So recently on this boards there seems to be quite a few people who've come back, are thinking about it, in time for MoP. Funny that, as an expansion it probably has been met initially at least, with the least level of excitement from the people I know, or even on some forums. But as time has drawn near to the release, more and more people seem to be taking the return flight, just as I did. So I thought perhaps I'd throw my own coming back motives and see if other people agree/disagree with them and what theirs are, this being the internetsssss and all that.

For me, Cata was a mess, a horrible mess. There was little I liked at the beginning, and much I didn't like. Instances were excessively long, some incredibly un-inspired (SFK, DM go die) and weekly patches didn't win any friends for me either. It didn't affect my main much, a pala tank, but my healers hated it and I suffered for that horribly, complains, emo, ragequits ... the lot. Ok, I wasn't by far in a top-tier guild, but I had raided with some of that people in the past and things just didn't work out. Portals or not, travel times in Cata have been a pain, a reason perhaps for the many tabards, or items that have popped out/were developed during the expansion. Finally, people suck at CC, and you just can't do anything about that I guess with the current system. In TBC or Wotlk, you'd better be good at what you did, or you'd never make it to friends lists -> Less dungeon runs.

MoP comes out and it looks like some of those concerns have been taken care of. And then some. The new talent system is pure win IMO, no more crappy talents which no-one choses anyway, mostly interesting choices all-round. Challenge modes look incredibly fun and rewarding, giving players of almost all gear levels (but not skill, oh no) the chance to get into some PvE competition. Other features for instance are Pokemon, I’m not sold on Pokemon but some people will like that I guess, the need to walk not fly in Pandaria until level 90 (yeah, I think it’s a solid idea), and changing archeology around a bit seems like a good idea too, less whining = good.

That’s my list, What’s yours then? Why are you coming back, like we all do?

I'm coming back to be a panda. They are awesome. I want to be awesome.
Oh and because FFXI/SE decided to not want me to play anymore, so I also coming back because I can't play that game.

You didn't need CC in WotLK. It was the era of AOE spam and healers playing whack-a-mole on the Grid frames.

And people have sucked at CC since as far back as I can remember. The problem with CC in Cataclysm was that it was preceded by an expansion that relied entirely on AOE faceroll spam to win. Like with zeppelins and boats, people didn't want to go back to having to spend more time farming dungeons. As someone who runs maybe 10 dungeons a day, I tend to agree, especially since retards are so abundant now that I'd rather not put the fate of my group in the hands of one. Plus, until they fix Tab-select to not pick up random targets way out of range, or targets that have been CC'd, I'd rather not try to deal with Trapped, Sapped and Polymorphed targets while maintaining aggro on the remaining half dozen enemies that are each being focused down by a different damage dealer.

I think it's a stupid idea, but opinions are opinions. Considering the aforementioned desire from the player base to not spend time doing uninteresting stuff (such as traveling or setting up CC in a dungeon for the 100th time), however, it makes absolutely no sense that we have to run/ride around on the island. I get that they want us to see all the crap they spent ages modeling (instead of releasing more content on the live servers), but come on now. We've had flying mounts since the first expansion. We're used to experiencing things in three dimensions now, and being unable to fly is just going to make traveling even more tedious (since auto-run has a tendency to fail hard on land).

Edit: And I don't have a list, which is why I'm not coming back. I gave the talent revamp a chance and it was sort of meh. I love it on my Warlock, hate it on my Druid, and feel pretty indifferent on pretty much every other character. It's not enough for me to fork over more cash for another half-assed expansion, though. Not interested in the new race and only mildly interested in the new class. Not interested, at all, in the Farmville and Pokémon references. I'm not Asiaphile enough to drool over the bamboo and rice paper landscape either.

Pandaren were a fun easter egg, but building an entire expansion on it is a mistake, in my opinion. It feels like they've run out of ideas, not that you can blame them. In eight years we've pretty much killed everything related to the original lore. Now it's time to **** around until they push Titan into beta. I get the easter egg expansion idea, but I don't feel that it gives me enough to warrant the price tag.

