Since Hero Class seems to have little meaning, being balanced against the other classes unless they really are going to be more powerful, I don't see why they aren't keeping us at level 70 and having all classes do a quest to become a hero class. Then once a hero class have us level to 10 as that hero class, so were a 70 Paladin/10 Death Knight or whatever.

Since they already have to do 10 more talent points into every single tree, why not scrap leveling to 80, level hero classes instead and have separate hero class trees. It would be the same amount of work and balance and wouldn't change your class fundamentally. One could still use their old spells they would just have new hero class abilities gathered through 10 Hero points. Could even make it specific so if your a feral and become a Druid of the Claw you can only spend hero talent point in the Druid of the Claw tree, not in the Druid of the Moon or Druid of Life trees. Quests let you change your hero class from Druid of the Claw to Druid of the Moon etc.

with this, everyone gets to be a hero class, and still has to level, the hero class, still gets 10 more talent points, hero talents, and bliz doesn't have more work, less work actually. People won't eventually abandon their characters as all of the hero classes come out and will get to maintain and develop their main namesake.

Death Knight is rolled into the Retribution tree as its Hero Class and once you reach level 10 on your hero class you can embark on a quest that lets you create any class beginning at level 60. NOW they don't have to rebalance and change the low level content. Even less work for them.

I think part of the reason they will imba the Northrend gear (since they probably will) is so that people who are level 69 when the patch comes out aren't going to find it too hard compared to those who are 70. Although I wish there was some reason to go back to the old-world end-game content...as it is right now it seems like they've got all these raids that don't ever get used any more.

This also makes more sense because if it was race or class specific it'd be too frustrating for the players. For example if only paladins could become a death knight what about all the players that don't have a paladin? You'd have to restart a pally (and maybe you absolutely hate playing pallies) and lvl it up to the appropriate lvl to make the switch. Same thing if you only had night elves or tauren and these races couldn't be a death knight. You'd have to restart and lvl a toon just to try one out. Also what happens if you changed a class you enjoyed playing into a death knight? Could you switch back?

You basically just described the leveling cycle in FFXI lol (leveling up one class just so you can play another, so you can play another, so you can play another, etc.).

Joking aside, I would be suprised if there was not some kind of requirement on it, such as that you must have a level 80 (or maybe only 70) on your account on that server before you can start a Hero Class. It would be strange for a new player to just start as a Hero Class as their first character.

Also, I really do wonder about Blizz's decision to increase the cap to 80 so soon. I was really figuring that we would have an expansion after TBC that would give the game more life to those players who are bored at the cap, but not so quickly give them 10 more levels. If it keeps going at this pace, we will be leveling up to 100 by 2010. Most games thus far have spaced out level cap raises; usually by one or more expansions. And the expansions on those games were still great, even without a cap raise. I just hope that the level cap does not get too high, and then Blizz has to make several expansions in a row without raising it. That would be frustrating.

I think that it is important for Blizzard to expand the game so that people don't get bored as quickly as they did with instances such as Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and Naxx.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!

I do not feel that it is necessary to raise the level cap as quickly as they are planning on. Also I don't think that it is a good idea to add a new profession such as inscription, to me it gives the game WAY to much of a Diablo feeling, and personally feel that it will ruin PVP for some classes.

I do however like the addition of the Death Knight, and think that it's great that you won't just be able to create one without "unlocking" it first. I don't necessarily agree with it being "pre-leveled" because I feel that takes advantage of game play, and you'll more than likely see a bunch of people running around not knowing what to do, where if you play the character from level 1 you have a greater feel for the character and are more likely to play it better.

I also think that the addition of new instances is great, however maybe not introduce them with an expansion, just add on. There are many raiding guilds that haven't even hit "The Black Temple" yet, and many more that aren't clearing instances such as "Serpentshrine Cavern". I realize that this isn't Blizzards problem, but I do feel that they should be a little more sympathetic to the amount of raiding guilds and the lack of "TOP" guilds per server.

The expansion is going to happen no matter what any of us want. And there are going to be things that people don't like about the expansion. However people who really like the game, and want to see it expand, I feel that it will be a good experience and i'm excited about leveling to 80 (Just kinda UGH about leveling 3 characters again).

I don't think they'll release this expansion for at least another 6 months, but I could be wrong. However when they released "The Burning Crusade" they did say that they were going to try and release one expansion a year after it's release. "The Burning Crusade" is about 6 months in now, and is still going strong. I just think that Blizzard might be getting a little greedy if they start releasing to many expansions to fast.

