Every class is needed in endgame!

There are just many hunters so you have to have exeptional skill to get into raiding guild (and bit of luck as well).
And mages are not needed only for food/water but are good single target damage, main source of AoE damage and add CC (Crowd Control) to some fights as well. As for mages spec, frost is considered best for MC, BWL, for other instances is fire viable choice as well. -correct me if I'm wrong, I don't play mage in end game.

As for what to play, best advice I can give you is: Play whatever you like to play.

Every class is needed in the endgame, but there are a lot of hunters.

I have a mage of my own, and personally (I've seriously tried every class) the mage was most fun for me.

Food/Water is very much needed in raids and such.
Frost is good for slowing enemy down and great for solo play.
Even then, I prefer fire (I have tried an ice mage). Fire does more damage and if you have a healer and you are out damaging the warrior, you'll get healed. Plus, if you just back off a little bit, the tank'll pull the aggro off of you and then you continue to fight the moster or whatever.

My boyfriend's level 60 mage (he's got an ice mage) has gotten into raids and I have watched one of the raids. There's been like 4 or 5 mages in the 20 man raid. I think there was only one fire mage, and the rest were frost. I believe frost is more popular, but if you are going to level up your mage, do what you think is more fun. Besides, even as a fire mage you can have frostbolt and frost nova (going to be called "freeze").

But, like Huhulak said, play whatever you like to play. :)

With the talent revamp in the upcoming expansion, hunters will be far more useful in end game content. There damage is being raised and they will be able to help control hate as well.

boy, with this patch I think hunters have been already strengthened so much it's scary...

Yes hunters are needed in endgame guilds. You should lvl whichever one you like the most. Not whichever one can get you into an endgame guild easier.

I just got into one after the patch came out :)

silencing shot FTW

hunters are just so fun to play. i guess thats why most of us take it to 60 and not for endgame stuff.. if you are worried about endgame stuff, dont be, worry about playing and when the time comes, u will get your guild and you will get your epics

I have a 60 hunter, and I have found that he is actually more welcome in the end game than he was in groups leveling up. But there are a lot of hunters already, so you need to be good to raid.

On the other hand, if you are realiable and always show up for raids, you will be popular because so many people think real life takes precedence.

as they all said everything is needed its just a matter of how many of the class the guilds have.
My main is a rogue and i tell you.. it is a ***** to get into a guild - as people want decent geared rogues but i cant get decent gear without raiding.. Vicious circle.

As for hunter population it depends on your server ask around guilds and see what thier status is.. you may find a guild who needs hunters.

on my rogue the guild i eventually joined was full on rogues but i applied the day after a rogue left the guild so i got lucky.. Luck is an important factor too..

At the end of the day what i would do if i was you is get my (your) hunter to lvl 60 and apply for a few guilds if you cant get one lvl up your mage.. i know it will feel like a waste of time if you cant get a guild for your hunter (it happened to me - im now playing Priest) but just think of it after youll have a lvl 60 to pvp with and maybe after TBC you could get better gear than T2 from quests etc.

Just do what you want mate.. and good luck
