I have a profound mistrust of missionaries and recovery programs with missionary overtones. I've sent too many students to study in the US, only to see them recruited into one of the less mainstream churches and then used as a tool to recruit their fellow students. In time, words like "tithe" start to appear, together with appeals to send missionaries to horrible, third world places like wealthy suburbs of Shanghai. I support the freedom of religious choice, but find some tactics to be unconscionable. To use an extreme example, I disagree with the confrontational strategy used by a particular Baptist church. Attempting to prey on the emotionally vulnerable is not on the good side of my list.
Much like Youtube, Scribd is blocked here. I can't see first hand if this is one of those "save an addict" ploys, but it strikes that kind of chord with me. The plea for advice, the coincidental appearance of a survivor. Ah well, given where I've been living and working, I'm probably just too suspicious of coincidences. Here, they are usually too well choreographed.
