Hey guys, I'm a level 77 death Knight tank and I am taking so much damage!!! I just done a run of Gundrak and damage done on me was 404k.

Character Stats:
General
- Health: 25,548
- Item Level: 172

Attributes
- Strength: 850 (highlighted Green)
- Stamina: 1895 (highlighted Green)

Other than wearing tanking gear, being blood spec, and in blood presence .... it's using your abilities correctly.

DK's don't use shields, and they don't block. They'll get hit harder than warriors and pallies, but that's part of their tanking style.

DK tanking, especially surviving, uses Death Strike alot, which is the basis for Blood Spec mastery (Blood Shield). Extra self healing can be gained from Rune Tap. Bone Shield should be up as often as possible to help lessen dmg too.

Anything else takes getting used to and learning more/do better with.

Compare your damage taken to effective self healing to get an idea of what you've mitigated through the heals.

Having tanked on both a warrior and a DK, I can tell you that I always took a lot more damage on the DK, but when I was playing well, my healers really couldn't tell the difference. Then again, that could just be an indication of how much I sucked on the warrior.

Posting total damage done isn't a great stat to quote.

Did the Heals go OOM? Was the group slowed? Were you regularly in the red? Did you need to burn CDs on regular pulls? Were you taking big pulls where you turned you back on the mobs? Were the DPS strong or were they letting mobs hang around for a while - thus increasing tank damage. Was CC being used?

Best thing you can do is tell us what your character name and server name are so that we can look you up on Armory and tell you if you made any missteps in gearing your character up, or choosing talent points or glyphs.

Though, to be honest, as long as all of your gear has +Strength on it (pre-Endgame), it is likely that you're geared about as good as you ever need to be, unless you have horribly outdated armor (172 for Lv77 doesn't sound outdated, though).

But as long as you spam Death Strike, Bone Shield and pop Icebound Fortitude during bosses... you should be doing fine.

Just going off of iLevel and health it would either come down to you not using tanking gear or just not familiar with the rotation. Would need an armory link to verify it is not a gear issue.

You don't even really need "Tanking Gear" (good thing, because there isn't much) Pre-80. I did just fine with a Prot Paladin, and Prot Warrior both in normal quested DPS gear with maybe one or two pieces of crafted Tempered Saronite that's 76. Most of the set is 78 tho and he's only 77.

Easily possible if your healer doesn't suck.

Now if he's wearing agility, or mail or somecrap, then yeah that'd be an issue.

Hehe that is true but I tend to factor in that my other group members suck. Not sure what to think though since he hasn't gotten back to us on it. Oh well.

I'm working on a Resto Shamy right now. He's in full BOA + Instance stuff. Honestly most of the time I just stand there and pull adds. It actually feels a lot like my old job as the OT for raids on farm. My job was to constantly keep mobs on us. It kept the pacing fast - so we could clear wings faster...

Healing/Tanking at the lower lvls is stupid. Tanks are often doing 2-3x the damage of the DPS. Heals are often not needed. If pulls are conducted as intended (3-4 mobs in packs, or 1 "Big" mob) - I rarely have to use more than Totems + E.Shield.

I spend most of my time trying to out DPS classes that are horrible at lower lvls. (Spriests) Or looking for the next group/Pat/etc to pull over.
