Hi, I was planning on buying wow for Christmas, but I don't know everything about it.

1.How many expansions are there.
2.Do I need all of them to play
3.Are expansions meant for higher lvls? Or will it affect me early on in the game.
4.Can I skip some expansions and buy later ones?

There are currently no expansion until January.

No.

I doubt it.

The expansion coming out in January is for level 60's to progress to level 70, so it does not effect you very much until then. Though there are the 2 new races they are introducing in the expansion and a new profession which are things that you can use without having a 60. Oh yeah, and flying mounts which are only available in the new 60-70 zones.

They plan on making a new expansion each year, or something like that.

But as it stands right now, it might be best to just try free 30-day trial first to see if you like it, then go from there.

If there are no expansions yet, what are all the differnet WoW things i see in stores like frozen throne? Or are those for the regular warcraft?

Frozen Throne is the Warcraft 3 expansion, and it's pretty good. :)

I'd recommend downloading the WoW trial from www.worldofwarcraft.com or buying the $1 trial disc from a game store. You can upgrade it to a full version later and keep your same characters.

When I purchased my copy of WoW I received a voucher for a free month that you can give to a friend. Ask your friends/coworkers/family to see if they may have one. A lot of game stores in my area give the trials away for free :D

You should get the trial account and start leveling right away. With the expansion coming out in January, you are actually getting a late start. But if you are in school, you can play day and night during winter break and level up pretty fast. If you have a job, you can take vacation or just call in sick for a month. When I started WOW, I only slept 3 hours a night the first month. Your results may vary, but plan ahead to handle the addiction.

A slight correction. The Burning Crusade is not just for level 60's (although the outlands are a big part of it). There are two new races and four new lowbie areas as well. As far as flying mounts go, you have to be level 70 to get one. You can go to outland as a level 58 and survive quite nicely - the mobs on Hellfire peninsula are 58-62.
