Occulus Changes Again. Oh my!Follow

I've only done occulus a few times and that was with guildies so no problems with people not knowing what to do (other than myself), I wouldn't drop out if I got occulus as a random, but I can't say it's the one I'd pick for myself. Basically becuse vehicle combat bugs me, it messes up my interface (I have it working passably now, but not as smoothly as just playing my character) and it's not exactly demanding with the number of abilities you get, even classes which have only a couple of dps buttons to press have cooldowns or watching threat etc to make things slightly more interesting. I also find the movement rather clunky, land based vehicles don't turn very well and with air based ones I find it hard sometimes to judge my altitude compared to the rest of the group/what I'm fighting.

I think the addition of vehicles wasn't all bad, but for me the fights get old really quick, and doing the fight on any of my alts will play exactly the same as doing it on my main.

i will run it once on each of my 80's now just to get the achiement finally and to get the extra loot, other then that....its still not fun.

If they removed the vehicle part of the instance and re-worked it entirely i would be interested, but they will not do that, and i prefer not to spend my game time in there.

Another Oculus hotfix (Source: MMO Champion)

Quote:
The Oculus had some additional changes made. The Planar Anomlies during the Eregos encounter will have a shorter duration and do reduced damage, some of the drakes above Varos’s platform have been removed, and the drakes controlled by players will move a little faster.

If this had been the first thing they had put in, they wouldn't have needed to make the other changes. Unless its like...a 1% speed increase.

Okay, The first change seems unnecessary. The damage of the orbs was pretty low as it was, so that doesn't really change much. I've never seen someone die there.

I like the drakes being less abundant, but its still annoying. If your group had half a brain, you only needed to kill 2 or 3 per platform anyway. So you'll either still need to kill 2 or 3, or now have to kill 1 or 2... that's like, what, a minute off each run?

As for Drakes moving faster... Makes the final fight SUPER easy, when it was already pretty simple. Otherwise, just shaves another bit of time off an already fast instance.

Heres hoping they dont nerf the Drake droprate. Two people in my guild have won it already. Sadly I done Oculus today, after my obligatory OK and HoS runs (seriously, done those 2 dungeons 8 times in 3 days with random dungeon) but I didnt manage to win a drake.

This is a good question, since the drop rate on it is actually probably really low at the moment.

Assuming you are geared enough that no instances are removed from the random queue, there are 16 possibly dungeons you can enter from the queue. Due to specific queuing, 4 of these are more likely than others, to varying degrees.

But, assuming for the sake of it that Occ is just as equal as all the others, that's a 6.25% chance to get it for each queue.

Now there's the chance that the group will fall apart before you start, or shortly into it. That further reduces the chance for you to finish the instance. But, for the sake of argument, we'll assume you finish all runs you are placed into.

If the reins had a 50% drop rate (which is probably way higher than what it actually has), that is still an extremely low chance to receive it per queue, considering you only have a chance for it when you are placed into Occ randomly. Let's use math I'm pretty sure is illegal and say you have a 3.125% chance to get it per queue. Even if they changed the drop rate to 25%, due to Occ already only having a 6.25% chance to be chosen, that would only drop the rate to (prob. illegal math) 1.5625%.

And considering that groups WILL fall apart, and Occ probably is less likely, we could guesstimate the chance to get the drake per random is pretty damn low as it is.

Every person that entered randomly gets their own bag.

I caught it today on my priest. I Got 2 emblems and a monarch topaz in the bag. Others in the group got a blue gem and 2 emblems as well.

Still was a pretty painful group though lol. Nobody knew what they were doing on the dragons.

We ran this last night. A loud groan went up on vent. My buddies didn't know about the new loot and it convinced them to stay for kicks.

One red, one green, and three amber drakes. Ambers nuke. Red spams damage and hits evasion at 5 charges. Green heals. Time-stop at enrages. Fly away at phasing. Piece of cake. And now our guild jewelcrafter is giddy with a ton of new gems.

It's definitely worth it to stay if you have a JC that you care about. The extra badges are nice too.

Cheers,
Jorge
