What do you think of the Annual Pass now that D3 is out?Follow

So one of the big perks about the WoW Annual Pass was getting D3 for free. It was the last of the goodies coming our way (mount and beta invites being the others, just in case anyone may not know). As for D3, it retails for like $60ish, and probably made signing up more palpable for for many people. After all D2 was one of those games that had fans years later still. So now that you've had your chance to try it, what do you think? Both about D3 and whether or not it was what you were hoping for when you signed up for the annual pass.

A poll if you will...

What's your opinion of D3 and the WoW annual pass?
Thumbs up for D3 and glad I got the pass:27 (55.1%)
Thumbs down on D3 but still glad I got the pass:1 (2.0%)
Thumbs up for D3, but the pass still wasn't worth it:8 (16.3%)
Thumbs down on D3 and the pass too:0 (0.0%)
I didn't buy the pass, but I'll complain if the poll doesn't have an option for me:10 (20.4%)
None of the above; pass me some popcorn:3 (6.1%)
Total:49

Myself? D3 is fine, I'm liking it okay. I'm not WoW'd Smiley: clown by it or anything, but it should eat up some spare time for a while. Still in the "glad I got the pass" crowd though, even though I've yet to try out MoP beta.

Share your thoughts anyone? Smiley: flowers

I enjoy logging into WoW every once in a while for PvP, and getting D3 just for having WoW for a year (and a beta pass for MoP) is nice. D3 is fun, but I prefer WoW over it.

Things I like:

Gameplay seems pretty solid. Lots of zombies to kill, decent variety in the encounters.
No complaints about the crafting.
Blizzard's sense of humor.

Things I don't like:

Auction house lag, and I'm not fond of the AH interface. Had better luck logging in early this morning though, last night it was unusable.
Some of the controls, mostly what Pigtails (I think) said about the whole left-click thing binding attack and movement being the biggest offender.
Storyline just isn't meshing with me. It seems a little forced, and my character has a weird attitude towards others I find a bit put-offish.

What class are you playing Protein? I've got a witch doctor, and I think she's awesome. I love the VA.

Overall, I'm happy. I don't know if monetarily, this made the pass worth it or not, but so far I'm happy. I have a feeling my bf will like the game a lot more than I do, but I could be wrong.

I've never played a Diablo game, so I'm liking it. However I'm having PC issues, so if/when I get to play is a toss up (but i totally jt played for like an hour and a half, so that is good sign!)

I'll still log into WoW...soon I guess. I was getting bored after only being back for a month or 2. I rolled a few new toons and played a few others, but I still like my Warrior and DK.

If D3 for some reason gets omgawesome in the next few levels (I'm lv8 i think) then I could see me breaking the contract and just going out and buying D3 until PandaLand comes out.

So far (beginning of act 3 normal) the game is pretty good (and very easy). I'm glad I got the pass.

Time will tell if D3 has the same long term fun factor D2 has.

Glad I didn't cave in. Not that D3 looks horrible, I just don't think it would've been worth it, for me, to pay for a year of WoW. Especially since I haven't played the latter since early January..

Diablo 3 seems an enjoyable enough game, though I'm taking it nice and easy.

I'm not one of those people who has to get through the game ASAP; the game will be there, it isn't going to just up and disappear suddenly.

That, and I'm one of those poor souls who are plagued by 3007 errors unless I stay in General Chat, and... well. Just to give you an idea, from what I've seen, Diablo 3 General = Vanilla Barrens General.

It is a workaround that does seem to work, but yet at the same time I think I'd rather be able to stay connected without having to join the chat channel...

At any rate, I planned on playing WoW for a year+ anyways, so I got a free mount for all of my characters and a free game, so yay! Glad I got it.

Edit: There's also the MoP Beta Pass, but I'm waiting for them to get the Beta a little closer to release before I tinker with it much. I'm namely waiting on the pet battles, and to get a preview of the farming system, and/or see some of the other races' monk animations (because my monks will likely be pandas on Live servers).

Worst workaround ever simply because of the amount of stupidity in that channel. I'm also one of those poor souls and thank god for "block communication". I wish the chat window could be collapsed or something so I could be in the channel in order to stay connected, but not have to have it on my screen. I've tried to tune it out, but it just doesn't work.

I haven't tried testing this yet, but you can't send the chat stuff to another chat tab like you can with whispers in WoW? That's pretty lame.

EDIT: If you're wondering why the general chat workaround works (for those it works for, doesn't work for everyone), here's a post I made on the official forums about it:

if you were going to play for the next 12 months, then it is no different from simply playing for the next 12 months.

you aren't "paying for a year". you are still paying in whatever increments you were paying before: monthly, bi-monthly, or every six months. All you are doing is saying "yeah, I'm going to continue doing so for a year".

If you should stop doing so before that year is up, they simply clear the perks from your account.

You sure about that?

Annual Pass FAQ wrote:
Ok, I’ve changed my mind, and I’d like to cancel the WoW Annual Pass (and my subscription that goes with it). Can I do that?

In general terms no, you won't be able to cancel, and the contract specifies this as part of the agreement. If you believe you have an exceptional set of circumstances that warrant further consideration, however, you’ll need to get in touch with our Account and Payment team directly for further assistance – the contact details can be found in the section at the bottom of this sticky.

And this guy seems to confirm that.

I mean, sure, nothing prevents me from just shutting down my bank account, but I'm also pretty sure that nothing prevents Blizzard from suspending my account indefinitely because I tried to ***** them over.

Blizzard is likely to clear the perks from your account, including Diablo 3 and MoP Beta access, and shut down your account until such time as you resume payment. I'm assuming if/when you do resume payment, you won't get the annual pass benefits back.

