1. Spider Hunter pet 2. Buying meat 3. Pet size!Follow

1. A friend and I in my guild had a bit of a brawl about the Spider Pet. I always loved WoW spiders (not the furry ones D:), so I wanted to tame a cool looking one, so I tamed 'Naxaris' a rare spawn in Duskwood. He's doing good. But, before I got it I used a cat, The Rake. 3 levels under my cat, my spider already did higher damage. But my friend still said SPIDERS SUCK! CATS FTW! but like I said, my spider's already better. Discuss. Cats, Spiders, or other? (It got annoying they suddenly decided to start talking about the food chain, Dogs -> Cats -> Mouse -> Spider... Wtf, as if that makes a difference in WoW)

2. There are like NO meat vendors in the entire game. I found one... ONE! WTF! I gotta senda complaint to Blizzard or somethign to add more meat vendors. If you can PLEASE list me all meat vendors in the game. I need to know because that's all spiders eat and I can NEVER find a mind vendor and it's gonna go hungry and leave me soon. Repeat: Someone please list me the list of meat vendors in the game. Discuss if there's enough meat vendors.

3. Do pets grow as they level up? I always thought they did but I'm not sure because someone in my guild says they don't and had it at me for it.

1) You'll find that pets are broken into 3 main categories: defensive, offensive and well-rounded. Defensive pets (bears, boars, turtles, etc) don't have a high DPS, but have high armour and/or health. Offensive pets (cats, raptors, spiders, etc) have lower health and/or armour but have a higher DPS. Well-rounded pets are in the middle for each, giving them better armour/health than offensive pets, but less DPS, and better DPS than defensive pets, but with less armour/health.

If you look up Naraxis on Petopia, you'll find that it has rank 4 Bite when tamed, while The Rake has Rank 1 Bite. You'd have to train The Rake rank 4 Bite now that you learned it from Naraxis. Also, look at the DPS differently. The Rake has a lower damage-per-hit than Naraxis, but it also has an attack speed of 1.2, as opposed to Naraxis' 2.0 attack speed. Since the attacks are normalised now, it doesn't matter- over time, the damage from the two pets is about the same. The only difference is the speed.

Hope this clarifies things a bit! Smiley: boozing

Edit: Forgot part 2!

2) I looked up a meat in the Search bar to the left of the page. If you look at the bottom of this link, you'll see all the vendors who sell it. If they sell tough jerky, odds are they'll sell the meat appropriate for your level.

Edit: made an omission that changed the meaning of my post- added "about"- thanks Dilbrt! Also realised my link to petopia was incorrect- fixed.

Well I think you're close but a bit off on one point. Damage is normalized in the CLASS of pets, as in one cat never does more actual dps than another cat, regardless of speed. However, the dps of different TYPES of pets vary, just like the HP max and the armor of the different types of pets vary. A turtle does less dps than a cat, regardless of which turtle or which cat.

True Dilbrt, but the difference between pets of different species in the same category is by and large negligible compared to the difference in stats in different category pets. I'll use Petopia's stat chart as an example.

At level 60, assuming the same level of loyalty, a cat has 2991 health, 3562 armour and 56.3 DPS. A spider has 3052 health, 3562 armour and 54.7 DPS. It has 61 more health than the cat, and shares the same armour, but has a slight loss of 1.6 in DPS. Compared to a defensive pet like a bear however, the difference is small. A bear has 3296 health, 3744 armour and 46.6 DPS. It has 305 more health than the cat, and 244 more than the spider. It also has 182 more armour than either cat or spider, while having 9.7 less DPS than the cat, and 8.1 less than the spider.

So there are some differences in the stats for each category, but they are negligible in comparison to a pet which tanks versus an offensive pet.

Agreed. Honestly the best way to pick a pet is to choose whether you want an offensive, defensive or balanced pet, then just choose which one in that category that you think looks the best.

lol but in pvp, duels the rake will own nax in a pet fight..yea .."over time" but in pvp u have to deal lots of damage in a short period of time.
and plus u can farm ur meat really..

As far as your friend saying "Cats Pwn!!!"...does he do a lot of PvP, many hardcore PvP'ers prefer the higher attack speed of cats because it is GREAT for interrupting casters. For PvE though I find a well rounded or tank pet more effective.

I'm pretty sure that they actually do grow in size as they level up. My boyfriend's female NE Hunter tamed a Durotar raptor way back when the Hunter was around level 20 and that raptor looked small running around with the Hunter and was well below shoulder height compared to his NE but last time I watched him play his Hunter who is now at level 45+ that same raptor is now taller than his NE. It may be that some pets increase in size by level more than others but I'm pretty sure that the raptor definitely got bigger.

IMHO, no pet in the game is cooler looking than the spindly spiders. I sent my hunter to Tarren Mill to adopt one of the black widow skins there at lvl 9, and I've never thought of dismissing it.

That said, I use my boar a lot more. The spiders don't have a special ability yet, and since I do a lot of PVP, the Boar Charge ability helps enormously, especially in WSG. Also, I can feed it conjured bread, which makes its upkeep free.

I don't know the meat vendors on the ally side, sorry. It's never been an issue for me since I've always gotten enough meat from killing beasts.

Here's a trick if your pet is really unhappy: despawn it by taking a flightpath. Enter a battleground. Run towards the enemy. Summon your pet when you get near. Let them kill you. When you rez, your pet will be at full happiness.

I assume you mean "do pets grow as they go up in level". The answer is yes, their size increases at certain level breaks. The difference is most noticeable with winged pets, e.g. bats and owls, and relatively small with the low-to-the-ground pets, such as boars and spiders.

So if I understand you correctly you sent a level 9 hunter (who can't tame a pet yet) to Tarren Mill (a horde town) to tame a level 20+ spider.....

Sorry, got my zone names scrambled, forgot this was the Alliance forum and used poor syntax.

The moment my Orc hunter finished the “tame pet” quests at level 10, I took the Zepplin to Tirsifal Glades to tame one of the lvl. 9 spiders there with the glossy black and red black widow skin . Named her Spindle.

A low-level Ally would have a harder time getting to Tirsifal to adopt one, but not nearly as tough a time as a Hordie would have getting an owl. Especially since the change to meeting stones: have a friend summon you to the Scarlet Monestary, then head a few hills south.
