Edit: Okay, I just tried reinstalling WowReader just to make sure what I wrote was right. Some of it wasn't so here's a fresh guide.
Edit2: [/color] is no longer usable for breaking links or tags so I've edited it out in the section about how to enable the WowSignature. Instead I used the bold tag on the o's in wowsig so now it should be displaying properly.
First of all, get WowReader
here. You can click the link and choose to run the setup without downloading it to your computer first, or you can choose to save it on your harddrive for whatever reasons you might have and then run the program from there. In any case you should get to the installation window when doing this.
Keep clicking the
Next button until you get to the
Install button which you also need to click in order to install WowReader of course.
WowReader will be installed on your C-drive by default, in the folder
Program Files. It will not create a desktop shortcut so you'll have to make one yourself. To do this, open your WowReader folder - default
C:\Program Files\WowReader - and drag the file
wowreader.exe to your desktop, but remember to hold down the Alt-key when you let go of the icon. This will create a shortcut to WowReader.
Now, double click the shortcut and it will open up WowReader. Since it's the first time you're running it you need to tell it where to find the file
WoW.exe. It should localise it automatically so you just need to double click the file in the window, but in case it doesn't, your
WoW.exe file can be found in your World of Warcraft root directory which is
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft by default.
WowReader will automatically put the needed mod files in your
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns folder, but in case it doesn't, you'll need to copy the files from the folder called
uifiles found in your
C:\Program Files\WowReader folder over to the
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns folder manually. Make sure you make a new folder in the AddOns folder and call it
Wr.
Now you're almost ready to go. However, you need to tell WowReader your Allakhazam login and password (
NOT your World of Warcraft login and password!) in order for it to upload your information. To do so, select
Options from your WowReader menu found at the top of your WowReader window. Then select
Login from the drop-down menu and it should open a new window. You should be set to
Anonymous so make sure you click the circle with the text
Log In (required for profiles). Two boxes should appear below where you need to type in your Allakhazam login and password. They should be labelled so it's easy to figure out which one is which (alternatively, the box where everything you write turns into asterisk (***) is where you need to write your password
). Once you've typed in your Allakhazam login and password, click
Save.
Now you're ready to play!
Since WowReader put a mod in the game you don't need to run WowReader while you play. Simply play the game and enjoy and then run WowReader afterwards. WowReader should attempt to update itself automatically every time you run it and it should display how many new profiles it has found and other useful information in the little window. To upload the information to Allakhazam.com, simply click
Upload.
Now, to find your profiles here on the site you need to find the menu link called
Your Characters... in the left menu. Click the link and you should be able to see an overview of the uploaded profiles. If you see a character missing chances are you haven't uploaded it. To make sure WowReader can find that character you need to login and logout of the character once. WowReader will only upload information about characters you've played.
Now, lots of people have those World of Warcraft images in their signatures that show ranks and kills etc. This is a Premium Membership feature only. To get Premium Membership, click
here.
If you already have Premium Membership, this is how you can put the image in your signature:
Open up your
User Account by selecting the link from the menu on your left (it's right underneath the search box). Now, in your signature box, write the following:
[w
owsig]ID number[/w
owsig]
To find your ID number you need to click on the desired profile in the
Your Characters selection screen which is also found in the left menu. This should redirect you to your profile's page and you need to look at the link for that page. The ID number is the last numbers in the link.
For instance, the link to my druid's profile page is:
http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?70509
So his ID number is 70509.
So in my case I would have to write [w
owsig]70509[/w
owsig] in my signature box.
That's it, now you just need to save your account information by clicking
Save User Settings (button underneath the signature box).
Note that to my knowledge it is only possible to have one of those profile images in your signature at a time.
I hope this helps.
