Mists of Pandaria: The Death of the AltaholicFollow

As many of you know, I decided to come back to WoW after an extended break to partake in the newest expansion. After 2.5 weeks back, I haven't regretted that decision for a single second. One thing I've noticed, however, is that my playstyle has completely change.

During the time I played Cataclysm, launch until February of this year, I was a severe altaholic. I levelled 2 new characters from 1 to 85 (priest and rogue) and 4 other characters from 80 to 85 (death knight, rogue, warrior, and paladin). I also have another 81 death knight and a 70 shaman. My 85 death knight was the closest thing I had to a main, but her raiding experience was limited to the first half of Dragon Soul via LFR. I mainly levelled alts, worked on professions, and did dailies.

Flash forward to today. I re-rolled to a new server to play with Noc and Theo. I started working on yet another death knight and we are planning on doing some 3v3 arena, another aspect of the game I haven't really experienced. We've all also expressed interest in seeing all of the PVE content, which is something I haven't done for any expansion to date. Last night I started doing some of the battle pet quests and immediately got hooked. I was reading the Wowhead preview of moP and saw all of the different factions to grind rep with. I also decided I'm finally going to knock out the Loremaster achievment on one character AND start doing some achievement hunting.

With all of that on my plate for the foreseeable future, when will there be time for alts? I am still intent on having a maxed character of every class on the same faction of one server, but it may be yet another expansion before I can achieve that goal. Even with a level 25 guild and full BoAs, levelling 10 alts from 1-90 will take a long time. And that's time I just may not have.

Well, more power to you. The fact that you have MORE stuff to do means you have more to get from the game I'd say.

I went from 7 max level characters in Wotlk to just 5 at the end of Cata due to me skipping most of it. I'm presently having way too much fun so as not to level more alts though, we'll see.

That's just it. I love the way characters are set up now with the auto-learniing abilities and the new talent setup. I would love to level a character of every class on my new Alliance server as well as at least one of my old Horde 85s to get to see the MoP Horde quests. I just don't think i'm going to have time betweem grinding BGs, doing arena, doing heroics, doing LFR raids, seeking out and levelling battle pets, levelling professions (archaeology, fishing and cooking are both 0 on my DK), grinding faction reputation, and doing farming and all the other seemingly fun stuff Blizzard has crammed into this expansion.

And that's before I go backwards and try to complete Alliance loremaster and a bunch of other achievements.

Thankfully, once we start doing arena, gear kind of takes care of itself after the initial grind. There will be some grinding to get gear quicker, but mostly it'll just be from arena.

I do agree, my hunter is likely never going to make it to 90 just because of the fact that I don't have a whole lot of time to play.

Yeah, I guess eventually there's gonna be a point where we have the best arena gear we can have for that season and I've done the raids I wanna do, whether in LFR or with my guild. I just think that point is going to be a long way off, especially for the first season and tier of raids.

The first season is actually one of the most fun because if you do it right, you'll be better geared than most people, and a lot of people won't have figured out what they're doing in arena.

That and there are a lot of baddies in the lower brackets.

Yeah but it's also the longest grind as you grind BGs and arena. In future seasons you just grind arenas to get the next tier of gear.

I don't know, I actually kind of prefer it. I like BGs much more than arena because even when I'm just messing around I can still be one of the best players in the BG, if not the best.

Sometimes I don't like going back and thinking, "man, I timed that Blind half a second too late," or *********** I didn't get a Sap off of my Blind," which I definitely do after almost every arena match. I can let it go, but I'm definitely don't care when I'm in a BG versus an arena match.

That's true. If you lose a BG you can always say "Well I played good. It was those other 9/14/39 mongoloids who cost us the match." But in arena, when it's just you and, usually, people you know, it's a lot harder to do that.

We'll be ok, though. We can always just blame Noc. ^.^

With Rep AND Valor needed to buy gear off of vendors, and how Spirits of Harmony are BoP and fairly rare (~75% of the way through Jade Forest and I only have 9 motes), and with the sheer amount of stuff they stuck in the game for one character to do...

It doesn't seem like Blizz wants you to have lots of different characters. You'll most likely have to pick a "main" and do all that stuff and... don't on the others. Or at least that's what this is looking like to me.

Kinda sucks that I'll probably never be able to actually craft anything good due to the SoH requirements on most of the decent stuff...

I got tons of Mote of Harmony on beta. Sadly, not the case now. :( I just hit 86 (halfway done Jade Forest quests I think) and I also only have 9 motes. I got one of the Alchemy quest drops on my second kill in Pandaria and haven't been able to turn it in because it needs 3 Golden Lotus which I planned to buy with a Spirit, but I can't get that last mote! lol I need a few to level engineering too.

Supposedly it is supposed to be 10% + 1% per level drop, to max out at 15% at 90, but...errrrr.....

There is no farking way it is a 10% drop. No. stinking. way.

I killed way, way, way, more than 90 mobs.

Yes, yes, "Gambler's Fallacy" and all, but statistically, 10% should be roughly 10 in every 100. This isn't anything close to 10%; I've probably killed at least 500 mobs. At least. Maybe double that?

I dunno, Statistics doesn't track kills by continent.

I'm half way 89 to 90 and have 60 motes of harmony. I've quested and mined all the way except 10/12 instance runs in over level 88.
