So I have noticed that the boards here are just plain dead. I wonder if this is due to the fact that the game is just too plain easy at this point. You really don't have much to think about anymore at all.

What do you folks think?

The bulk of reference content was moved to WoWHead. I'd imagine that the overall traffic to Zam was greatly reduced by this. Fewer people, fewer posters, more cake for the regulars.

The cake was a lie, we're doing the pie thing now.

Also, the boards die out during the later stages of an expansion. Been like that since as far back I can remember.

Nah... Really need quality over quantity, else you might as well start hanging out on the o-boards. I'm actually enjoying the peace around here now. Less stupid repeat questions, and a lot less flaming because of them.

We've tried in the past to do activities such as User submitted stories, user submitted blogs etc. They work in the short term, but the supply always dried up really quickly.

If you have content or something that you'd like to contribute, let me know, we're always looking to involve people more.

I think a lot of the reduced traffic is due to the large number of resources for players to consult. There are tons of blogs, forums, guides, etc. on the web for people to find answers to their questions. Back in the old days, vanilla and BC, more people came here to simply ask questions. Over time, it has shifted to complaining about PuGs, etc., in part because the questions get answered elsewhere. There is a core group of people (and lurkers :-)) here that like to talk about the latest patch notes, etc., but the influx of new posters has slowed a lot over time. I don't think it has much to do with the game being "plain easy" at all. There's just a lot of other places to get info.

I still see a good number of new players asking the same kinds of questions I once asked. Which spec is best for me, is this piece of gear better, where should I level a 56 hunter, etc. etc. I kind of figure the game is 'too easy' for me simply because I've been playing it for years.

I came to Allakhazam for the database and only later found the forums. Years later, I am still here on the forums but the database that brought me here is gone. I'm guessing that many newer users don't find us here because there are less signposts pointing them this way.

Yeah that's how I came here too Morg. I was looking for info on my black mage back in my short lived FFXI days. Started posting, went to the asylum and got scared off, then I came back when I started playing WoW.

I suspect most of the posters don't even play WoW anymore.

Then again, I really only frequent the Bored Druid Thread and the cross-site forums, so that could be why...

Yeah my WoW playing comes and goes these day's. I just hang around for the peeps that post here. Even if it's less frequent than it used to be.

MMO's need some new hotness. Something to breath fire back into the genre. If that will come to pass I cannot say. But hopefully it does and we can all post about it.

There is a change that Wowhead can't really make, but ZAM could restore some function to this site by making it a site specific feature. Wowhead is starting to get cluttered with comments that have no bearing on the game as it is today and I wonder if that also influences statistical data there. Try reading the entry for Savory Deviate Delight and you'll see what I mean.

Why couldn't Alla be given the (much smaller) database for a given expansion and allowed to host a cleaner, more focused version of the information it once offered? Need to know all about Savory Deviate Delight? Go to Wowhead. Want just a quick idea of how the drop rate is currently? Come to Alla.

I think the level of activity dropped before the Wowhead switch. I could be wrong, but I don't think of wowhead as a great discussing place.

Some of the WoWhead comments are useless, but for the most part its kept in pretty good check. Like any other community, its important for those who use it to contribute. Sometimes contributing means down rating bad or useless posts.

I also noticed WoWHead has been stepping up the moderation of rare drops. A lot of the boss pages now include notices that information like "haha got it to drop 2nd time" and "200 times and no drop" will be removed by the moderators.

You can filter wowhead information by patch, so it's actually pretty easy to know what is current and what isn't

The switch was because almost nobody used ZAM's database and everyone used the WoWhead one, so the change really wasn't much of a change.

I was one of the few then, I prefer one stop shopping when it comes to my game info. I mean if I really need to know something I know there's more info out there. But the DB that was here would tell me without going elsewhere what something would DE into, if it was a world drop or something that drops all the time yada yada. Now that's gone and I mostly just don't bother. Quest info too, being on a cell based internet I didn't want all the addons adding to what was being used, when I ran into a quest I just couldn't figure out I'd pop out here. The need for that is pretty well gone with the in-game quest helper that even highlights the area of the map you do it in...

I had stopped playing WoW at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, working full time and going to school just takes up a lot of my time at the moment.

Here, I’m gonna say it “CATA KILLED THE FUN”, nothing to do with easy.

Most posters here quit playing, my kids quit, and my ingame friends quit (waiting for 4.3). So let’s hope next expansion is coming out very soon so we can forget about that half dead dragon that nobody cares about.

Rawdeal I have to agree with you on that. Cata just isn't that great. The worry that I have is whether a new expansion will actually re-invigorate that player base. I am just not sure that doing more collection quests, and killing the elite are going to lure people back. I would be interested in new races or new mechanics.

The Talent Trees being so short and simple sort of turns me off. I want to make some hard choices in my build, as well as see some different viable builds within each spec.

Not exactly an obvious feature, nor does that negate the point I was making.

I still say LFG 'killed' the game as much as anything has.

On the other hand, the game is anything but dead, but a lot of people on this site were here early on, and you can only play the game for so long before it gets a little bit boring, so it's not surprising that people would trail off.
