I try to avoid Reddit, tonight there is an AMA.

In my heart of hearts I hope someone grills them on healing in the 1st three to six months of Cataclysm.

Anyone got a link for those of us who don't traverse Reddit on a daily basis?

I'm assuming the AMA is about/with Blizzard? Last Reddit AMA I read was about/with Stan Lee.

Thanks! Interesting stuff there.

Seems like they're having some issue with low-pop servers and it seems like they don't want to do anything useful (merge) about it, either, because it'll scare the shareholders. That's kind of worrisome.

Still sad to see that they won't get rid of "tagging", though. They don't want people to join a raid group and get free XP, but I think they're limiting themselves here by not even discussing it. There are so many ways to do it other than "tag" and "no tag". Why not create a system like in DCUO where everyone participating in a kill gets rewarded for it?

Scenario:
I'm killing NPCs when someone jumps in and starts killing the same NPCs.

In WoW: It now becomes a competition because his kills do not count towards my goal, but reduce the amount of available NPCs in the area by 50%. Whoever attacks an NPC first gets the kill, the loot and the quest items.

In DCUO: It now becomes cooperation because his kills also count toward my goal, as long as I participate in the killing, and vice versa. You cannot tag an NPC, but you only get XP and loot from the kill if you participate in the kill.

Why not apply this to WoW as well? If you help kill a thing, either by dealing damage to it, or by healing someone who is dealing damage to it, you should be rewarded for it. They could apply this to group/raid scenarios as well. Sure, some ****** is going to get himself killed before being able to participate in the fight and will lose out on the loot, but life sucks and all. Don't get yourself killed before you hit a button. Personally, I wouldn't want some jackass who died 0 seconds into the fight, or went AFK for the fight, to be able to roll on stuff he didn't help get.

Heh.

I notice how they dodged the question about how CRZ affects low-pop server economies. "We never said it would FIX it". So apparently, it is OK to destroy low-pop servers' economies all in the name of "seeing people in the world".

People you can never buy things off of, and people you can never invite to your guilds.

Yeeah.

CRZ has a lot of legitimate questions and issues. There is actually a consolidation thread of issues on the forums that is pretty fricking long. At least they are listening to some of the feedback (IE Fishing Tourney's). It will be interesting to see where the game is at population wise at the end of Q1 2013, once the MoP bounce back has happened and time has passed. Will they finally end up merging servers?

A major topic lately, especially with Paragon switching over to 10 mans, is the slow death of 25 man raiding. They even mentioned that they wished in TBC that they had gone 10-20 instead of 10-25 (earlier this week not on the AMA). The simple fact is that wrangling 25 people online at the same time on a consistent basis is much like herding cats. They often say it is twice as difficult logistically than organizing a 10 man, however that really isn't the case. For each extra head it isn't a straight increase.

They are taking a lot of heat for the delay in content, and also the amount of content when it comes to raiding. Questions on Abyssal Maw being scrapped, length of DS & ICC, as well as questions about hiring developers.

Lots of lore questions, though anyone who calls Christie Golden a decent writer is a god damned bull sh'it artist. Her best work would barely pass as low end fantasy fiction aimed at teens. But its literature based on an MMO, so you can't expect much.

SWTOR broke its neck because BioWare failed to release new end-game content in, what, four months? How long have we had Dragon Soul now? They definitely need to push out more stuff`and faster. Having been out of the loop for six months, I jumped back on my Druid, entered a LFD Dragon Soul, completed both parts in less than an hour, queue time included, and was like "Well... guess that's that."

Bw has promised new content every 4-6 weeks, not always a raid but a 5 man, world event or Pvp. They are rushing out a new raid right now.

Blizzard is taking some heat over LFR due to ease and the fact that beginning of a tier it is mandatory. I am of the opinion that they keep it auto win and then increase normal difficulty back to TBC or Ulduar lvls.

I sincerely hope they'll manage to keep the game alive, but I think it's too late.

Seems like it, GW2 took another big hit & you know that MoP will be rough.

F2P is going to be make or break, it is crazy to see a Triple A game rise so high and crash so low within a year.

The thing about F2P games, is that people forget that video game developers don't like to work for charity.

They want paid for their efforts.

Not to mention, the servers that are built and hosted, require things like internet connections, and those can get expensive when trying to buy bandwidth good enough to run an MMORPG. And then there's hosting fees, you gotta put these bigass server machines somewhere.

This all boils down to a lot of money.

And I can't think of any single company on the face of the Earth that likes to blow money left-and-right and not make any in return.

So, this F2P game... it needs to make money somehow.

If you're not paying for a subscription, then what are you paying for? Micro-transactions to buy stuff? Then you get lots of players complaining that you have to open your wallet to be competitive, and/or you get the frugal people who will drag their teeth across the ground to grind up their equipment without paying a dime. Those people are effectively wasting resources by not contributing money.

Now, even F2P games usually ask you to plunk $50 down, but how far do you think that initial surge of money goes? It probably doesn't go far, surely.

Now, compare that type of game to a game like WoW -- you pay a monthly subscription fee, and WoW just happens to a behemoth of an MMORPG, with millions of subscribers. Even after losing all of those subs since its Peak during Wrath, the game still has a quite healthy playerbase and Blizzard has been running various programs to get people to return to the game or for new players try the game.

MoP was already developed and is due to hit Live Servers in just over a week -- I've heard many praises about how it is simply packed with more endgame content than any previous expansion to date, including the often-praised expansions like Burning Crusade and Wrath. Solo-friendly content? There's no less than 50 dailies you can do per day, and Pet Battles. Small-group/casual group? Scenarios and Heroics. Larger groups? LFR. Hardcores? Challenge Modes, which I've heard are actually fairly Hard. And then there's still the old-style 10/25man Normal/Heroic Raids.

I think MoP will do fine. It is certainly looking better than Cataclysm. Cataclysm's main selling point was "revamped 1-60 zones!"

Now, the 1-60 zones were in desperate need of a revamp, as the 1-60 content was the #1 thing on people's hated list of why they had trouble leveling new characters. But yet it made the endgame suffer. Thankfully, we're past that dark chapter in WoW history and things should definitely be looking up from here on.