Blizzard should put in some kind of training dungeon. Or perhaps entry level raid. It should have each fight be about learning a new concept, from CC to quickly burning adds to dispelling/timing to kiting to prioritizing when to target switch to interrupts and so on. With each boss becoming a bit more complex but constantly building on your skillset as you go along.

Nah, it'd never happen. Smiley: tongue

I'd be all for that stuff in raids and whatnot, but putting requirements in 5-man dungeons would be incredibly annoying. Can't tell how many times I've wiped on the dragonkin dude in Grim Batol who likes to charge a random person and send them flying to their death. By "random person" I mean "the healer, who is also blind."

I don't think it is that people are overly excited about the content of this expansion but that they just hated Cata and are going to be glad to see it gone. Plus an expansion just about always brings a bunch of people back to a game no matter how good or bad people might think it is going to be.

I haven't played for about a year and I came back to give it a try. I think the idea of making an expansion based on Panda's is pretty lame. They can say what they want but with the opening movie with MOP, the animation of the Panda's, etc it looks like Kung- Foo Panda and looks very geared towards kids. When I look back at Illidan, Lich King, and even Death Wing I see a mighty foe. Illidan and Lich King have a really interesting back story on them how they became what they are etc. Story alone was almost enough to make players want to reach these bosses and defeat them.

Still I plan to lvl to 90 see how the content is. IF it sucks can always cancel again.

I came back, although technically I never really left. My sub never ran out, I just wasn't playing the game. Ok fine, I uninstalled 6 months ago and didn't think I'd ever play again. You got me. Well, what happened was I got a little bored with the game i had switched to (Star Wars) and a few people whose opinions I trust on this board seemed genuinely excited about MoP. I reinstalled, rerolled to a new server, and realized I had actually missed the game. Now I'm levelling a new DK (will be my 3rd 85 DK) and thoroughly enjoying myself.

Gonna upgrade to the MoP Digital Deluxe Edition on payday this week. I'm just hoping I can get close to 85 before next Tuesday.

This. I also quit and played Rift for 9 months last year. But it's just like WoW.
And, my brother was still playing and his gf was starting up, he needed me to help with showing her the ropes. Smiley: rolleyes
But I never got back into raiding, just filled in a few times when needed and mostly hated it.

Now comes Pokem...er, Pandaria. I'm interested in checking out the pet battles and the farms, the scenarios and the JC mount.
My girl thinks I should start pretending to be a grown up and avoid mmo's for a while. Not that I should quit gaming, just stick to stuff like Skyrim. She thinks WoW is filled with 10 yr olds, based on some of the chat she's read.
If all goes well, I'll stay. If not...the new and finally improved version of FFXIV is getting it's re-release in Nov. There's also home...which is FFXI for me, it's still going strong and just got a version update. Maybe I'll try a new server and start over there.

I think all this was my way of saying I don't know wtf I'm doing.

I plan on letting other people level to 90. If they give MoP good marks I'll re-sub and give it a try, if not I'm happy to part ways for a while.

I haven't left WoW, but I'm now really conflicted about continuing in MoP. I have been playing since late vanilla and this is the first time that an expansion just doesn't have much pull for me. Since the last patch, I've logged on once, maybe twice. I think the biggest stumbling block is the talent makeover. I don't really want to relearn all the mechanics yet again. And, from what I've been reading, bears are screwed up.

Maybe I'm just finally reaching my burn-out point with WoW...I don't know. But, it just seems like Blizz keeps changing things over and over, sometimes just for the sake of change. Some of the changes that irritate me are minor (like getting rid of Have Group Will Travel), but nonetheless, they do irk me.

I don't know, I'm torn. I love the game. I've been playing it a long time. I'm just not sure about MoP.
