New PVP system, not worth it?Follow

#1 Dec 06 2006 at 4:51 PM Rating: Decent
I ran 12 matches and got 196 honor

At this rate, I should have some epic shoulders in 2 months. :\

well, what lvl are you? low lvls get less honor than high lvls.

60

All my items are blue 58+

I kept waiting for them to calc the honor I know i had at least 12 matches in before it happened, I probably had more like 18 or so.

I thought they were giving us all a way to have full epic for the expansion? looking more like the EPL quests at this point. Ah well, I get the funny.

You must have read wrong, I got 130+ kills and got around 1.5k honor.

To the OP:

Your bonus honor is not calculated yet. That's the only explanation.
#6 Dec 07 2006 at 2:28 AM Rating: Decent
I don't think your bonus honor will be added anymore...
Before the patch I was making ~60.000 honor points each day (8~9 hours at AV), most of them from the bonus. If they keep that, I could buy all epics in two or three days, and I don't think they want us to do that...

I did 7 av's with my 60 hunter and got zero honor, last night it changed to 819 honor but all the honor I had gotten on my alt rogue went to zero. So all the ab's and wsg's I did were for free (except for marks)I put in a ticket but after a 2 hour wait I just logged for the night. One thing I've seen is people spamming to buy bg marks, I told one guy that they were soulbound and he told me I didn't know what I was talking about.

Yeah the pvp rewards are ridiculous when compared to the items coming out in the expansion. Consider this. It will take approximately 150 battleground battles to get the honor needed to buy this purple weapon. http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=18874 . However, one of the first quest series you get in the expansion, which takes only a few hours to solo complete, results in this green: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=25494&source=test

At level 62, my mage in the beta has already replaced half of his gear with random drops and quest rewards. Two months after the expansion comes out, every current level 60 will have completely replaced his gear with expansion stuff.

something was screwy yesterday and honor didn't get calculated for a while. I posted about it in another thread, but here's the blue post from the Oboards confirming it anyway.

Subject: Honor Calculation and Display Issues - 12/06

As many players noticed this morning the honor calculations were not run last night. This led to some confusion as there is a known issue when inspecting a player with no honor showing that they have a low number of honor (1-14). This number is in fact an error and is showing that player’s highest rank in the previous honor system, it is not an indication of how much honor they have earned.

We have run calculations for yesterday earlier this evening and players should now be seeing the honor they accumulated yesterday correctly displayed at the top of their honor window. This is the final honor from yesterday and can be spent on honor rewards. Players will see that the honor earned before from today have been reset to 0, this is only a display issue and no honor has been lost. The honor accumulated from earlier today will still be added to the total honor after tonight's calculation.

There is a second display issue affecting the “Today’s Honor” totals that may display an ellipses “…” instead of the estimated honor total. This can normally be temporarily corrected by either logging off and back in, or using the /console reloadui command. This issue is slated to be resolved in a future patch.

We've investigated some issues of bonus honor not appearing for certain players from yesterday and we're confident that this was due to the honor calculations being run at a time other than the time they’re normally scheduled to run. We anticipate that after the calculations tonight you will see the bonus honor from yesterday added in to your final total honor. We'll be continuing to keep an eye on the honor gained after the calculations this evening for any further issues.

We also have an update that is currently under development that will add the bonus honor to the estimated honor totals for each day before the calculation, allowing players to track the bonus honor as it's earned in their estimated total. This change will be implemented the next time the realms are restarted, likely with next week's maintenance.

I figured out the problem, it's called "arathi basin" which you know if you are ally it means a lot of losing.

But I had to do it. For the badge requirement. Once I hit 20 badges I moved on to AV and the honor flew through the roof, just like the old days. Already at 6k. I actully went 0-19 at AB and on the 20th we won a match.

Sorry to fret earlier, should have been a bit more patient. Thanks for the replys everyones.

I play only in the evenings and have accumulated 4k honor over two days. I am after 3 weapons which all need AB tokens, so i'm after 70. My plan has been to gather the tokens I need from AB and farm honor in AV. The reason for this is that in my battlegroup the alliance pug's dominate AV but lose AB. The queue times are such that I can usually get in two AB's in the time it takes for one AV to come up. IMO the pvp system will reward you with what you need much quicker than raiding.

At least for now. Most likely those epics are going to just barely cut it in Outlands.

Hey upgrades are upgrades.

Between now and the XPac you have 4 choices.

Reroll an alt.

Raid for lewtz.

PvP for lewtz.

AFK till expansion.

If you want to continue experiencing character upgrades, which is a big part of the game to a lot of people, PvPing is probably the best and cheapest bet.

So will you get new, better gear in the XPac? Sure. It's more character upgrades that fuel the players on their way to 70 and the NEW endgame content.

IMO raiding and the repair bills and, in some cases, headaches that go with it arent worth it.

I completely agree. I was just making a broad statement. I just wonder how much better the gear is going to be in the xpac. I havn't really seen any, though I havn't really looked, either.

Under the old system, most people had no hope of getting the top rewards (the OP sounds like one of those people).

Under the new system, you can grind your way to anything with patience.

Somehow I don't have much pity if a person feels cheated if they can't have a full GM/Epic battleground set in no time. Yes, you can solo play your way to epics, but there is a cost to pay either way.

Y'know, the current 60 PvP rewards may not be that spectacular, but there's nothing stopping you from grinding up 80k honor points and banking them until the expansion is released and you can buy the new top end rewards...

Ialaman makes a very good point. You can even purchase the gems they have on sale(choice of 6) in readiness for your new TBC gear which are swamped with gem slots.

I'm doing just that. PvPing now and through the grind to level 70 and with any luck I should be able to pick up a few nice bits. Will make dinging 70 all that sweeter.

Although I do feel the loss of ranks is a shame, now battlegrounds are all about item gain so for the "man who has everything" like a hardcore raider theres no reason to enter a bg other than a little fun. I would like to see ranks return even if they were harder to gain but decayed slower.

I'm extatic about the loss of a time-centric ladder competition. Now I can get the rewards on my schedule. I made it to exalted in AB, exalted in AV, and halfway through revered in WSG without ever even hitting rank 11, cause I only had so much time I could put in per week. (which was like, 10 hours a week)

There's Ranks with the Arena System.
