A quick overview about farming and The Tillers. Although I'm not sure if I will really delve into this when MoP hits, it doesn't look too bad. Seems like something you can do when you feel like it and won't lose anything when your not in the right mood.

I like the part about how different seeds can "grow" different mats.

I'd foresee myself eventually getting the tillers rep up on at least 2-3 different characters to grow mats for my crafting characters, though I doubt that said seeds would provide enough exclusively without having to do the old fashioned type farming, but still, any help is welcome.

Interesting, but I wonder why it wasn't compared to LotRO's farming profession.

As if Poke-battles weren't bad enough, we now get Farm-town/ville whatever.

This was announced at the same time as noncom-cockfights. Why are you orz-ing now?

Please elaborate why pet battles and farming are bad.
If you don't like it, don't do it. It won't have any influence on you then. You can still do dungeons, scenarios, challenges, LFR, normal/heroic raids and all sorts of PvP.

More content is almost never a bad thing, but it seems like they're adding a lot of fluff for no apparent reason. There are a number of things I'd like to see implemented/improved instead of this Pokémon and Farmville content.

Not saying the content is bad, it's just not what I wanted to see. We could start with the 4-polygon human character models and work our way up to the lack of triage healing, the tank-healer-dps formula, which I find lacking compared to a lot of "modern" MMO games, and we'd end up somewhere around "why have we been running the same content for the last six months?" Are the developers so busy figuring out how to stuff more novelty content in the next expansion that they can't shake'n'bake some more content for the live game?

Whatever keeps people subscribed, I suppose. It'll take more than Pokémon and Farmville to drag me back, though.

That would indeed all be nice things to have changed. Only the tank-DPS-healer issue seems to me like something with which we are stuck with because even if they wanted to I doubt they could do something about that. It's just too deeply rooted into the core mechanics of the game.
I'm rather curious to see how long they will take to finally update character models. "When it's done it's done" I guess. Smiley: bah

For me at least the pet battles have some appeal. The farming stufff... I don't think it's really necessary for the game but it may help in keeping me occupied.

This whole farm thing isn't anything new. Let's call it like it is. It's Fireland dailies with plants instead of Burning Firelords. People aren't going to see your "farms." It's just a new string of dailies. To be honest, I think they are doing themselves a disservice. There are so many things they could do to improve the player experience and bring back players, but they are working on what I think will be a very narrow demographic that won't stick with them. Why pay 15 bucks a month for Farmville when you can play it for free on Facebook?

I'm not decrying MoP. I'm cautiously curious. I'm still subbed for another 8 months or so. But I don't plan on buying MoP until I hear it is actually different. Cataclysm was too much of a let down. Sure it had some great ideas, but most of it was a mess. I'm not crying the end of WoW, because I think it'll take more than one screwed up expansion to kill the world's most successful MMO. But I think if they don't start doing innovative ideas to rekindle their fanbase they are heading down a very bad road.

I caught the general farm idea before, and my impression atm of the "farming quest hub" is that it appears mundane. As new and creative Molten Front is, it grew tiresome and I'm being a "debbie downer" dreading the same from the farms.

However, I have to agree about the niche market appeal. And, yes, new/more content is not necessarily a bad thing.

So has anyone tried out the farming yet? How much stuff can you grow? You lots of herbs and and what not? Is it actually an alternative way to get mats or alchemy/inscription, or just filler content? Why do I have so many questions? Where's the beef? Etc.

Also, old game is old. Blizzard has done a pretty good job in my book actually updating the game as time has gone along, but it definitely is showing it's age in many ways.

New character models are a work-in-progress. We should see them "soon," whenever that happens to be.

They're still working on the triage model by having Int not grant excess MP. In theory, without ever-growing mana pools, the choice to use or not use an efficient heal will be "interesting". We'll see how well that works out.

Guild Wars 2 is the only modern MMO that I know of that doesn't use Tank-Healer-DPS or a very close relative thereof. RIFT and FFXI have/had "Support" as a 4th option, but that's it as far as I know.

