Participate in WoW research, win game timeFollow

#1 Jun 19 2012 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Greetings!

I am part of team doing a study on the World of Warcraft Looking-For-Raid (LFR) system. We’re interested in how players have experienced the current LFR system, particularly loot distribution. If you currently play World of Warcraft and have run LFR before, please take this 10-minute survey and let us know your opinions and your LFR strategies. Your responses will be kept anonymous and used only for our study (that is – we aren’t working for Blizzard, we're scholars interested in systems like LFR wherever they pop up).

Two participants will be randomly chosen to win a 30-day WoW Game Time code after the completion of the study.

Thanks for your time! Here's the link.

There you go. Normally pass on these posts but I could use some time since money is tight at the moment. Might I ask how many different sites you posted this at? Also when will the survey end?

Just a point about the wording of the statements regarding expectations of other players - it would be worth clarifying whether you're after what you think they will do or what you think they should do. I went for 'should', but...

Pretty quick survey and easy. I hope I win! I'm sure Theo is missing me Smiley: tongue

That's a good point. We're looking at how players think others WILL behave, but when looking at the responses, I'll take your input into consideration.

Thanks everyone for taking the survey. We're hoping to get ~300 responses, so the survey will close when we hit our target. I've posted this all over the place in the more public WoW-related sites (WoW forums, WoWhead, etc.), but if you want to pass it on to your guilds or friends, that would be pretty awesome.

As a side note, from looking at others' feedback, a large portion of responses don't have e-mails attached to them - we can't give game time without an e-mail, so your chances to win may be better than expected.

I honestly would consider that their fault if they're hoping for the chance at the game time. It's even noted in the survey at the end that the email is needed for the entry of the game time. It's not your problem, imo.

Absolutely. :) Just wanted to let people know that their chances may be better than expected.

We are still looking for responses as we haven't hit our target goal, so if you haven't taken it yet, there's still time!

Just finished taking the survey, and it's good to see that there is some critiquing of the current looting system in LFR. I also would like to know, when will the survey be closing?

Somehow I missed this when it was fresh and new. Since it is still possible to participate I figure they haven't hit their goal yet.

Kao. He has no IRB.
I'm going to take all your veggies and eat them!

We need to know:
1. Who is conducting the research (University, person. email is usually enough.)
2. Description of the research.
3. Risks and Discomforts
4. Potential Benefits (this research will help us learn about.....)
5. Incentives (free game time.)
6. Protection of Confidentiality (this includes something about being able to withdraw at any time.)
7. Voluntary participation (I understand that my participation is entirely voluntary, and the decisions to participate or not, or to later withdraw my participation are mine alone...)
8. Contact for Principal Investigator and their Ethics board (IRB in the United States, HREC in Australia...Kali and Nila might know who is the ethics board in the U.K)

There is a link to a sample consent form, with hints and tips.

That's a lot of precautions. I'm sure glad I didn't have to consider all that when I did my surveys. Risks and discomforts, protection of confidentiality and ethics boards? I just told people to not sign the survey paper before handing it in.

Why would you need all those precautions? I mean, I get that it's the US, where people get sued over hot coffee and stuff, but still...
