3 MMOS for 1 PriceFollow

So the Warhammer: Age of Reckoning newsletter had a poll question.

"If you could pay one fee and play Warhammer, Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online would you?"

Now just forget the exact games mentioned and just look at the question overall.

Would you pay 1 fee to be able to play 3 games?

Instead of 15 bucks a month, it's 20 or 25 or even 30.

Would you?

I love this idea. I get the craving to play other MMOs now and then, but I wouldn't spend enough time on them to warrant paying an additional monthly fee.

But if I could get 3 of them? Depending on what the increased monthly fee would be I probably would do it.

It would help if the games were of different genres. Say 2 fantasy games and a Sci-Fi game, or one of the upcoming Pirate games.

But I like this idea alot.

Now Blizzard obviously wouldn't be able to do this, since they only have one MMO. But if they ever did a Starcraft MMO or maybe team up with one of the other single-MMO companies for a combined offer...

Right now only Sony, Mythic and NCSoft could do this.

Which brings up another question. If Sony, Mythic of NCSoft were to offer a deal of "3 games for price of 1" would you dump WoW for the chance to play more games?

I really would have to give the Mythic one some serious consideration. I miss UO alot, it was my first MMO and still has a soft spot. I like what Warhammer is about, so far, and DAoC seems like a good game.

Obviously the monthly fee would have a huge impact, but even if it was twice normal fees, for 3 games that wouldn't be bad at all.

So would people actually be interested in something like that?

And if so, how would it impact the MMO landscape?

Warhammer Online + World of Warcraft + Lord of the Rings Online?

I'd hit it. Er, I'd do it. Err...

Well.Sony allready has this, with their Station access option..

Not sure how many games it covers, since the page seems to be down...but I think it covers SWG,MxO,EQ,EQ2,Planetside,and more for a single monthly fee...

*Note:after playing SWG before the infamous "upgrades",I wouldnt touch a SOE product with a ten foot pole ever again, and advise others to do the same*

Compared to say 15$ a month for each game, that kind of system does get cheaper in the long run...but personally i can only play one game at a time, considering the long hours i put into it ;)

Back before EA canned the UX:O project, they had a deal for UO and UX:O for $20.00(I believe it was 20) for the two games a month instead of the $12.95 each they normally charged.

I wasn't to shocked when they(EA) made mention of UO, DAoC, and WAR in this last WAR newsletter.... As it stands now, Wife plays DAoC, we both used to, and still do sometimes, play UO(Which is getting a spiffy graphical upgrade in next Xpack), and WAR is a must since I've played all WH fantasy and 40K games ranging from tabletop to even the epic battle card game.

Of course if we(wife and myself) did take up that offer, I don't see us staying with WoW much longer. Just not enough time to dedicate to 4 MMOs.

My big worry is with EA itself. So far they've killed off at least 3 MMOs to 'support UO', and the running joke around my friends is how long till they kill WAR and DAoC to 'further support UO'. one of the first things they did once they got ahold of Mythic was get a team from them to do a full graphical upgrade for the next Xpack.

That's how I feel about Turbine. That group can't run an MMO for the life of them. Screwd up AC1, AC2, and DDO. Let's see how much they can bone over LotRO.

I would have to say No. 3 for 1 and paying 25-30 bucks a month is a waste of my money. I have enough time to just play one (WoW) and even playing that is difficult some times (2-4 day breaks at a time)

Now if I did not have an Wife, a 18 month old Son, and another son due the end of this December, I might give it a shot for 2 months.

I just don't see how you could play that many online games and have any success at any of them.

I guess it's all about available time.

DAoC and UO are both games I put a lot of time into and enjoyed very much for years, having said that I left them for a reason. I've been back to both and it just isn't the same, they have both changed and evolved into games I don't want to send my time on.

No. I am too highly goal-oriented. Playing, for instance, a character in UO will not in any way help my character in DAoC. I pick one game and stick with it.

The Sony Station Access is a good deal if you actually plan to play all of those games. I think it was $21.99 to play 5 games, instead of $60 ($15 each). I had it for about 2 months when I was playing EQ2, but the problem was, is that I was so wrapped up in EQ2, that I never even installed and patched the other games. So I quickly downgraded my plan back to a single subscription.

The thing is, is that these deals almost always take a newer MMO, and couple them with outdated games.

In my humble opinion, UO should be free, and DAoC should cost less than a normal MMO. UO is absolutely archaic, and DAoC is really starting to show it's age, too. So, when you combine that with the game that people would actually want to play (Warhammer), if you are paying $25 or $30, I don't see that as a deal.

Would you really hop on UO if you had Warhammer?

Awww, but it has such nostalgia value!

Didn't UO come out in like, 1996? I'm truely amazed it's still running. I remember how it would verify all movement on the server side before it would let you take more than 3 steps.

I only have enough time for 1 MMO as it is. I'm sticking with WoW.

No, I wouldn't. Unless a genie pops up and makes me an 18 year old, live at home, no expenses, kid again, I don't have the time to even look at more than one game.

Also, Warhammer has yet to entice me with anything.

Yeah like was mentioned Sony already does this. And I believe they're putting vanguard into that subscription list as well. I would just to pop in every now and then on my old guild. I miss them but not enough to pay a full subscription price. It would be nice if I could jump between WoW and Vanguard and other MMOs. It would give me something to do when there was downtime on the one.

It's an interesting question. I like WoW too much to abandon it quite yet, but I admit I get a bit burned out and/or bored sometimes. In the past, I've either gotten back into a game I already own (Diablo 2, Halo) or pick up something new (Final Fantasy XII, F.E.A.R.), and play until I get bored. If there was a bundle deal with several games across multiple genres, I might be tempted. If there was, say, WoW, a FPS of some sort, and a non-fantasy game (like sci-fi or mystery or something), I'd be interested. But bundling games like W:AR (cute, I just noticed the acronym) , DAoC and UA wouldn't provide enough variety, at least for me.

Depends on the game(s). If they're tying a couple outdated games to a new one, it won't make much difference at all, except for possibly extending the life of an otherwise dead game. If two new games were tied, it would do some interesting things to both of them... but I don't see that happening anytime soon...

FFXI and WoW. Find a way to put those two together for $20 a month, sure. But those are the only two MMO's that interest me.