I think 10 months of Deathwing (Nov 2011 to Sept 2012) is too much, but at least it's less time than was spent on ICC (almost 12 months). They seem to be spending a lot of time on balance this time around, so the wait for MoP will hopefully be worth the lack of a "shake'n'bake" mini-content patch between 4.3 and 5.0.

I've been farming for the last couple days on beta. You start off with a 4 plot farm (and a little introductory questline to introduce you to the basics). Once you hit Honored with the Tillers faction, your farm is upgraded to 8 plots. It's been speculated that the farm will eventually expand up to 16 plots, but I haven't got that far yet. You plant the seeds and they have a chance to either just be "growing _____" or they can have a random effect that you need to deal with before they will grow. They might get bugs, weeds, or have virmen in them, etc. All crops are ready to be picked the next day (after midnight server I believe but haven't personally confirmed). And I don't think they can die if you don't pick them. It's very similar to Harvest Moon in my opinion, but not nearly as time consuming, since only "parched" plants need to be watered. The storyline and method of gaining friendship with the NPCs reminds me of Harvest Moon too. And you actually do get seeds once you are Exalted with Tillers that will grow profession materials. I'm really interested in checking out what kind/amount of mats you can get.

So that's the basics from what I've seen so far, but El's Extreme Anglin' has a pretty detailed guide here.

Thanks for the info. I actually love harvest moon, and bringing something like this to WoW is not a bad thing at all. Can't wait to see it happening :)

New types of content is never bad... unless it is archaeology Smiley: glare.

Even if it appears that they are trying to incorporate certain Zynga elements. Whenever I got burnt out on raiding, I would start doing pvp, dailies or achievements to cleanse my palette. Kept me interested and playing. I haven't heard much feedback on farming, but Pet Battles are getting decent feed back by most reviewers, even those who thought they would dislike it.

That being said, Blizzard does need to speed up the rate it brings out new content. While there will be no one WoW killer, and the game is still uber successful, it seems like a lot of new developers are seeing the success Rift is having with its Herculean effort in releasing new content at a steady pace and are promising similar feats. If we see pack of small to medium MMO's releasing content every 6-8 weeks and Blizzard taking 6-8 months you can probably expect to see a slow bleed of players away from WoW, not all to one major MMO but to a bunch of minor mmo's. Especially if MoP is another Cata.

Yeah that is my only concern with MoP. Guess we will have to wait to see if Blizzard steps up their game or keeps with the massive time between updates.

This has been my concern as well. I like WoW a lot; I play WoW a lot, but I find myself running out of things I want to do.

I took a partial hiatus for a couple months, only showing up to raid nights (and skipped a few of those) out of sheer obligation. A couple weeks or so ago - whenever the release date was announced, I think - I decided to get in gear and get a horde 85. So by Saturday he was 84, dinged 85 on Sunday, got through all 3 HoT's last night. I'm figuring he'll be LFR ready by this weekend at latest. Then what?

I have the same issue with my 10 Ally 85s. I'm absolutely not committing to more raid nights than I have because, while I like the crew and the raiding, the scheduled structure is rough. So since I will only do "real raids" with 1 toon, what is there to do with the rest? The reps and dailies and stuff are moot really imo on multiple toons, and now with all the pets and mounts being shared the amount of farming for those that will be required will be cut waaaay down.

Earlier in the expansion it was a bit different because there was a need to upgrade and a lot more stuff to do in a shorter period of time. We would do one of the 1st tier raids for a few weeks, then move on to another, sometimes going back and forth; heroics were a pain; getting gear required effort. Then Firelands dropped and that was the thing to work on. Then HoT, DS and LFR came out. I have been in that same friggin place since like January. There's nowhere else to go. HoT rendered the rest of heroics pointless, and LFR makes it barely even worth running HoTs except out of boredom or filling gear gaps.

If they could find a way to smooth out the content rollout a bit I think that would help some of the grumbling and burnout quite a bit. Or even spreading the raids out among the tiers or adding more. There were, what, 3 or 4 359 gear raids? Then Firelands. Then DS. Why not have multiple raids for each tier. If we had 2 or 3 DS level raids to work on, being stuck with them for a year wouldn't be *as* bad and offer some options.
