. :(
Maybe in a week or two.

I'm really liking the Phoenix Hatchling, has a damage shield, a nuke and a heal. I'm still working on my first team, so I have the Phoenix, Tiny Shale Spider and just for kicks, a Fawn that I captured! The fawn is just for fun, it's pretty much a decent healer with a smaller attack, the spider has some pretty strong attacks but no root unfortunately. He also has an attack that does damage to both the enemy and himself! I'm liking the pet battles so far, but I stopped with my team around level 6 because I realized I could sink way too much time into it and never actually level any of my characters!

The Widow hatchling has those nuke and heal benefits which make it a very nice addition to the team but I enjoy L'il Deathwing's ability to launch nukes that land 2 rounds later. That said the poor thing is a bit of a damage sponge.

I have been levelling my Wolpertinger which is fairly pathetic but the concept of fighting with a flying horned rabbit just tickles me.

My A-Team, all level 12, are Panther Cub, Widow hatchling, and L'il Deathwing.

My current dream team is the Onyxian Whelpling, Clockwork Gnome, and a random third (which will eventually be a Shadeling, I think, as I hear they're good... but currently is a black sheep that I hardly ever touch).

Tip for those who want pet level achievements, or to fight trainers ASAP; the easiest way to get the level achievements is to capture a pet just under the level for the achievement, then level it once. You can then take that pet, capture one that's a level higher, use that one to catch another one that's a level higher, etc... works until level 15 easily, and then you need to capture one two levels higher for the 20 achievement, and then it's a bit grindier or more difficult for the last one.

Plan on doing just this tonight Smiley: grin

My favorites atm are:
Lost of Lordaeron - really nice dmg with super crits, Siphon Life which heals itself for 5 rounds with 100% of the damage done
Nuts the squirrel - also nice dmg, plus another attack with speed increase, and Nut Barrage which damages over time with falling nuts (cracks me up)
Panther Cub - has Claw and Rake, plus Devour for the heals

All are rares, so I think I'll be using them for the long haul.
Have a few other sets, but leveling them is on the back burner.

I'm still leading with Jerome the Clockwork Gnome - getting two towers up, healing when possible, withdrawing after ressurection, he usually subdues the opposition sufficiently to let the curious wolver pup and creepy crate finish them off. I especially enjoy the crate's ability to force the lowest health opponent into battle.

That said, because Jerome was 16 and the other two only 10, to go up against wild tamers I took to capturing pets in their areas to get the levels I needed. Jerome is currently teamed with a rare scorpid and an uncommon water snake, who are holding their own.

I've a handful of comedy teams at lower levels, for variety. The tiny snowman, tiny harvester and tiny spore bat fight as Wilson, Kepple & Betty, respectively (ask your grandad). The rare fawn and rare rabbit team with the achievement skunk as Bambi, Thumper and Flower (they're a surprisingly effective team - the skunk lowers the opposition hit chance, the rabbit packs a punch and Bambi has good survivability. I'm still looking for a rare skunk). Wynken, Blynken and Nod are, naturally, Willy the orphan reward, the pink elephant from brewfest and the the perky pug achievement reward. None of them are disasterous teams, though they weren't chosen for their abilities or compability.

My Lil' Tarecgosa is a lot of fun. She's got a great finisher which is pretty much Hyper Beam. Blast them with the force of a tactical nuke, then have to recharge for a while.

Similar to my team so far. Onyxian Whelpling, Clockwork Rocket Bot and Jade Crane Chick. They're working pretty well. I do love the cases of pets (like the Jade Crane) being able to do damage to the opponent's pets that aren't even currently fighting. I'll try out a few more creature types - like perhaps a crab. The Core Hound Pup was good at low levels too.

Really, I'm an inch away from declaring this game to be newly renamed World of Pet Battles cause it's that much fun.

Ahaha... There is just so much to do now in WoW.

We just rejoined with all new characters, and stuck in the level 30 range because all we have time for in a day are the cooking/fishing dailies and Darkmoon Fair. All the rest of our time is spent Pokémonpet battling.

