Now that MoP has a release date, what are you all doing to prepare? I'm sure there are a number of different ways to get ready, but care to share what are you doing? And which strategy appeals to you?

What do your assets look like?
I've saving up gold so I have the flexibility to buy what I need, when I need it.:4 (20.0%)
I'm stocking up on commodities like cloth and ore so I can resell after new-patch inflation hits.:4 (20.0%)
Something else that isn't one of the two above, and I'm explaining below...:3 (15.0%)
I'm so poor it doesn't really apply for me.:0 (0.0%)
That's what she said.:9 (45.0%)
Total:20

Me?

I'm starting to shift some gold over things like frostweave cloth and the like. I'll probably keep a good 20k or so in gold, but am looking to "invest" the rest, so to speak. I'm not sure how far I'll get on that. I'm not looking to buy things that are too overpriced at the moment really, and knowing it may take a year to unload stuff will probably limit how much I buy.

What about you? Smiley: flowers

I'm doing some dailies now and then when I'm bored, and I'm trying to sell junk out of the guildbank to make room, but otherwise I'm trying to make sure my characters are wearing decent gear so that I don't have to buy entire suits of things off the vendors (assuming said vendors stay in the game and aren't beta-only!).

As far as hoarding items to take advantage of the AH fluctuation, meh. I was never much of an AH player.

I'd rather I've got a decent amount of money to afford the ridiculous numbers of new mounts they're going to be adding to the vendors; I want to be able to buy at least some of them when I get there.

Otherwise, it is more about emptying out inventories/personal banks/guild bank/quest logs so that my characters are ready to quest when the thing goes live. I doubt I'll be pouring over Jade Forest the day it comes out, but yet I'd like to be able to just jump right in a few days later.

I bought me the Vial of the Sands this very week, putting me below 10k for the first time since Wotlk. OTOH I'm doing the Tol Barad dailies just to get the mount, running Shettek for the mount (40-50g per run depending on drops) and also started doing the Hyjal dailies to try and get me the pet. As soon as Anzu drops his mount I'll move on to Baron, then MgT if that one drops too. Two months of that will make me hate the game again and net me a lot of gold I reckon, hopefully around the 40k mark (made 1k yesterday for instance).

I gather that part of the lag I'm experiencing on the Guangdong server may be related to summer construction, but it looks like I'm not going to be able to do much with what had been my regular characters. That, in turn, leaves me going into MoP in a much weaker position than I had planned. As a compromise, I'm stockpiling basic mats and hoping that there will be enough people starting new toons that things like clams and small eggs go through a boom. Sadly, even when one is able to move small eggs for 5+ gold each, that's comparatively small change for the bank space. One good thing about MoP releasing later here will be that I should have a bit of extra time to recover from the shift.

Any input from the beta side?

I've pretty much decided that my existing Tundra Mammoth is a much better deal than spending 120k on a repair Yak. That will leave me more for doodads.

When I left I was at 60k, just because farming more than that was waste since I was too cheap to buy huge items/mounts etc.

In both WotLK & Cata I found that my enchanting mats greatly reduced in price, so I tried to clear out my bags and bank as much as possible and convert it into gold prior to release of an expac.

I've seen similar with enchanting mats, to be honest.

Though Wrath's dust is still popular because people are still making Glacial Bags, as they are just as good as Embersilk, but yet Frostweave is MUCH easier to obtain than Embersilk, at least until MoP is live.

Then, maybe Cata Dust will become more popular.

I tried selling Cata Dust... lol, 1g a dust if you're lucky. Sometimes less than.

Tried selling Cata essence, meh. How long it takes to sell the crap isn't really worth it.

Tried selling Cata Inks, nope. Might as well not even bother.

Ore is hit-or-miss, some reason everyone's buying wrath crap and I can't figure out why. Especially Saronite. I can't believe how much money they are willing to pay for something that is so ridiculously easy to get, it is just astounding. All one has to do is fly to Sholazar and throw a rock in any direction and hit Saronite and they're paying 30-40g a stack for that crap? Yeeeeeeeesh.

