Coming from a computer science background I believed that
PROC stood as an abbreviation for
procedure, a small piece of computer code one could repeatedly call at several points in a program to perform a specified task. Instead of writing down the same instructions down over and over you just wrote one word; the name of the procedure.
Since then I learned that
PROC actually means
programmed
random
occurence. Describing the nature of that part of the game and not the implementation.
