I wanted to know if there are any wow recorders besides Fraps, but with better quality. I also heard that recorded fraps take up a huge part of the harddrive, so a recorder with better quality and smaller files is kinda what I'm looking for. Anyone got any good suggestions?

Ummm, that makes no sense. If you want better quality, you are going to get a larger file size. AFTER you capture the footage you can convert it into a more space-friendly format, but the raw footage will always be large.

Gamecam is an alternative to Fraps but has inferior quality in my experience.

capture with fraps and then render/downsize with virtualdub or sony vegas.

Yea I notice my thread made no sense at all =)
Wiser now though, downloaded Fraps and found out that it has kinda good quality, so space isn't really the problem for me... However, since v2.8.1 I belive you have to be a member (means you have to pay $37 for the full version) to record for more than 30 secs.

There are also a variety of "help guides" about setting it up to get the best quality while keeping your framerate playable, raw footage size minimal, and yet still keeping good quality. A lot of it is choosing a good resolution to record.

I believe GameCam is free to use (although it adds a logo if unregistered?), but I am not 100% sure. It might be worth looking at if you are loathe to spend money on your WoW video adventures :P

Hehe yeah, enough giving 14 euro every month to play :)
Thanks for the help, going to try it out and see if it's ok.

for better video quality, run the game in 1152x864 or lower. otherwise fraps has to downgrade while recording, which leads to grainy images.
this is because fraps cannot record higher than 1152x864 on a single core processor. if you have a dual core, you can go as high as 2560x1600, so it's not an issue ;-)

for more on this (and some other tips about fraps and sony vegas), see furä's video tutorial (he used to make really nice vids for curse and nightmare's asylum before that).

edit: ok, i tested it myself and checked back with the developers. for the high resolution recording with dual core you need fraps 2.8 or higher.