Lets see what stuff they can bring up for the Death Knight class.

Anyone else think that it won't be that different from other classes BUT will become incredibily over-populated the first month and then cries about how OP they are will cause several consecutive nerfs/fixes ? heh.

Aside of the new continent... there isn't really much that interesting to me.

A new hairdoo and differant dance isn't going to affect in anyway my appreciation for the game. It's something to play around with a couple days, i'll grant that, but after a few days its going to be boring.

I love my mage, it farms well, hurts hard in pvp and I like my role in pve. Why would I want to cap yet another deathnight char if I am ever so rarely going to play with him? ... besides lose time on gearing up my mage.

Inscription sounds cool, but I doubt I'll drop my tailoring or enchanting as they have both proven to be great use in TBC, tailoring for hard dps gear / enchanting for that 2k gold leveling 10 levels.

I was kind of hoping to see somekind of solo content/instances, personal quests which are only doable alone, kind of like the fair you have in FF7 if you know what i mean.

I'm enjoying TBC so far but I do agree it's getting a bit repetative and need new content, however with what I have seen so far... I'm not impressed but am looking forward to hear more.

I guess I have a different way to look at the Death Knight then most people...

I don't see myself quitting on my main for a DK. I might unlock one and play it for fun, but I have a hard time playing alts - there's always so much to do on my main toon!

I know a lot of people will... and I really can't wait to see the new enviromnent (in pvp and pve) that this new class will bring.

Stickying this (at least for the time being) as I'm sure there will be increasing numbers of people (thinking about) starting threads on the matter come Monday.

If you think that's bad, try upgrading your graphics card after you made all your toons. My lock now has a completely different looking face and skin tone with my new card upgrade...she went from being a black warlock to an old lady with a tan. My previous card did not show as much facial details...although it is hilarious to see my old lady strut her stuff (I guess my new card aged her XD ). And its kind of nice that she looks a bit different.

Now, my troll lady on the other hand, looks like the millions of other female trolls out there and could use some serious plastic surgery and a new hairstyle. At the minimum, I wish she could get warpaint like the male trolls do. I don't care if it costs alot of gold or takes alot of rep or questing, please just make it possible to alter my troll's current appearance!

So what is the official Acronym for the expansion thus far?

Is it going to be WLK? WoLK? WotLK? WLK seems right, and follows the same pattern as WoW and TBC (both 3 letter acronyms). But it seems quite similar to the word Walk xD.

The new main city for Northrend will be Dalaran. The Mages are going to move it to the sky above Northrend and it will be the equivalent of Shatt for the new area. I forgot about this until reminded today and they did say they'd have to script it in before the expansion comes out. That should be interesting to see how they adjust the existing quests in the area.

There's going to be some Dragon related stuff involving the blue and red dragonflights we were told.

There's going to be some heavy content involving titans and the origin of the Dwarves. They didn't say for sure but they hinted that Uldam might be used and there will definitely be a non-ruined city like Uldaman.

We sat through the panal about the movie and while they didn't give many details, they did say the story would be about events that happened about a year before WoW and that the main focus would be from the Alliance point of view.

Today I visited the expansion content for another 20 minute session on a pre-made Rogue. I spent more time exploring and found some interesting areas and an invisible wall blocking me from going further. I also got a 'blue' drop that said it was a World drop and that it would be something cool if this wasn't Blizzcon. :P Figures I'd get a blue when it doesn't count. Still, I had fun and managed to not only kill a level 71 Wolf but killed his level 71 buddy that joined in the fight and that's not bad for a level 70 Rogue with only a few skills on the bar and only about half the talents allocated. LoL

Looking for what I can about DKs.

DKs can DW Two-handers?

Hero Classes are openable for all races? You just have to be able to unlock the quest line and complete them? Sort of like FFXI advanced jobs.

Anything about the release date? 08 sounds about right.

With the new level cap, how long do you think it will be before we see a lvl 80 Holy/Prot Pally SOLO Onyxia?

In response to mike's post:

I accidentally mis-read some of the information on the Gamespot article. The new character slot thing has been corrected.

Also, I'm sure Blizzard would like to release more than one hero class on release date, but will probably be unable to due to the aforementioned "balancing nightmare".

No, completing the quest line unlocks the Hero class for your account and then you can create a Deathknight as a new character. Your existing character gains no benefits from this aside from quest rewards and XP.
