The best way I've found to get eggs is to to find a spot you don't have to move from, but can easily get 3-4 eggs. This only works if there are many moving about, the respawn for certain clusters should be quick.

I did not find it fun to compete in prime time.

I decided to go ahead and grind for the mount on my Tauren Paladin, I just couldn't resist the image. Due to a bad CPAP night, I was on at 0500 in Falconwing Square -- the only player there since there are next to no Horde on the server. My CPH (tm) wasn't much better than yours, I was roughly keeping pace with respawns without using Egg Rush (listening to it gets tiresome after awhile).

Give yourself a bit of extra time. Check the calendar, but at least here Noblegarden ends at midnight and you might not be able to complete turn ins after that. Falconwing Square may be the best of the grinds, but a few hundred chocolate is a *lot* of egg chasing, even if you have it all to yourself.

My warlock has had the Violet proto for quite some time now but being my mount collector I wanted this for him. Goldshire was abysmal, Kharanos was meh, Azure didn't seem to have a lot of people but spawn locations made it hard to get a circuit going and just didn't find much. Dolonar was my win spot. There were quite a few people there but I still got a pretty good rate of haul. I think it took 5-6 hours total, the first 2 of which were mostly spent traveling place to place, to get my 500.

My wife wanted it on her pally and isn't really on a ton usually so I got her from the 137 she was at to 500 the other night in about 2 hours using the same method.

Yes, people camp spots but hey don't always pay attention. I just ran a circuit around the main tree/building and over to the flight place, hovering the cursor around the spawn spots.

These holiday grinds do suck though. A lot. And if not for the mount I would never have bothered. I don't see why they couldn't add a bunch of different zones for something like this or reduce the ridiculous number of chocolates required. Once I got my drake on the Lock, I pretty much swore off holiday stuff except for specific pets or mounts.Usually that just means queuing for the holiday boss but apparently they haven't extended that philosophy to all of them.

I managed to finish off the meta achievement on 6 characters by Tues afternoon plus I got the full 500 chocolates for the mount for my main (without getting a single elegant dress drop for that achievement). I did have Sun-Tue off but all three of those days had big spots of time that were taken up by non-wow stuff like family Easter, shopping, laundry and a medical appt that took up about 3 hours of time when you include the travel time. I'd say that 3 of those 6 characters did have parts of the meta already done from previous years but the other 3 were starting totally from scratch. I only ground out the mount on one of those and I didn't see a mount from an egg at all.

Having three accounts made a lot of the travel stuff easier since I could dual and triple box. I have a few Alliance characters that I shipped down to Booty Bay to get a few easy bunny maker zaps out of the way. I just wasn't seeing a lot of other Alliance traveling around through Booty Bay though so I ported my lowbies up to Dalaran and was able to get all of my Alliance zaps out of the way over time. Having the Sandstone drake on two characters made it easy to get my lower characters to Un'goro for that achievement and for the flower planting one as well (and picked up the Silithus flight path on the two who didn't have it.)

The egg farming wasn't too bad though I really did try to avoid doing it at peak hours. My server is very unbalanced with a low Horde population that makes raiding suck but that also makes events like this one not too bad. My favored town is Falconwing Square since I know 90%+ of the spawn points for the eggs. I think the same travel form Cheetah was there every time I went. Every time I encountered some campers who would sit at one spot and monopolize the eggs around them but I managed to grab a few in passing. I find that running around seems to get me a lot more eggs than sitting in one place and even when there were more people, the respawn seemed faster so it still went okay. I think after all the egg farming, I ended up with three extra Bunny pets. I had deleted the first one I got on my main thinking they were still bop but was a bit glad on them being boe since one of my alts didn't get one so I was able to send him one so he could go find other bunnies to play with. I had a little trouble finding people with bunny pets out in some towns so I ended up dual boxing that too after hanging around Razor Hill long enough to gather about 50 eggs (that I needed for the eating achievement anyways) while looking for another bunny for my bunny to get friendly with.

The hardest part for me was doing the bunny maker achievement. Getting lowbies somewhere that Alliance hang out wasn't easy and Dalaran is pretty deserted most of the time though it seemed like a number of people were going there for the same purpose so I managed to get my Alliance bunnies made. The Horde ones gave me a bit more trouble mainly because it was pretty late on Monday when I finally got my Alliance ones out of the way and with a low Horde population it was hard to find a few of the races (undead and orcs mainly).

I haven't tried to do Noblegarden on my Alliance alts and I'm a bit scared to even try. The Alliance population on my server is huge and I've heard people talking about 100+ people in Goldshire. I don't play Alliance much so missing out isn't a huge deal but if I do, it will probably be tonight or tomorrow.

I got lucky and got a mount on ~ my 300th egg. Not sure, I was doing the other achievements along the way. I still have the finish up Shake Your Bunny Maker with some Alliance toons for the meta, but really, I had no trouble with most of it.

Hey, a fellow apnea-sufferer! My sympathy on the bad night, they happen every once in a while.

