I am a European player on Kul'Tiras and would like to join North American friends on their server Lethon. Is this possible? The server selections seem to be European only for me. If so how? Can a lvl60 character be transfered from European to NA server? Thanks.

no, you can't play on american servers with the european version.

you can buy an american version and install it as well, but that means you need to have an american address on your credit card or you get american game cards. the latter is probably possible through your american friends.

you will then have to start another char. transfer is not possible across versions, afaik.

QFT. At one point I was considering something similar for one of my characters but unfortunately it isn't possible.

Something of note, although I haven't been able to confirm or find it, my guild leader (who is pretty reliable for info) said earlier that blizzard made some big changes to their ToS... among things in BGs like afk'ing at the start is something about where you can play WoW on what client. So, like your account WILL be banned if you log on in say EU from an NA account or vice versa. Or like China on NA servers (I think he said China but can't remember...) you get the picture.

He said he read it on blizzard's forums, in general so of course unless it was a sticky I missed when I looked it'll be very hard to find most likely. Indeed, like I said, when I looked for it I couldn't find it. However, something else he said about the changes and AFK'ing in BGs seems to be true, as I called a GM on some people earlier and actually a GM to respond and he said he'd be trying to contact the people to see if they were really AFK after asking me about it. Whether they actually got banned for a day or anything I obviously don't know, however just the fact the GM responded to me and said he'd get in touch with them makes me believe it is true. Plus, AFK'ers in AV are getting really low in numbers (if not gone totally) now also.

You need an EU credit card to play with the EU version on the EU servers? It makes sense except... they sell the EU version as well as the US version here in Quebec, Canada. I don't think they would require people to get a credit card and mailing adress from overseas? :p

But then I don't know because I got the US version.

I heard this also Tomec. I've also heard about an o-board post that had posts in it deleted from blizzard, about this very thing.

Many people are very unhappy with the possibility of this new change and will pbbly be canceling their accounts (against their will) because of it. =(

I can't access the official site at the moment, but someone quoted the new part of the ToS( for the US) in another community I'm in as follows:

You may only access the Service from within the territorial boundaries of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore. Any access to your Account, whether by you or anyone else, from any location outside those countries is a breach of this Agreement.

This is just hearsay so I can't confirm that this is the exact wording. No idea if there's a corresponding rule in place for the European servers. It seems harsh to me. I know plenty of people play on the US servers from Europe and vice versa - why should they be punished? Apparently it's to try to cut down on gold farmers based in China, but I would have thought there would be ways which don't penalise legitimate customers.

Are you talking about this section from the Terms of Use?

Quote:
1. Eligibility.

You represent that you reside in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Singapore, and that you are an adult in your country of residence. You agree to these Terms of Use on behalf of yourself and, at your discretion, for one (1) minor child for whom you are a parent or guardian and whom you have authorized to use the account you create on the Service.

The section is not new. It has been in place for a long time.

edit: hmmmm. if Blizz enforces the ToU, they could ban Chinese and Indian IPs from NA servers. Think of the impact on RMT (sounds delicious!).

edit edit: hmmm again, could someone post the equivalent section from the European ToU? It would be interesting to see what it says.

There was a thread about this on the VN boards, supposedly you can no longer access WoW US from outside the areas of service.

People have been saying it has driven up the price of RMT gold, I'll just cry myself to sleep over that.

I've got a friend I know who plays from the UK and he's online right now, so... I doubt it.

EDIT: Forget RMT, quite a few people I know play from Europe to be with friends they've made who play from the US.
