Me. I'm playing nothing except the last GW2 beta weekend until it launches, then that's the only game I'll be playing for a while. Sadly it doesn't seem to be getting Zammified.

Haven't decided yet whether I'll resub for pandas and monks. On the one hand, I do not care about pandas and monks. On the other, WoW has great nostalgic powers, and they always come back.

MoP should offer a great deal more than just monks and the PandaREN. Smiley: nod

Personally I'm not much into the farming stuff but pet battles, challenges and scenarios all sound nice and I really like some of the other additions, like the Black Market Auction House.

I really don't get the hate for the pet battles. WoW already has a lot of minigames, especially since the Darkmoon Faire overhaul. Nobody complains about them. Sure some people don't like them and thus don't do them. But why this irrational BLAAAARGH POKEMON?

It just adds to the diversity of the game for the people who are into it. Everbody else loses nothing. So why complain?

I've not seen a lot of hate for pet battles, rather excitement. Then again, I don't frequent a lot of forums about the game. To me, it's just a seemingly fun way to do new achievements.

I'm not playing any MMO right now either. I play D3 a little bit, but not very much. I don't have a lot of hope that I'll be back for MoP, just because I have so many other things going on in my life right now, but you never know.

I'm still playing...casual, social, or whatever you want to call it when I get bored and log off within 10 min of logging on. There are days when I'll put a few hours in, but I'm not constantly playing as I used to.
Moving in with my girl didn't really affect it, our hours are so different that I have a few hours free every evening because she has to crash by 9pm. I can stay up til 1am sometimes, depending on my schedule the next day.
I did get an email from Rift this week, offering me a 35% discount... Smiley: rolleyes
I'm also seriously thinking about giving FFXIV another chance when they offer the New! Improved! Super! New! Version! in the fall. Don't hate... I'm staring at the FFXIV CE box I bought 2 yrs ago, sitting on the shelf above my desk atm.

So out of the 5 or 6 of you that post on Allakhazam.com WoW forums regularly, the majority of you don't actually play the game anymore? That's quite interesting!

I play quite regularly, as it has been for a majority of my life, video games are my choice for entertainment. I picked the MMO genre 12 years ago, and WoW has been the one I've played for the past 8 years for a majority of the time. I still play other games, Civilization, The Sims, Minecraft, Elder Scrolls. I don't haver the play schedule like I use to. Now 36 years old, with a wife, baby and career, I do what I can when I can. But as I said, it's just enterttainment, something to do in my downtime.

Currently enjoying the beta, and exploring the new features before they get finely tuned and improved on for the final product. Monk is a hoot. My new favorite class.

Yes I spend way too much time reading the comments of WoWInsider and the forums of MMO-Champion and sometimes even the o-boards (shame I know) and there are so many people crying their despair and anger to the sky because of Pokemon and Kungfu-Panda.
It's really annoying. There are so many childish-themed* things already in WoW, some of them since launch, to get worked up over these additions to the game doesn't make that much sense to me.

*This is highly subjective but that seems to be one of the major complaints with MoP.

I don't think it's irrational. You summon undersized, seemingly harmless pets to fight battles for you. I think the comparison is pretty rational, especially considering Blizzard's flirt with pop culture and Pokémon being pop culture.

TherealLogros wrote:

I don't know why people would complain about more content. Judging by the ratedowns, I take it more than one person thought I was complaining. They might want to brush up on their lurking as they'd know I'm not an opponent of more content. Sure, the rolling eyes smiley indicates a certain amount of animosity towards it, but I chose that smiley because it's the closest thing we've got to playful sarcasm without entering creepyland --> Smiley: sly

I find it interesting that people would so easily jump to conclusions and utilize the karma system. Blatant ratedowns tell me that some of the proponents of this feature feel powerless in this debate. A wrong signal to send, don't you think? My post wasn't uninformative or unhelpful. It contained what could be construed as my personal opinion on a matter, but hardly something worthy of red arrows.

I've said it before and I'll say it again (since I'm already knee-deep in "don't talk about karma"), the karma system is meant to filter out unwanted posts, not show your disapproval of a post. If you disapprove, tell the person so that a debate can begin and both parties can benefit from the learning experience.

"Be tolerant of everything except intolerance."
- Some Danish professor you don't know

Being able to accept someone's opinion and in return offer your own opinion is what we here call being cultivated and educated. The quote is a paradox, though. Be tolerant of everything, but not intolerance. You'd have to be intolerant of your own intolerance, which is divide by zero and sh*t.

Truth be told I really thought you were complaining but I didn't rate you down. I only rate posts down that piss me off. And while I was strongly opposed to the sentiment I had thought your post contained it didn't bother me enough to push the red arrow. Smiley: wink

The comparison pet battles <-> Pokemon of course isn't irrational. What I find irrational is that many people use this comparison as an argument against the implementation of the pet battle system.