However, since that is technically a breach of contract. what Blizzard is able to do is far more. As I understand it, Blizzard has the legal right to pursue the applicable legal consequences for breaching contract in your country. This means that if Blizzard took you to court, they would probably win.

But still, the first situation is more likely.

I went for the annual pass for the dandelion mount and because I'd most likely be playing WoW for a year anyway so it didn't cost me anything extra. I'm playing D3 as it was free and rather enjoying it. Controls take some getting used to and normal mode is extremely easy (so far, I'm only at level 10 though), it's nice for a change from WoW and I'm not in any rush to get through the game. Played with a friend yesterday, but it didn't seem to require any sort of team work and it's kinda weird having someone else play a single player game with you. I'm not sure if I'll try a different difficulty, probably will if it doesn't get harder by level 20 or so. Probably won't try any other classes, I'm quite enjoying witch doctor and I'm assuming that the story line won't change much (if at all) by playing a different class.

I have heard from a friend that the game is fairly easy on Nightmare (she is not a gamer), & that she was able to clear normal without a death.

Apparently Inferno is difficult as all ****, forgive the pun. The questions I haven't asked is do you need to clear the ****** easy difficulties in order to play hard? It has been a decade since I have played D2 but I recall having to clear and then playing through again on my paladin at the time.

I don't believe she played through normal without dying at all honestly. You'd have to be really careful, although I guess it would be doable. I really don't see beating a few of the bosses without dying at least a couple times.

I had to put "none of the above".

I have the annual pass and I am perfectly happy with it and the mount since I still play WoW daily and enjoy it.

I haven't even downloaded my free Diablo 3 yet so I can't say whether I am happy with it or not. I never played any of the previous ones either. I have watched my boyfriend play it and it looks interesting but I'm not sure it is for me. He's not happy with D3 right now though because he's had a few disconnects that have caused him to lose a lot of work because losing connection means going back to your last checkpoint and losing all progress. You can't just save and you can't just pop back in where you last left off. The whole internet connection required deal is ******* him off a lot. I think he was enjoying the gameplay itself though before he just got totally ****** and quit playing.

I am inclined to believe her as she tends to like to make fun of how bad she is at video games. She stated normal was face roll and with a group it was even more so.

I do have to say that watching Inferno videos that level of group play has my elitist e-wood slightly lifted.

The connection issues have been annoying. There was that forced disconnect on Saturday (I think?) that peeved the Mrs. a little, as she had to do a good amount over again. It made some things easier for me the other day though. I was on some quest that involved saving like 6 prisoners. I disconnected while trying to find #6. When I logged back in, the dungeon had reset, and that meant all of the prisoners re-spawned, but my quest progress was saved. Elusive #6 was then the same prisoner I saved initially. Smiley: lol

I wished if nothing else they saved the mini-map thing though, for whatever reason I find it annoying to lose what I've discovered. I usually don't mind having the mobs re-spawn, as mindless grinding is one of the parts of the game I like most. Smiley: grin

Yeah, I can see that. I've soloed it as a DH, and while it's not super hard on normal, I certainly died when I accidentally pulled extra mobs dealing with challenging champions every now and again. A couple of the bosses kicked my *** in act 4 as well. Especially the one that spawns millions of mobs.

You can clear normal mode without dying fairly easily actually. I never died during the beta on any of the classes and was kinda worried the game was gonna be too easy. I think normal mode is a touch too easy but nightmare seems about right. I tend to play to clear every inch of a level so I cleared everything and did not run from any fights but I did have to kite a few things. Belial was the toughest boss for me in normal mode but still wasn't that challenging. On nightmare mode I have skipped a few of the extra dungeons because I was sort of pressed for real life time.

Now, that being said, I'm sad to say my monk has died 5x on nightmare mode now. The random abilities the nameds and champions get just have it in for me lately lol I keep getting packs of vampiric arcane and the templar is pretty retarded and stands there fully healing the baddies I'm trying to whittle down. My first death came from a pack of vampiric arcane combined with a pack of vampiric desecrator. I couldn't even try to hit them without healing them...that sucked, but I'm not playing hardcore so no big deal.

I'm about the middle of nightmare Act III and so far Belial is still the only tough boss I've faced in my opinion - I died once to him. I'm lvl 46 right now.

I mostly play solo but I did jump into a friends game to help her with Diablo and then we ran most of Act I nightmare mode together.

My complaints are limited to:
  • Left clicking to move and attack gets you stuck sometimes where you wanted to move but your toon just kept standing in the fire....
  • Only being able to list 10 items on the AH is kinda weak. I don't mind a limit but 10 is really low. I salvaged everything that dropped from normal mode and have started posting rares from nightmare but I still have way more items than I can list

For my monk I used a combination of Blinding Flash every time it's up (sometimes they are immune other times they aren't, guessing it's because they are in the middle of some ability), and after learning his pattern of when he uses his bigger attacks I trigger Seven-Sided Strike, not so much for the dmg but because it makes me immune to dmg for 3 seconds. Throw in Lashtail Kick which I have runed for the knockback and I was able get away from him when to I needed some space, and I have Fists of Thunder runed with Thunderclap to teleport to him when I want to start attacking again.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who will say my build sucks, and while that may be, it works for me which is all that's important especially since I'm playing it as a solo game really :)

I do think the game is a little stingy on weapon upgrades - I've had to purchase two sets of upgrades from the AH because I noticed my DPS was falling behind the monster levels quite badly. I get enough weapons as loot but my monk doesn't need any more intelligence...
