Why do some players play with a twink?, is it to gain rep. with a Battleground Faction, is it to show off, or is it to take the fun out of the Battleground?

I'd say there are a lot of reasons twinks exist.

1. It's fun to put your main's money to use by equipping an alt with uber-gear

2. You're trying to mask lack of skill with gear

3. you're a mean spirited person that likes one-shotting noobs in BGs and then camping GYs.

I could go on.

The idea of giving your character the best equipment available doesn't really bother me. The idea of then using that character to bully regular charcaters is about as lame as it gets. the sooner blizzard takes steps to level the field in BGs, the better. IMO.

As I see it, it's usually as player who is bored from doing the same stuff over and over on their 60(s) so they decide to have fun with another character. While some of it might be showing off I don't think they are trying to take the fun out of the BGs. They might just be trying to keep the game fun for themselves. If someone wants to spend 100s of gold to twink a toon then let them, they made the money in the first place.

To feel like a god, at the expense of other people.

(I tried to put it as bluntly as possible)

Wow, quite an assumption.

Untrue for the bulk of twinks, but quite an assumption indeed.

I've never twinked at 19/29, those brackets aren't where the fun is at. Twink a 49 toon, and you'll have the most BG fun you've had in quite awhile.

Gear differences between top notch 40-49 gear and average 40-49 gear are much, much smaller then you'll find in the 60's bracket. Some of us don't have time to raid long hours to be competitive in the 60's, so we do it in the 40's instead, where the playing field is much more equal.

I'm not sure that I agree with that statement. In my battlegroup at least, it seems like the 10-19 division is mostly twinks. Granted not all twinked toons play in the 10-19 but I think the majority do. If someone doesn't want to participate in that bracket, how long does it take to level out of it? A day, maybe two?

To prepare newbies for a smilar experience when they hit 60 and get similarly owned by raiders in T2/T3.

QFT.

Go try to play a game like FFXI where your mentality is well i can stick with sub par gear and no one will care.

Maybe it was coming from that game that stuck me with that mentality but i f'n hate people who half *** it and wear ****** gear in BG's. What's up with these lazy people?

I "twink" because IMO it's the right way to play, you want to compete with people then why wouldn't you bring your best? Why would you intentionally put yourself at a disadvantage in a battle?

Joe and Bob decide to have an old fashioned duel. The weapons are laid out for the combatants to chose: a knife and a pistol for each player. Bob reaches over and grabs the pistol. Joe looks at the items laid out on the table, the pistol is the furthest away, going for that would force him to reach extra far.
He ponders reaching a bit less further to grab the knife, but decides that the toothpick he found on the ground earlier requires the least effort so he goes with that. Joe smiles knowing well in advance what the outcome of the duel will be. They take 10 paces and turn. Bob flicks the toothpick at Joe only to have it land on the ground about 6 feet away from Joe. Bob then chooses to shoot off each of Joe's pinky fingers in a display of his marksmanship skill with the pistol. He then fires off a round at bob's belt buckle causing his pants to fall to the ground revealing, sadly, that bob decided to go commando today. Finally Joe plants one in bob's brain ending the duel.

The moral? The means to participate on an equal level is available to all players, choosing not to is virtual suicide.

The other moral? Stop ruining patch day with twink bitching!

just aking, because it really pisses me off everytime I see those lvl 19 rogues with their "awesome" gear and weapons with firery enchants...
It really takes the fun out of the BG for me, I personally try to avoid playing in a BG if I see that there is more than one twink.
I don't care about the lvl 49 twinks, but the ones I hate are the ones who like to play at lvl 19 to own the newbies.

I like Kiting the Super Twinks away from the main battle. I do this with either my Hunter or Mage. I stay back shoot them or throw magic spells at them while they are killing somone else. Then once they find me I slow them down (CS/Hunter or Ice bolts/Mage) and I run for the furthest corner of a BG. I just keep up CCing the Super Twink (this really pisses them off and they always follow me) as far as I can thus giving my team a chance to win.

Thats how I deal with Super Twinks and I have great fun doing it.

The reason why most of us choose the knife or the toothpick is because most of us have a life :)

If you can't afford a fiery enchant, it doesn't automatically mean you have a life, it means you stink at making gold.

4 small radiants and an essence of fire, stop the presses!

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the 10-19 bracket. Really, I couldn't care less about any of the brackets. If you think dealing with something like fiery is bad, just wait until you enter a 60s BG in your mix of blues and greens. It's a nightmare.