Ah, the karma rating system. I wasn't going to bring it up, but, thanks to Maz for doing so. Lawd knows I've ranted once or twice in my day here on Allakhazam forums, simply because my opinion became an unpopular one. I have always viewed the karma system as a way to help regulate spam, or otherwise harmful posts. As others would explain, a way to police the forum ourselves.

But is it really used this way? Now take the newly departed posts of RAWDEAL. He had a way of pissing in the cheerios of many a threads here and ruffled a few feathers in the process. The ones where he would go off on posters, berating them as +1'er trolls is why I thought the karma system was here. But most of the time, it's just an unpopular opinion expressed, as Mazra has just demonstrated, that get's a barrage of red arrows and the result is exactly how Maz reacted. "It's my opinion, like or lump it, and it deserves to be expressed, debated and discussed."

And does the karma bombing a post to sub default truly work? Do any of you have the filter on to actually hide sub defaulted posts? Could the karma system here on these forums, which is something you don't generally see in forums today, be a part of the reason you see a very few number in subscribed members of this forum?

On WoW: Like I said before, I'll be probably back at MoP. 5 years at the same game without a break, so one was overdue in my mind at least. That rogue I was leveling is calling my name though. I may have to head back soon and finish what I started. Well once I reach the stone wall in my "free" D3 at least... Smiley: wink

On karma: I've rarely come across someone with a color they didn't earn. Karma says a lot about the demeanor of the person, a little glimpse into their personality. I don't know if it was intended that way or not, but it does a nice job at that. Intelligent, no nonsense, no sugar coating kinds of posters have always been blue in my mind. Those who were red tended to more tactful, or have a less confrontational personality at least. My biggest complaint about karma here and now, is that it doesn't work as well once the group gets smaller, for reasons that have already been well discussed I suppose.

Also, they made it hard to sub-default people now.

Also, also, I'm lazy with the rating of posts. If you aren't a spammer I'm probably not going to rate down.

I don't know. There are some people here that are red (me included) that have way less knowledge of the game than some of the blue and green folks. What you stated afterwards about personality may have the biggest impact on that but Theo or DrownedFish (just for example) always struck me as very competent. And while they both liked to flame or spam sometimes they always answered genuine questions with some helpful advice. If the question was stupid or born of lazyness on the other hand... ;)

While this helps keeping the atmosphere nice most of the time I think knowledge and expertise should have a greater impact than how it is now. I would be not red then most likely but oh well.

Edit: grammar

I think Raw is the only person I can honestly say did not ever deserve to attain the level of scholar. Mostly because once he got scholar, he got trigger happy. He abused it, he karma camped people. I can honestly say that the only time I ever rated him down for anything, was when he was being a dick. For the most part, I like the karma system. However, there are always going to be people who abuse it. I think it's appropriate to rate someone down for being a dick, giving incorrect information, or generally saying something stupid or ignorant. Disagreeing with someone, is not a good reason. Not liking someone, is not a good reason. Rating someone down for no apparent reason, and then not even making a post to explain yourself, is not a good reason.

I dunno, I've never been able to take a system in which Pold is not a guru seriously. Pold is, like, the McGyver of mages. Pold could build a mage with nothing but a spammer, a cup of pudding, and a paper clip.

I suspect that there's a segment of the population that sees pet battles as a symptom of the game becoming ever less hardcore. Since including something which distracts from "doing 5-mans to get everyone the key to 15-mans where you get the gear for 20-mans to farm resistance gear for 40-mans where if anyone makes a single mistake it's a wipe and everyone has to corpse run all the way back from the one graveyard in the entire zone so we can spend the next fifteen minutes individually applying buffs to all 40 people and hurry up because we only have another hour before the flasks we spent an entire day collecting rare herb spawns for will run out" is just catering to casuals.

Same people who complain about the inclusion of a comic relief character in Diablo 3 not because he's a bad character (and he is kind of irritating) but because they want their doom and gloom to be completely unmitigated.

Be interesting to see how many of them never get the title for the top-level challenge dungeon achievement.

I think people use the comparison because Pokémon in general is seen as something childish, or at the least immature, which seems to be the opinion of the MoP expansion from the hater camp. I won't be the judge of whether or not Pokémon is for children, I merely brought it up because someone mentioned that monks and pandas were the prominent features in the new expansion, which is what the opponents are using as ammunition in the various WoW forums I've visited, not to mention YouTube.

Take this golden nugget from the official MoP trailer, for instance:

Quote:

I think the smiley fits better here.

