...but, she ended up with one anyway. I just recently received an "invitation" to the MoP Beta, but it came to my junk mail account...

It looks legit, but I have no idea what legit really looks like, plus I haven't won anything since 1994 and don't think my luck is changing anytime soon. So, I am intrigued but also don't want my computer reduced to a spyware-bloated paperweight. Does anyone know how the Beta invites usually go out? Is it indeed live? I've been a bit out of the loop, contented to level a warlock alt while others deal with pandas and monks. Any advice is appreciated :-)

Here's an easy way to check:

1). Type this, and exactly this into your browser bar: http://us.battle.net
2). Log in using your usual UN/PW/Auth Code.
3). Go to "World of Warcraft".
4). Go to "Accounts".

If you have indeed received a Beta Invite, there will be a new WoW Account listed, under "Beta". There will also be a download link.

Method #2:

1). Go to www.worldofwarcraft.com.
2). Go to the Forums.
3). Go to the Beta Forums.
4). Log On with your usual BNET UN/PW/Auth if needed.

If you can post in there, you were invited to Beta. Go to your BNET account and download your Beta client!

If you cannot post in the forums and if you do not have a Beta WoW Account, you were NOT invited yet.

Do not open that link, even if it appears legit.

Edit: BTW the REAL email (I received one) has lots of images (it is not plain text) and has no links at all, except to the forums, posting guidelines, and the forum Code of Conduct.

There is no, I repeat, no "Log In Here" or "Go Here to Install" links. None in the official email.

Edit2: There are also no "Beta Keys" or anything like that. If you were invited to the Beta, a new Beta Account is automatically added to your BNET account system and nothing is required on your part to "activate" the Beta. All you need to do is log onto your BNET account and follow the instructions on how to download and install the Beta client.

This is the best way to do it IMO. Also, this is they way I did it myself (and, as with the SC2 beta, I received my invitation via email some time after I downloaded the game and started playing XD. So best go and check your BNet account now. Oh, and I don't need to tell you to neverEVER click a link when you aren't sure the source is 150% legit.

Thanks to both of you for the replies-- great information! I checked my account settings and, sadly, I am not actually in the Beta. I take some consolation in the fact that I didn't click on any links (it really did look pretty authentic Smiley: disappointed), but I don't know if I could have held out forever...

Forum=21 is still my favorite Wow site Smiley: nod Thanks for your help!

Having gotten legit MoP and Diablo 3 beta invites recently(as well as decent numbers of non-legit ones), the easiest way to tell the legit from the non-legit is in whether they tell you to click a link. The legit ones have instructions telling you to go to Battle.net, with no link.

Try going into your graphic settings in the game and change your view distance to "fair" - it's a known issue.

Or stop grouping with giant pink pandas.

They are if we don't stop the terminator from killing John Connor.