Really, this topic has been rehashed so many times the horse isn't just dead, it's pulp.

Probably. I once had a twink (and another on the way) but it was more of a hobby and a result of taking up enchanting at a late lvl - I would run one of my lvl 60's through BFD/SFK/VC etc. and DE the greens and blues I didn't need. Useful ones went to my "twink" who also benefit from the odd chant. You have to realize that the BGs are a part of the game where a lot of us more casual players can be found. After all WSG doesn't last for hours. Now my "life" is quite complicated so a convenient, enjoyable quick BG after a long day is good fun. So when you croak at the feet of my twink clutching your straw I will just give you a /wave and carry on.

I'm one of those people who complain about it too, and I'm not sure there is a solution for people like myself. I have a lot of interests, and I really have no interest in spending the time to raid for equipment at 60, or to get any lower level characters extremely good gear so I can just join the others who do the same. I see nothing wrong with doing those things, I just prefer not to do it. That's a problem for me, because I do enjoy battlegrounds.. and there really isn't much else available to do other than that and raid, so it's kind of depressing.

I read something about a match making system, where it matches you up with your levels and equipment quality in a battleground.. that would work I believe. It's just for now, people like me (aka those who either suck at pvp or not obsessed to the point of gearing up) are left with frustration. In a perfect world, the twinks would take us into consideration and play "fair", but that won't happen any time soon.

I think the moral of the story here is...

Don't bring a toothpick to a gunfight.

They wouldn't last a few minutes in Jersey

I play this game for the "pvp factor" I love pvp...

You can either spend endless hours for many many months doing raids to get the best lvl 60 gear, or you can spend a few weeks getting the best gear for a lvl 19.

I have a twink hunter and it's fun. Bored sitting in IF looking for a guild or pug isn't that much fun, raiding isn't that much fun, unless you have a good group of people (not progression wise just a good group that makes it fun and not serious hardcore your mom sucks at life so you do to cuz you couldn't tank/heal right).

I made my twink out of boredom, something to do. I enjoy playing and it's a good way to sit back and relax, everyone loves the feeling of being "the best". Ya sure, it's cool to 1 shot some lvl 10's. But I play to have fun. I'm not a twink that goes out just to kill, I'll grab flag, run it. Or if someone else does, I'll protect them, give support, track down the guy with are Flag and call him out so everyone knows.

I just see it as, the non-twinks having regular gear, while I'm having T3, if you could compare it to the 60 bracket. My way to compare, instead of being the one getting my *** kicked, I'm kicking some ***.

GY Camping is stupid, but I'm not going to lie, I've done it a few times, but I usually don't just grab flag and run and end the game as quickly as possible. :)

All I have done for the past few days is BG in the 19 arena with a Shaman toon in all green gear (whie shoulders -.-;;).

Out of at least 20 games, I'd say none of them had "mostly" twinks.

The most I saw was a 50-50 with twinks, but it was fine because all the other toons were 10-12, lol.

I even won a few games against them, and it was with only one horde twink to three ally twinks.

I don't think it is just to bully other players usually. If they wanted to do that, they would just camp the graveyard and rank up HKs.

Mostly, I think they just like being a char with uber-gear, regardless of its skill.

I saw a few twink priests, and at that level priests do not have much going for them. I was able to take down one or two.

I often pick a max level, use alla and a viewer to "twink" a toon. I have fun with it.

Maybe I am wrong; this is just my ake on it.

[Edit]

No Twink can one-shot without some crazy luck.

Honestly, Twinks wouldn't be overly hard to beat if they didn't have weapon enchants. I often take 20-30 dmg from a rogue wep (WooT for 33% reduction :P) but then Fiery hits me for 40 or so. That is what kills me in the end.

How come one person says people twink to feel like a god and then others say, "what an assumption, so not true. most of them twink because.." Aren't you just making your own assumption?

Twinking at 19 and 29 in my opinion are the only brackets where twinks matter. After 29 bracket the enchants quit meaning as much and gear differences are not as huge, as well as there being more skills to make up for gear imbalance and new players having some experience with their class. The brackets where gear/enchants can win fights for you are also the brackets where the majority of the twinks plays. I'm sure that's just a coincidence? Or it could be because it takes less time to level to 19 and 29, since it takes sooo long to level in WoW. -_-