That's actually a lot lower than what folks were paying last time I looked. It was closer to about 70g a stack, iirc.

I just... don't understand why.

Heck, I've seen some harder-to-get ores that sell for less than Saronite, say, Fel Iron. Fel Iron is a royal PITA and there's no way around it and a blacksmith needs a freaking ton of it to get up to adamantite. Saronite, you don't even need it that long (you only need to get up to 425 before you can do folded obsidium/redsteel bracers) and it is easy-peasy to get.

Supply and demand. Lots of folks smith without mining. Lots of folks have gold but not time to mine. Lots of folks powerleveling the craft skills of their alts and just don't feel like mining it when less than 1k gold will solve their problem. Also, don't forget that Saronite isn't just used by blacksmithing.

As for fel iron, I know I had massive crap tons of the stuff just mining as I leveled through HFP, so there could likely be a glut in the market at that stage with a lot of folks leveling in specific zones while not as many leveling in the saronite zones.

I'm kind of a packrat so I generally have a lot of stuff stashed on bank alts and in my bank guilds. I'm not stocking up on anything in particular but I like to have stuff available if I need to craft something or if I want to level a crafting profession on a new alt. I also tend to have a large amount of cooking mats for new alts too. I have this all the time though and I am spending more time lately, paring down my stash to make room for all of my leftover Cata stuff which will need to be moved to make space for Mists mats. I usually keep current mats in my private alt guild bank so that all of my alts have easy access to it. The only thing my main keeps separately is current leather since I have no other leather workers and my main is in an actual raiding guild.

I've thought about farming up gold. I haven't been spending much since I paid for three Sandstone drakes a while back after my alchemist finally got the recipe. (One for my main, one for the alchemist, one for my friend.) Of course if I had known then that mounts would get shared across battle.net accounts, I could have saved myself the cost of one of them. I'm not sure what I am back up to these days since the gold is spread across a bunch of characters and several guild banks.

Most of my efforts these days are going to farming gear, recipes, & reputation. I have especially focused on gear from Scholomance because of the upcoming changes and I think I have gotten just about everything I want out of there with the exception of the Ironweave pants that supposedly can still drop off of Kormak (who I can summon). I have spent quite a bit of time trying for those pants but they just won't drop. I did finally get the Arcanite Reaper plans for my blacksmith and I'm almost to exalted with Ravenholdt on my main.

Good luck getting him to drop his pants! Wait, he's an ogre ... unnecessary visual image, three beer penalty! And pass me the eye bleach please?

I tried on the Holocaust Clock that Miracle Max gave me, and now it's soulbound :(

As for stockpiling for the XP, the only thing I'm really doing that's more than a short term buy-low-sell-high is enchanting scrolls. By the time the first wave get dungeon blues, enchants that require Pandarian mats will still be very dear. So I figure the ones being dumped at under current mat cost can't but appreciate in value - and each scroll takes 1/20 of a bank slot.

I'm pretty broke non-stop in these games, but not because I spend a lot of money. If I need money for something, I'll go out and farm it, but I don't find farming interesting enough to do it regularly. Most of my gold is spent on repairs and buying gear for my non-85 alts, so it's limited how much I need.

As for money sinks, like pets and mounts, I'm not interested in any of them. I use my Panda Cub pet almost always and I'm a Worgen Dudu so I don't need mounts. Rawr.

I've got a fair amount of gold (I'm generally a saver not a spender) so I'm not planning anything to make more before the expansion. That being said I have alts and a guild bank full of junk that I want to try and shift before the expansion, I might be better off hanging on to some of it to potentially take advantage of people changing professions, but at the start of the expansion I'll be wanting to level my toons, not spend hours at the auction house.

I'm seriously tempted to see if there's someone in my guild who'd like to sell my stuff for a cut of the earnings.
