I think they should be PvP rewards. Or something like that. I loved having those ranks, and I think Blizz should incorporate them back into the game... but for nothing other than show.

I guess they could make a relative system, a ladder, with how many honor points earned/spent or something, and that that affects your ranking?

Or perhaps a purchaseable title - though that would obviously diminish some of the value.

A rating system would be another option, though I'm sure guilds would attempt to abuse such a system (Though obviously, if everyone participates, a single guild will have little impact). For example you give everyone a karma point each day, that they can give to someone (or something like that). And that will earn you titles.

I think the idea of purchasing ranks is plausible.

I'd like to see options and possibly titles for things other than PvP. Maybe like Dragonslayer if you've turned in both ony's and nef's head. Hmm... Dragonslayer Bentacore... That has a nice ring to it.

wow...i freakin love that idea! City of Villains had titles like that, they were called badges. For example, if you killed 50 "Arachnos Spiders" or w/e then you got some neato title like "Exterminator" or something. They should do that for WoW, of course though make the kill-counts higher and tie it in with quests too. They could also have discovery badges, in CoV there was this big tree and if you went to it you got the badge "Tree Hugger"!

They will introduce new titles when BC comes out. There will be some directly related to your success in the Arena system and others that have yet to be announced.

In regards to the old PVP ranks... personally I'd like to see them remain untouched to at least let the people ground ranks the old way retain some distinction from the people who will get the same gear in a fraction of the time. It's a minor memento at least of a broken system :P

I personally don't care for the ranks. The ranks introduced in TBC might be cool, but all the current ones do for me is say "Hey, i'm Grand Marshal, and I got this title from selling my soul to Wow and pvping for 20 hours a day!" That is just my opinion though.

Plus, I just like Itsgonnrain.

I like that I get the option to not show my PvP rank. Especially with my druid that has PvPed like 4 times and had the lowest rank tag stuck on him forever.

While the shift to the new Honor system will 'lock' a certain number of titles, it will not remove them completely.

In fact, we are already adding titles for specific events and have room to develop methods to gain other titles in the future.

Granted, most of the titles available currently are directly related to PvP and the Arena ranking system particularly, but there are other examples:

  • Achieving Exalted reputation in all Battlegrounds will confer a title.
  • The first gong ringer of the Ahn'Qiraj event will be conferred a title

For future development, we plan to develop other methods by which titles can be gained, but we also wish to keep them rare, as providing a clear path to title gain dilutes the value of the title.

Maybe an Arena title up like this... "Slave," then on to "Pit Fighter" which leads to "Gladiator," and then that goes on into the last rank being "Champion."

Who cares if the first rank hurts self esteem? It'll just want to make you work harder.

Arena Seasons and the Ladder
One very cool aspect of the Arena System is the introduction of seasons. Each season lasts several months, and at the end of a season, the top ranked teams are rewarded with some truly unique prizes like legendary mounts or other cool items. Members of the top teams will also receive special titles to honor their achievement (highest to lowest):

1. Gladiator
2. Duelist
3. Rival
4. Challenger

Hmm...one of the things I miss from Lineage II was the system they had for titles. Guilds that reached level 3 gave leaders the power to assign titles to their members. Mind you, these are custom titles that you could type out. Some were kind of funny, though it was prone to some people writing dumb things in their titles. I kind of wish someone would allow that sort of thing again, while having a guild leader get an error message if they try to type in a title related to PvP/faction standing/arena. Might help a character gain a little bit of uniqueness. As things are right now, I'm but one of 387568723649857236948562938475698237465987234659842358976132894756928375 Sergeants on my server.
