This guide is now deprecated, and all information has been added to the Macro (WoW) wikipage. Any and all macro questions can still be asked here and will be answered, but for all macro-construction related issues see the Wiki.

Nice nice, rate ups for j00.

I read the whole thing, but I'm not sure, is there a way for me to say do something on my rogue like if I'm feared, charmed, or sleeped, use will of the forsaken, and either if WotF is down OR I'm polymorphed, activate my PvP Trinket instead?

And if not, how about just one that will use my Insignia when WotF is down, and vise versa?

The short answer to both is "no, not really". The slightly longer answer I'll get to in a moment.

There's no way to use a cooldown conditional (i.e. there is no [isready] conditional) that would allow you to see if X trinket is up, if not do Y. There is also no [isfeared] conditional, for example. I need to edit in a few notes about that, now that you mention it.

You can, however, jury-rig the process by using the /castrandom command - i.e. /castrandom Insignia of the Horde, Will of the Forsaken will randomly select between the two. However, since WotF can be triggered preemptively (and it may not remove the effect you want it to) this macro is far from perfect - and if you keep hitting it the macro may well use both abilities, whether you want it to or not.

I'm not sure about the sticky part, since there have been lots of great guides first put in as posts, and Alla restricts the number of stickies per forum. I'd prefer that this be submitted to Darqflame for inclusion into the "Guides" section.

Still, a rate-up!

Maybe Mike should provide a link to it in his FAQ, Kao says that he will not make another sticky since we have exceeded our limit.

Already done. I replaced the "Macros are broken" question.

Nice guide.

Question - is it possible to make a macro for grinding that will Sinister Strike unless I'm at 5 combo points OR my target is under 20% health?

I asked on the Macro forum but the responses I got were useless - telling me I was trying to cheat or something :(

Also, I'm guessing that you use a Mac (I do at work). I've had problems a few times where for some reason it sees a ' as a ? ... but it only ever happened to me when I was working with Word docs.

One macro I ve been playing with for a hunter is to change aspect dependant on situation used. Eg. Aspect of hawk when using bow and aspect of monkey when in combat used to use

/cast aspect of monkey; /cast attack

/cast apsect of hawk; /cast autoshot

This used to work but now when changing aspect it activates a global cooldown on all skills. Is there away of still do this or does the global cool down mean I will have to hit the button twice?

i'm pretty sure that is exactly the type of thing the new system was designed to prevent, hence the backlash on the oboards.

Sadly, no. There is no conditioner to check for combo points, although I'm hoping that one will be added, and there's no conditioner to check for the HP of your target. (If there were, an Execute macro would be considerably more... functional).

Yep, I moved it to Textpad and it's been working fine.

Well, you can use;

/cast Aspect of the Hawk
/attack

Since the /attack should now toggle between autoshot and autoattack based upon how far you are from the target automatically. Neither attack nor autoshot should be effected by the global cooldown in any way.

Very nice!

I have a small addition for everyone who is a sad panda that decursive doesn't work anymore:

/cast [target=mouseover] Remove Lesser Curse

You can replace this with Dispel Magic of course.

How to use?
Well, you simply move your mouse over the cursed people in your raid display (standard UI, X-Perl, whatever) or avatars without clicking on them. So you don't lose your current target. Then hit the macro. If a target is not cursed, you won't cast ("Nothing to dispel"), saving you the GCD and Mana. The only strange thing is, you have to click your own avatar for it to work, mouseover seems to work differently on yourself.

This macro in action on Noth looks something like this:
Noth curses a bunch of people.
"OMG! HALP!"
You move your mouse over cursed people one by one in the raid display while hammering this macro.
Done.

(And I even capitalised this post for easy addition into your nicely layouted guide)

I am looking for a macro that uses my trinket (Gri'lek's Charm of Might) and after using it, immediatly equip a different trinket. The trinket does not put you in combat, so it should be possible to equip another trinket before the fight starts. I wonder if something like this works:
/equipslot [13] Gri'lek's Charm of Might
/stopcasting
/use Gri'lek's Charm of Might
/stopcasting
/unequipslot [13] Gri'lek's Charm of Might
/stopcasting
/equipslot [13] Hand of Justice
/stopcasting
/cast Charge

There is no [] around the slot number... I'll have to make that more clear in my guide. It should be;

/equipslot 13 Gri'lek's Charm of Might

But you should remember that all trinkets have a 30-second 'spin-up' time before you can use them... which means that you'd have to have the Charm of Might equipped beforehand, and have a way to swap it into that slot whenever it's around 30 seconds from being ready. (I suggest relying on Itemrack for this, since I don't know of any elegant way to do that). However... that kind of a macro _should_ work.

/use Gri'lek's Charm of Might
/equipslot 13 Hand of Justice
/cast Charge

SHOULD be all you need. Let me know how it works.

two additions:

1. the decursive macro is less automated and requires more thought. but by that, i'd say it's better than decursive, not worse. because you can choose in which order you decurse, without having to set it beforehand and by situation without it being fixed.
have two decursers in the group? one does the group, the other goes cross-raid.
you can also do things like going for healers first, instead of priests and druids (which may not be healers, i.e. shadow or feral).

2. the join battlefield as a group does not work anymore. i tried it several times but it was hotfixed out with 2.0.3 or so. whichever it was on Jan 9.

Here's a macro I like on my Priest. It can be modified for any of the single target vs. group buff users such as mages and druids.

#show Sacred Candle
/cast [modifier:ctrl] Prayer of Fortitude; Power Word: Fortitude

First, it shows the number of candles I have left on the button when you drag it to your action bars.

Second, if I hold the Ctrl key while clicking, it will cast the group buff, otherwise it will cast the single target Fortitude on my current target.

Nice writeup, rateup for RpZip!

Now here's a question.

Here's my macro:

/cast Resurrection
/s Resurrecting %t

Very simple - start casting Res and announce who it's for. However, sometimes the Res fails, because the target is out of line of sight or out of range. So I might move a few steps and click the macro again, and to me it becomes very spammish to continue announcing when only the last time I clicked the macro did the Res actually cast.

Is there a way to stop the macro using /stopmacro [conditional] if the Res doesn't actually start?