While I don't have any proof to that claim I'm highly convinced that many of the people who do have a problem with childish features in "their" game are the younger ones. They want to look really cool and mature by hating things like Kungfu-Panda (the movie came after Chen in WC3 but WHO CARES).
I'm turning 29 in a few months and Pokemon + cuddly Pandaren don't bother me much. But maybe I'm just a manchild and completely wrong.

On another note: Maybe this forum really has lost something due to RAW leaving. Just by saying his goodbye he has gotten so many of us to post. Okay, the thread is derailed and all, but still. Smiley: lol

I'm just getting over deQuervain's Tendonits. Not sure if it was Skyrim or Mass Effect that caused it, but I started taking 5-6 Ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours based upon my self diagnosis and self prescribing. By the way, that much Ibuprofen is not recommended unless you have the body size to dilute it, or the lack of brains to know better. Both of which I have.

I'm back playing WoW after a year away, and boy is it ever frustrating. I did some dailies on my Pally in Prot spec and then my friend asked me to do a random heroic. I lost the group on the first trash fight and could not figure out why my heals were so pathetic. Whoops, still in Prot spec. Smiley: oyvey I also suffered the indignity, for the first time actually, of having my group break up because the healer "must be asleep." That definitely hurt. I blame it on a year away and iLevel of 351 equipped.

I don't fall in the category of regular poster not playing, but I've been lurking around in the dark corners for a while. And now I'm playing again.

You have a certain history on the question of how you view and interact with forums. In your own words:

Quote:
I let that agitate me to the point where I was posting with malice, which in turn made some administrator's take notice, and properly deal with what I was doing.

You turned up in this thread and quickly returned to the same talking points. In your first post in the thread, you describe yourself (as quoted above) as "trolling". You asked a question, it got answered. You asked another question, it got answered. You got off onto karma and posing more questions -- that's when I asked who appointed you Grand Inquisitor.

Seriously, the "who, me?" passive aggressive schtick is an old game, but depending on your meds you may not see what you're doing. I have no problem with you, I have a problem with a particular profile -- self announced trolls who keep beating the same points, especially when they don't really have anything to do with the game. If that shoe happens to fit, perhaps you should remember where this particular path has already taken you?

I understand now.

Well perhaps its my fault for stating "I troll the forums", as I used the term "troll" to describe that I "read over" the forums once or twice a month. I don't know if you can look into my posting history, but besides this thread, I haven't actually posted here save once or twice a month. This is what I meant to say.

I remember what I said in that post, which I also explained,

Quote:

I view forums now, as an online complaint department. And when consumers are unhappy with something, they will always comment negitively. Seeing a forum community troll one another over a particular topic isn't what I wanted in a forum. I wanted debate and discussion.

Any game I choose to play, I play because I enjoy it. Despite it's fault's, I still enjoy it, otherwise I would not play it. My enjoyment leads me to a forum to discuss it with others. I think the rise of official forums have led to the increase in complaint and negativity across all forums, fan sites such as this.

It's just a damn buzz kill to read day in and day out.

I don't really know you, as I don't recognize your name, but I've been coming to this website for 10+ years. While my post count does not show it, I have been an active member for a long time. My Grand Inquisition is nothing more than a general wondering on what others think. That's why I put them as questions. Furthermore, I did not bring up karma. Mazra did. I simply asked questions once it became a subject of debate.

But in your eyes, I have a certain history? You've read all 2k+ of my posts then have you? I had a moment of agitation which lead to questionable actions and ultimately my decision to leave these forums so that brands me as a troll? Shame on you then, for jumping to such quick conclusions. Especially since I've done nothing save that incident a year ago now.

Quite right, in fact, this whole thread has nothing to do with the game. Yet here it stands. And as someone has pointed out, it's the most conversation you boys and girls have had here in a long time. Asking questions, discussion, debate. Is that not the purpose of a forum? Label me with whatever term you wish. I'll post here as it pleases me, if the admins will have me. But again, I'll reiterate. If what I post is not to your liking, please add me to your ignore list.

I like my coffee how I like my women.
Hot.

That was the best I could come up with, seriously.

I want to say I agree with this; but I've never had a chance to try black, full-bodied, with a hint of a bitterness. Smiley: frown

By dark, I meant dark haired. Smiley: tongue I have a slight preference for pasty dudes, because I'm pasty myself. But it's only a slight preference.

Nah... His muscles are too big. I like guys who are either skinny or chubby. Skinny guys I find more physically attractive, chubby guys are fun to cuddle. Muscles are nice to look at and all, but I don't think I've ever been sexually attracted to a guy with big muscles. I like nerds too much, and nerds very rarely have big muscles.

Tails, I think you'd love to cuddle with Antony Hegarty from Antony and the Johnsons. Dark hair, pasty skin, fluffy and androgynous.
