It seems that scant news has been hitting Alla from the MoP Beta. True, there have been the somewhat obligatory doom and gloom comments, but not much solid information. What news is there about crafting? Yes, I know there is a Tradeskills forum, but things are slow and there may be folks checking here that aren't checking there.

The crafting system in WoW seems to be getting long in the tooth and cluttered with the remains of old expansions. Is any of it getting cleaned up, or will LW still get to muddle through Vanilla's maze of materials? "Well, you might get leather or you might get a hide. If you get a hide you'll need salt, but at some point you'll need Deeprock Salt and don't ask about Refined Deeprock Salt. Sometimes you'll get specialized leather that will let you make something taking a list of hard to find mats that are now almost impossible to find and the item itself is something that would have been cool back in the day but currently your best hope is that it is good for transmogrification." And of course: "You have reached Outland, you will need 6 billion motes that nobody is farming anymore and you will learn to hate the word "scrap". Other trades have their own versions of this; Inscription for example has the joy of needing Books of Glyph Mastery -- which are just flooding the AH because of all the folks getting random world drops in Northrend these days!

As a fallback question, what are people doing to adjust to the end of expansion slump and prepare for the new expansion boom?

mmo-champion has had some information. I'm really excited about gaining rep with The Anglers (fishing faction). I must have the Reins of the Water Strider, what ever it takes.

As far as the end of expansion slump, I like setting a goal and going for it. I've picked up Rivendare's Deathcharger, and recently my Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank. I'm stockpiling some gold from the AH, and doing more holiday quests. I finished up the old Mount Hyjal rep for my 51st Exalted, and need to finish up 2 more runs of Black Temple for my 52nd Exalted.

Things are a bit slow, but there are still things to do. Go get Loremaster if you haven't already, or pick another goal that suits your fancy.

Smiley: lol By "end of expansion slump" I meant the drop in AH activity. Let's call the other one "end of expansion malaise". I have a whole separate stable of Horde toons waiting in the wings, so I don't expect any such problem.

Yep, but before ZAM threw this site's WoW section under the bus to support wowhead, one used to be able to find information here instead of it having been turned into a Bates Motel for SoR requests and surveys. Oh, yeah, that's right. Now we've got an admin posting about WOW on the home page, but not posting anything here in the forums. Here? We have to refer people over to a Curse affiliate? There's been pretty much something every day on MMO-Champion about MoP. I don't really like that they're Curse-affiliated, but wowhead just can't keep up with them.

That said, I post rogue stuff in my thread on the class forum but I don't really care enough to keep a constant thread going here.

There's some nice stuff going on, but they're a long way from release so it's kind of dumb to get too stoked about it yet.

EDIT: The only thing I'm really doing is attempting to make money. I say attempt because I've been having too much fun assembling transmog sets of gear and dailies just barely keep up.

Thankfully I finally got a full set of PvP gear on my rogue so I'm not too worried about gold for enchants and gems.

What? Home page?

The news page for the Wow side hasn't been updated for a while, but it's only been in the past month that it's gotten really bad. I didn't notice right away, mostly because the news team has been so good at keeping new stories popping up there, so I stopped paying as much attention to it.

We've never been a news site the way MMO has been though.

You know, the page it takes you to if you click on that button that's labeled "Home". I may be messed up by using the Chinese client though. Smiley: wink

I'm sure many admins here work hard and weren't necessarily given much input on certain moves at ZAM. I'll leave it there.

Try to combine those two. Set aside a tab or two in a guild bank, collect and sell sets. Was surprisingly good money for all the effort that goes into scanning the AH once or twice a day and buying pieces.

Jessie Cox just posted the Pandarian Dances. Both are a little bit of awesome.

Those are pretty good. I mean that Carameldansen's done in a way that looks physically possible (unlike the various meme versions), though the speed of it makes my abs ache in sympathy.

Excellent dance choices, but holy **** do they need to update the animations for all the other races or this is going to look ridiculous.

I mean, just look at them...

I don't know if I'd call either of those "excellent dance choices".

That may also be because the biggest ****** at work loves to play LMFAO's song EVERY. DAY. FOR 8+ MONTHS.

Well, yeah, that song doesn't rank high on my hit list, but shuffling is pretty cool.

Wow, has it really been that way since the 8th? Man, I must have negative ranks in my perception skill or something. Smiley: laugh

It happens when you reset your password Smiley: grin It's a failsafe in case someone hacked an admin's account and wanted to go on a banning spree; you need one of the higher ups to boost you back to admin.I freaked out a few months back too.

Speaking of which, OMG, I'm red again! Smiley: tongue

Edit: 'Course, there could have been something going down I just don't know about us. Us news team folks are pretty isolated from the forum admins.

There is some neat stuff being announced, account wide achieves, cross server play etc.

There seems to some grumblings from healers on mana cost vs mana regen. I am not in the beta myself this time though. If we had a firm release date and I was hearing that level of complaint I would be concerned, however it is a beta so you have to give them a chance.

Sounds like what we were dealing with in early every expansion.

You'd think they'd have ditched the whole mana efficiency concept by now.

Growing pains.

Vanilla & TBC you saw raid healing that was built around 40/25 man raiding which included 6-8 healers, each healing class had a niche but as a team they meshed well and played on each others strengths and weaknesses.

WotLK introduced 10 man raiding where you had 2 healers, perhaps 3 for certain Hardmodes. Certain class combos were clearly superiour, for example Paladin/Druid had a good mix of AOE vs Single target heals. A group with Shaman/Shaman healing would have a significantly more difficult time downing the same content. Then you had stat inflation to the point that mana was only an issue on the type of fights that only 1% of the player base were working on.

Cata saw Blizzard take significant steps in homogenizing healers to resolve the 10 man issue. It also saw healers take a significant hit in terms of healing output and mana regen. However by the end of the expansion healing had been reduced to "spam your aoe heal on CD and use filler heals when low on mana". There were some definite growing pains, issues with mastery for most healers & also the issue of balancing healers against LFR/Normal/HM difficulties.

It will be interesting where MoP takes it. With a cap your mana pool they get to limit one of the variables on resource control. They had already implemented longer cast times for base heals in Cata which cut down on spam and tried to force clutch/triage healing. I think that the main issue is that they have yet to find balance in TERD damage in a raid environment. With their need to make content accessible it is either AOE heal friendly meaning you just stack & spam or else it is negligible to the point that you can ignore it in LFR/Normal or just insta kills you in HM if you take 3 ticks as opposed to 1-2 so it no longer becomes a healing issue.
