No threads about this yet?

Odd.

Ran it twice just a bit ago with a Spriest, hoping to get the staff (she's got Ahune's scythe, bleck).

No staff or helm, but it was fun.

One thing that I noticed right off is the amount of freaking cloth the mobs drop. I expect this to be hotfixed, lol. They drop cloth comparable to what you'd find in a 5-man dungeon, so each run of the scenario, I'd walk away with 80+ embersilk. I've already made three embersilk bags out of two runs, and it was awesome.

As for the scenario itself, I only did the Alliance version and I found it enjoyable. Hardcores and Raiders will say it is way too easy, but then they need to understand that it is geared for people wearing 353 gear, and it is tuned for 3x DPS. Bringing a tank or a healer in there (or a prot paladin who can do both) is going to make it a lot easier, especially if one of the DPS also works half-decent as an off-healer (I threw a few heals myself), and in the second run, we had a Holy paladin and an Arms Warrior who easily took care of just about everything in there.

It reminds me of a mini-dungeon crossed with a mini-battleground (there's bosses and objectives, like 'blow the ships, collect the banners, destroy the siege engine'), only you fight mobs instead of players. Non-elite mobs have about 2x the health as a normal solo mob, while elites have about 450k IIRC. Bosses have ~1.5M, 'cept the last one has nearly 3M. As long as you avoid the mechanics (you need to pay at least some attention), you should be fine, their auto-attacks don't hit that hard. Their mechanics, though, can shave 20-30k off of your health each time you get nailed by it, so if you've got 3 DPS classes that has very little healing, you might want to make sure you avoid the bad stuff.

And at the end, just like holiday dungeons, you get a goodie bag and 140 JP. Takes about 15-20min if you know what you're doing. Faster if you've got geared players, obviously. The said goodie bag has a chance of giving you a 384 helm or weapon tuned to your class (but not necessarily your spec; the holy paladin got a tank helm and an elemental shaman got an agility axe).

I found it rather enjoyable for what it is, a temporary level 85 scenario. Ran it once on my hunter with an arms warrior and a rogue. blew through it like it was butter. Watched some tv than ran it again. This time I got two healers. It took a bit longer obviously but still was enjoyable. Hopped on my prot paladin and tanked it rather nicely, expecially considering I haven't touched that paladin since the changes so it was rather fun.

Overall it was very enjoyable and makes me excited for scenario's at 90. Something that I can do if I just want something short and real simple. I don't expect nor want a massive challenge in them. I feel as though it would just make it more difficult than it needs to be and besides, if I want challenge I would do challenge modes.

On a side note it is rather sad to read all the static Blizzard is getting over them in various forums because people are expecting pre-launch events like there was for the past two expansions (not including BC in there since the main attraction with that was a world boss that was in the ganking mood).

Out of curiosity, is it runnable with folks cross server?

Should be, looks like the scenario queue system works just like the LFD one, except it isn't looking for specific roles. You can Q up as a group, don't see why you couldn't do so as a RealID/BNET tag group.

Don't forget about the I-level 353 requirement, though. Everyone in the group needs to have 353+ or it won't let you Q.

I hate that too.

I prefer something like this than a huge LAGFEST like the Elemental Attacks on the cities, or Gnomeregan/Zalazane.

Open World Events = LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG.

Not to mention, near the end of the event, not very many people are doing it (like Zalazane/Gnomeregan) and it takes for freaking ever because they tuned it for 50-100 players and there's only like 20 there.

Yeah, we're good. I have the lowest gear of the three of us, at 362. Heck, one of the others is sitting at 394.

I thought it was fun. I went in on a ilvl 402 Ret Paladin with a mage and holy paladin. The holy pally dc'd zoning in and showed up after we blew up the first boat. It was nice having a healer so I didn't have to watch my health bar, but if I was careful I could have easily kept myself up. I like the tabard, it'll look good with my Lawbringer transmog set. I really want one of the plate helms (black preferably) for transmogging, but not sure how many times I can run this without getting bored.

So is this an instance based on a typical 5 man set up or is it a scenario that can be done by 3, 4, or 5 people?

It's a 3 person scenario and doesn't have a role requirement (1 tank, 1 healer, etc). You could theoretically get 3 healers in a group I believe.

It'd probably be fairly rare that you get stuck in a group of 3 healers, none of which can change specs into a non-healing spec.

Priests can always go Shadow or Disc to do damage (even while wearing healer gear), Resto Shamans can easily do Elemental in Healing Gear and still do decent damage, Druids can always go boomkin with healer gear, Holy Paladin DPS isn't that bad even after the infamous nerf.

Not everyone can/is willing to switch specs, but getting 3 such people in one group would surely take a stroke of (un)luck.

But yes, it is theoretically possible.

I'll admit, this scenario made me think about re-subscribing to check it out... for about 15 seconds. It sounds pretty awesome, but I'm not paying $15 to try it out when I know I have no desire to play the game otherwise. =/

The scenario idea is interesting but it fails, at least for me, to capture any of that pre-xpac excitement and/or build up like previous versions. If I didn't check in here everyday, I would have never known anything was even going on. There is no pre-quest or hint (in game) that anything is afoot.
The scenario itself is fun, but it's ran through so fast you don't even have time to wonder why or how you got there, or why you are even there in the first place.
But I did scoop the rifle on my second go for my hunter :)

Aye, that is probably my biggest complaint about it. There really isn't much story line outside the scenario concerning what is happening. Which is sad really. But I am not going to worry about it honestly. I am more concerned with Blizzard doing the gameplay in MoP good and hoping they learn from the mistakes they made in Cata.

I think the biggest problem with the scenario is nothing to do with itself, but with timing and expectations. Release it the week before an expansion and tie it in to the pre-Mists lore, and people are expecting something big, a launch event, another scourge invasion or the like. Release it a month ago and call it a teaser, a preview of the new technology that will be a big part of the non-raiding endgame - if they'd done that, I think people would have been a lot better disposed.

We ran it once or twice... Frankly it had the same level of interest for me as the Heads-man Instance... There was really no challenge. There was really no reward.

Was it interesting - yeah, but .... meh
