.....hasn't been updated since May 10th.

Sometimes, I wonder if we should just direct-link to MMO-champ since that is probably what most people check anyway.

I remember the days when there was a new news item every other day.

Those days are behind us, it seems.

Not for lack of news (there's tons of news every day coming from the Beta as seen on MMO-Champ), though.

Call it a crazy idea, but if you have some free time, hit up Xsarus about volunteering or something.

I mean, I have no idea if they'd be game for it, but it's worth a shot. Not sure what they have planned, if anything, for the new expansion. Writing for Zam wasn't actually all that bad. 5-10 hours a week and you put up a couple of articles, links from the main forums here for discussion or something. I would love to get back into it myself, but with a couple of little ones now the Mrs. wouldn't allow it.

Oh and don't worry about the initiation process, you'll remember very little of it anyway. Smiley: sly

Yes, the page you see when you follow

http://wow.allakhazam.com/

before you go into the forums. And I noticed that a new news item was just posted, lol.

It kinda blows my mind that we haven't had anything new. FYI, the news structure for ZAM is pretty fragmented. We're still churning out a lot of news articles, but they tend to be about games we don't have forums for (My recent articles include DDO, LOTRO, End of Nations, etc. Playing TERA and Firefall right now for article as well). When it comes to our "big" forums like WoW and Rift and SWTOR, articles aren't created by the "official" news team itself. I want to say that the admins responsible for those forums are also responsible for news content, but that's just an assumption. I know I went to do an article on Rift a couple of weeks ago and found out, unbeknownst to myself or even my editor, that a Rift forum admin had already set up an interview about it.

There's some lack of communication, but it is weird that we don't have anything new on WoW. I'll bring that up with my editor and see if I can find out why.

Locke, while you're at it, perhaps you could bring up a couple of other points:

When a new article is added, would it really break someone's arm to post something in the relevant forum?

Alla is still part of ZAM, right? So why does Wowhead get all the contests and loot? There might be some more beta discussion on the forum if the parent company ... um, gave some some of the posters here beta keys?

Wowhead is ZAM's golden WoW egg. I think it's fairly obvious by now that Wowhead is doing better than us, so they're funneling money and time into that place instead of here. Thus the missing news articles and no one from ZAM noticing the lack of news articles until a user asked about it.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm - naturally - disappointed that they decided to go with Wowhead instead of this place, but Wowhead had a way better layout and much larger following when they merged, so it made sense to focus on improving that place instead of spending a lot more resources turning people to this place.

As for the beta key giveaways, I still have nightmares about incoherent window-lickers making new threads about how "assum!" Cataclysm was, and how they were looking forward to playing worgen characters because of fur and whatnot. I don't mind the lack of beta key giveaway contests. I never win that crap anyway.

Not really interested in joining WoWhead myself, to be honest.

Sure, it is a good place to look up information, but to actually post there in forums (do they have forums? lol)? Meh.

I started here when I was in FFXI, and naturally came here when I started playing WoW. I don't really have any urge to go move somewhere else, to be honest.

I'll check WoWhead for data/holiday guides/etc, but that's about all I do there.

Kinda sad that they just let this place fall and don't do much with it, but meh. Not much the devoted few die-hard fans are gonna do about that I don't think.

That's pretty much the answer I got back Smiley: frown Well, the spirit of it. Basically, wowhead is what really puts ZAM on the map: mention ZAM and people will go Smiley: confused, mention wowhead and they will go Smiley: yippee

I'm working with the editor-in-chief to see if we can update the process a bit, or at least get all the updates on wowhead linked to ZAM's page. We're all technically on the same team, after all... and wowhead does have some pretty decent MOP coverage.

So yeah. Not sure if it'll be a simple reposting of everything from wowhead, or if we can actually set up the sites to make articles automatically shared on both, but we'll get something fixed Smiley: smile
#13REDACTED, Posted: Jul 12 2012 at 4:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I mean honestly Locke. Just tell them to merge the posters here to the WoWhead forums. Give them their post counts and some ability to rate a post and they will be happy. If not, well.. it's only 10 or so people that will be upset.

I disagree. Merging two communities who don't know each other at all can conjure all kinds of problems. Which leads to people leaving.

There are also some 100 anonymous viewers, mate.

Why? What would we or anyone else gain by shutting down this site? ZAM will shut this place down when the red numbers at the bottom reach a high enough (negative) value. Until then, how about we not encourage them?

I don't think we'd do that. Keep in mind that while we might be known at large for wowhead, the ZAM site itself hosts a pretty standard format across all of our forums. We might close down forums when they absolutely stop (I seem to recall a bunch of FFXI forums being closed years ago, and pretty sure GW2 all got sent to the General Games forums), but I don't think we would combine forums. As said, throwing two communities together like that is a bad idea.

Granted, it's not my call, but I'd be against it. Merging news stories though? That would be fine.

We always have a slowdown between the last patch in an expansion and the next one getting released. I have no doubt it'll pick up again once MOP is released.

If anyone wants to write articles, or create some sort of content for the front page I'd be happy to help you out with that. Protein did that in a past life, as he's mentioned. You'll get free premium as long as you're contributing.

It's like watching someone crawl from the wreckage, climb into another car, start it up, and promptly wreck it by driving it at high speed into a brick wall.

When did you graduate medical school and get appointed Medical Examiner? I mean, it's just fascinating to think about the circle you're running in. You post in here, yet a number of your posts are about how this board is dead or dying, yet you continue to post, yet you continue to pronounce it dead . . .

There was a bit in the news yesterday about a woman in Ohio who kept her dead boyfriend's body sitting in the chair in her living room so that she would have company while she watched TV. She told the police she kept him clean and changed his clothes regularly. If this place is dead, why are you still here?

Free premium?

That would be tempting... I dunno if I'd really have the time/energy to write up articles like that. Tempting, though. Who knows maybe someday I might. My writing skills are a bit dusty; hmm. Ah well.
