On a side note, I find it interesting that a few people have called this contest another "US only" one. It's not. This time other countries were included, but if yours wasn't you can blame one of these factors: Your country of residence is not supported by the North American client; or your country of residence has laws which prevented you from being eligible to take part in the giveaway.
Keep in mind this post was written by someone who's ineligible for many contests despite the fact he's a US resident.
Oh, I know and it's okay. I blame whoever wrote the law that states that contests mustn't require people to purchase anything to participate. It's done nothing but ruin it for a lot of people because the companies providing the contests are afraid their contests fall under that category if only when grossly misinterpreted. That's why I couldn't participate in the Arena Tournament and use the Recruit-A-Friend thingy. Not that either required purchase since I already have the game and stuff, but if someone who owns the game but hasn't activated his account yet saw it and felt like a complete jackass, he could sue them for violation of that law. Of course, that sort of lawsuit would never fly in our court system, but, you know, better safe than sorry.
Well, it's nice to know there's at least one person who's not misinformed on this subject. My only gripe about these contests is that there are loads of misinformed people who call the company hosting a giveaway/contest greedy because their country of residence is ineligible. And as I said in my last post, greed is
hardly a factor. There are laws and procedures to which these companies must adhere.
In this contest, European residents were left out mainly because they celebrate their anniversary on a different than North American players. In my opinion that automatically dismisses the legitimacy of their complaints, because for all we know they could have an anniversary giveaway like North American players are currently having. As for people who live in ineligible countries like Australia, I can certainly sympathize—in fact, just click on the link in my signature and you can see that I'm ineligible from all ZAM contests—but the truth is you should be blaming your country's lawmakers, not the company hosting the giveaway or contest. Of course, if this is bothering to you, you can petition your government and suggest they revise their laws to allow more contests.
Sorry for carrying on my rant. This is my last one for this subject. I just wanted to get this out in the open.
