I bet I'm the only one irritated by this, but that is a seriously improper use of the term ethnicity. And considering this is an academic survey, you SHOULD feel bad for that.

First of all, the only ethnicity listed is Hispanic. And it is NOT synonymous with Latino. You can be a non-Hispanic Latin American, and you can be a Hispanic Caucasian.

Asian, Caucasian, African American, etc. are all races. They correlate with ethnicity, but there's no rule that links them. They are generally populated by significant ethnic groups, but there are also outliers. For instance, Hispanics largely fall under the Latin American race, but there are plenty of African American/Caucasian Hispanics. Say you are Asian and were adopted by a Polish family at 6 months old. You might be racially Asian but Ethnically Polish.

Generally speaking, surveys in the US only ask for your race and whether or not you are Hispanic by ethnicity, because otherwise you'd have to list hundreds or thousands to include everyone. Grouping Hispanic in with Latin American is another big failing, because the population of non-Latin American Hispanics is significant.

Nothing wrong with that.

A patient, calm, and non-judgemental nice person at work. It's a tough role most days =P
