Looks like it also possible to put your account on a break if you talk to Customer support. IE: Tell them you have financial hard ship and you wanna stop paying for a few mos.

I asked them to clarify if my account will suffer in any way, even outlining specific scenarios (will i get bad standing, will it get banned) and the general (as well as specific) answer was no. I even asked the guy to verify this which he went away and did whilst he put me on hold to do it.
Take it for what it's worth - he told me they can't remove it, but that was something I never asked him about directly, he just mentioned it whilst discussing some other aspect of the call. I'm sure if I had asked them specifically can they remove it, this is why that it may have gone a different route.
edit: I'm keeping my annual pass anyway, I just am not able to add game-time until 6th January due to unexpected turn of events.
I ran into a few other posts where peeps say the managed to get out of it, Blizz doesn't seem **** enough to care. I'm sure if tons of peeps were they would though.
And btw I HAVE been to Catholic school and the nuns do love their rulers...