I decided to give a couple of my Alliance alts a stab at the meta (not worrying about mount for them) Wed and Thurs evenings. I didn't even go look at Goldshire or Kharanos, but took the first one straight to Dolanaar. Having never done it in that place before, it took me a little bit of running around to see what kinds of places they use for egg spawns and I soon realized that they often spawn inside of the shrubberies where you really can't see them even looking straight down other than a hint of pastel blue color. Once I got the hang of the area, it wasn't too bad and I found it amusing to watch other people run right by shrubs with eggs inside them. Still, having to cursor over shrubs instead of relying mainly on my eyes was much more tedious than egg farming in Falconwing.

I took my other Alliance alt to Azure Watch which in some ways was a bit better than Dolanaar but was definitely more crowded. It's a much more compact area so eggs tend to be closer together but I am still not sure whether they spawn in the semi-indoor areas or what. I mainly ran loops around the perimeter which netted me a couple hundred eggs over a couple of hours over the two days. I found egg spawns in the center near the quest givers too but it seemed like the campers preferred that spot so I quit checking there. I think Azure Watch would be better than Dolanaar except for there being a lot more people in the compact space.

I basically ended up farming 205 eggs on each one of them to cover the pet (neither of which got it as a drop) and the egg to hide in SW and 100 left over to eat for the Chocoholic achievement. I did manage to get all of the other items needed for the meta plus the ones for getting the tux and dress from eggs (which my main is still lacking for the dress). I got both of them close to finishing the bunny maker achievement as well and I am hoping to spend some time on Saturday in Dalaran looking for a female Orc. I did realize last night that if I really get desperate, I do have one empty slot on one of my accounts that I could make a female Orc DK on and mage port it to Dal.

... so i got the mount on my warrior, but just can't see me doing it again on my DK. So I can say I did the grind once. And yea...i had to get all 500 candies -.-

Thank goodness that hideous grind is over!

I managed to get the meta achieve on my main and 4 of my alts, the lowest of which was only level 40. I got a strider for each of my 7 characters as well. On the final day a strider dropped from an egg - on my lowest level character, naturally. By Saturday night I didn't figure it was worth the energy to run my lvl 37 to Un'Goro, and I didn't feel like harassing my guildies to show up with a blossoming branch, so I gave up on getting her the meta achieve (and she still hadn't found the pants from an egg) but both my lowbies managed the Chocoholic achieve. (So less work next year, assuming I'm still playing and they don't change the holiday.)

Farming the eggs was a nightmare. I've got BAD lag (not fixable - it's my satellite service, and they're the only game in town) so even when folks were far away and opening other eggs, they'd manage to make it over to my egg and steal it out from under me even when I'd clicked on it long before them. I tried running around for about a half hour on the first day. That netted me all of one or two eggs. Finally I gave up and camped. By the third day, things had lightened up enough so that I could run around again, and that definitely got me more eggs than camping.

Dolanar I didn't even bother with. Too hard to see the eggs, and with my lag I didn't have time to search for them. Azure Watch was busy but doable, and Kharanos was actually the quietest area (other than Dolanar). Goldshire was a disaster. Every single egg spawn had at least one camper, often more. That lasted right up to the end of Noblegarden.

What ticked me off the most about this holiday is that it became all about greed and beating out the next person, rather than having fun. I agree with the idea of spreading the eggs over an entire zone, or doing it the way Archaeology works. (Or both, since even if they're your own eggs, it would be more of an adventure to locate them across the whole zone.) The way it is now, it's more like a job than a game. Yes I realize I didn't NEED to get the strider mount on all my characters, and that I probably didn't need the meta on all of them either, but...hey I want my characters to have the nifty stuff even if they aren't my main.

That said, the one thing I WAS grateful for is the fact that this is the fist meta I could complete on my main since I came back to the game in October. She's only level 79 now. (I've been going slow because I only finally got Cata this past month.) So level 85 instances have been out, and thank GODS this one didn't have a PVP achieve, since with my lag I can't hope to PVP.

But on the whole, thumbs down. Bliz really needs to rethink this holiday. (And preferably rethink the other ones that insist on PVP, which I personally hated even back when I had decent internet.)

@Lemurcat:

TBH, while gaming, Dial-up would give you better latency than Satellite, except you are more prone to getting disconnected and your bandwidth is much smaller.

But to be honest, while doing something like gaming, dial-up beats satellite. Though I suppose that also depends on how far away from your dial-in server you live. My GF used to tell stories of 1800ms pings with her satellite connection, and I know that even on Dial-up, I'd have no more than 300-400ms pings to yahoo, google, and the like back when I once used that.

But then, not all ISPs give you a backup dialup service, I know some do, some don't.

Lyrailis, thanks, but dial-up isn't an option. The nearest phone and electric lines are about 1/2 mile away and the cost of bringing them to us is about $25K. (NOT in the budget.)

We live off the grid in the middle of nowhere. Electric comes from a generator, and the only possible internet/tv is the satellite.