Still capturing pets around trainers to get the levels to defeat them. I shall be out of Outland soon enough, meanwhile I'm trying for a rare Tainted Cockroach from SMV, with the fabulous level 20 ability 'Apocalypse'. Calls down a meteor in 15 rounds that instantly destroys any active pets. Unless they're cockroaches.

Generally, use Dragons to beat Magic pets, Humans to beat Dragons, and Aquatic pets to beat Elementals.

I love my Clockwork Gnome too. So happy I grabbed all the Arch pets before Pandaria came out. My original plan was to use an all Arch team, but my Clockwork Gnome was the only one I really felt like I could keep around. Currently my team is around 15, and is my Clockwork Gnome, a rare Huge Toad, and a rare Lava Beetle. Toad's Frog Kiss ability can be so trolly, especially if I start chaining the stuns one after another. Clockwork has the great Turrets, and in general it's cool to have a pet that has a unique ability. Lastly my Lava Beetle is so cute and unsuspecting until I nuke the field with Scorched Earth, dealing a huge burst. I can go into my Frog after and set up Cleansing Rain to get rid of the self damage if I want to, which is really nice.

I kind of want to make a team based off of the Clockwork Gnome and Call Lightning, but that will take some time since I need to be 23-25 to catch a Serpent that has Call Lightning.

I am getting to love my Pterrodax Hatchling even more. I have it set up to where it has the 1-3 wind blade attack, the ancient's blessing, and the Lift-Off abilities selected.

I was doing some pet battles in Jade Forest earlier, and I did a good 10-15 battles, and he solo'd them all (didn't use either of my other 2 pets a single time), including the captures without having to use a single bandage or my pet heal ability. He almost died once (coming down to 100HP left) because of a picky snail that kept hitting me with his ooze attack (which he's weak against), but otherwise nothing else could touch him.

After a bit more playing I have more of a "feel" for pet types. Still only have three 25s (well, one is 24...)... dragonkin, beast, and critter (Onyxia Whelpling, Adder, Rat). But I have a few up-and-comings. I feel like mechanicals are pretty overpowered... well, at least extremely strong. They effectively have a +1 turn and 20% boost, which is awesome until you hit an elemental team. My Clockwork Gnome is 17 currently, but I want him to hit 25 because he's a powerhouse. His normal attack rivals the strength of my dragonkin pets (which I consider slow, heavy-hitting, high HP pets), but he has better speed and the species bonuses. I also am leveling my Celestial Dragon, which has the awesome Ancient Blessing ability, as well as a weather-effect attack that increases healing. I think once they hit 25 my rat and adder will be retired.

Unfortunately, without tamer battles leveling seems to take foreverrrrr. And I already did almost all the tamer dailies today, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to level better Smiley: tongue

Managed to hit 22 on my Clockwork Gnome, but I found a new favorite mechanical: the fireflux feline. It's the ideal glass cannon... I've never seen a pet that can hit so hard in a single hit. The trade-off is that it takes three turns to do so: Wind-up (10% damage boost) + Prowl (150% damage, -30% speed) + Wind-up (very strong ability) meant that below level 10 I was hitting for around 700 damage. At level 17, I would hit for around 1100. And you can repeat the process as often as you want, since none of the abilities have a cooldown (you can pick Supercharge over Prowl if you want to avoid the speed penalty, but that also gives a 3 round cooldown). Of course, this comes with a few trade-offs... Ideally you want a high-attack pet, but that nerfs your hp and speed. The fireflux feline also has no defensive abilities, which means you'll likely only get to use this combo twice before it bites it (including the mechanical death + resurrect). And of course it can be stopped with a number of abilities: fly/dive/burrow, for example... or cocoon... or evasion... pretty much any buff that allows a pet to avoid a single turn.

Then there's the issue of actually getting the pet, which took me a couple of hours. And the one I got, although green quality, isn't an attack-type... but still hits like a truck. I could solo a level 24 at level 17. Granted, I would die in the next round, but still... awesomesauce.

Edit: It's even more ridiculous if you fight a beast and crit. I think I hit around 1800 as my highest hit so far... and that was in the teens for pet level. Just dinged 20 on it.
