That's right kids. The supplies for the war effort are going up on their own now.

I didn't do the math, but I clocked 10 light leather in 2.5 minutes. Not much, but every bit helps if your gate isn't open yet.

The supplies are just used to sell on the AH right?

That was a tad sooner then I'd of thought.

At least it will still good a good long while for the supplies to be done at that rate.

Wow, bummer.

I was hoping the gates would open late on my server.

Purples for the masses.

All hail Blizzard development team.

I guess it had to be done, but it’s a shame they started so soon. I farmed over 170 silk early this morning. Its one of the few things Blackhand still needs. I liked gathering leather much better. I got leather every kill and only had to turn in stacks half the size of bandages. For anyone who’s having trouble sleeping, I highly recommend doing some silk farming. It’ll put you right out.

Still, even after all the mind numbing farming and all the coin collecting, my human rogue is still only about 1,200 points into revered reputation with the elves. He still needs nearly 20,000 points before he can buy a kitty mount. I had hopped to milk the war effort for more reputation before Blizzard started doing it for us.

Edit:

Does anyone know how much repuation a level 60 character gets for turning in a stack of runecloth?

Blizzard had said there were mechanisms in place to help out those servers that couldn't do it on their own.

And the timing makes sense.

Blizzard doesn't want there to be a HUGE difference from when the first server opens AQ and the last server opens AQ. If there had been no system, by the time the last server opened the gates, the first servers hardcore guilds would have AQ on farm status and all the strats and such would be out there. It would somewhat trivialize the content.

It's kind of like a new guild entering MC now, there are dozens of strategies out there so you already know what to expect and how to do it, it just becomes a question of execution.

So by getting the openings of AQ as close together as possible, the Dev team is cutting down on trivializing of AQ as much as they can.

And trivializing the effort it took for the other servers to do it on their own.

I don't care either way really, I'm just surprised it's so soon.

A couple of the hardcore guilds on Illidan had gotten together and would take donations for prizes.

They released that there wasn't that much incentive for other guilds (the ones without BWL on farm status) to work their butts off to get AQ open.

So they set up a raffle with some AWESOME prizes.

You sent the materials (full stacks) to their designated character. You get entered into the raffle.

Prizes were 1000 gold, trip into MC and you'd get your full Tier 1 Armor Set and 3 non-class items, Onyxia's head, etc..

That gave the non-BWL people motivation to farm.

Top alliance guild on Llane did something like that, turn in the needed supplies to them, they give you raffle tickets for a drawing for some nice loot and your choice of Heads off the 1337 bosses {Onyxia, nefarion, and such}

Not sure how that's going.

At the rate Filter posted (and factoring in normal server advancement), it'll still be 6-8 weeks before some of the slower servers get their gates opened (I'm using my own, Dalaran in 72nd, as my math guinea pig). That's hardly trivialization.

Although, I imagine as time progresses, the rate might increase a little. But nothing too dramatic. It will still have to be player-based advancement for the most part.

Distance = rate * time. If the rate is low enough, it will be a long time for the NPCs to do most of the work themselves, to cover a fixed distance.

I've turned in so much Roast Raptor it rediculous. It barely even scraped the surface of the total. And I'm guessing about 65-75 stacks of Silk Bandages, at 5 stacks or so a day.

1 stack of runecloth = 75 rep for non human, and 82 rep for a human.

I milked the war effort to get my cat as well. 6,600 Runecloth bandages later, I was there. I am human as well, and started at halfway through honored with the elves.

You get the same amount of rep for 1 stack of runecloth and 10 commendation signets. (Which is how many you get for turning in 1 stack of runecloth, so it's the same either way).

Milk it while you can. War effort is the best way in the world to get a mount.

That is a slow rate, so it will take a while, but the question is, "Is that the rate til the gates are open"

We could be talking about an exponential growth rate of the computer generated supplies. I.E., if everyone on one server stoped turning in, would the rate eventually go up to something like 1000/2.5 min? Or would it stay at a steady 10/2.5 min?

Tshirt - you want depressing? I farmed for about 5 hours one day and got around 800 linen. I took it with me to my raid and passed it around for people to make into bandages for me so I wouldn't have to do all 800. All in all, about 8 man hours spent, and I didn't even turn in one-tenth of one percent.

I did this three days in a row, before deciding my efforts were fairly fruitless.

About time.

And getting Lean Wolf Steaks is a PITA. Alot of my guildies have alts that are in the level range to pick up Wolf Flanks from mobs their level, and this item doesn't drop very well. I've killed hundreds of wolves to only get like two stacks of Lean Wolf Steak. My guildies are supposed to send me the raw wolf steaks for me to cook (since the recipe is difficult to find, vendor limited supply) and so far, I've gotten hardly any steaks.

So much for working on my rep to get a cross faction mount! I'm going to just go back to runecloth farming. It seems to drop more often than steak does.

Anyone know how this will work on brand new servers that open down the road? will they all have to open the gates after they open, or will they start with it opened up? and if so, how "auto" will the gathering be on them, if they need to open the gates? any predictions?

Last I heard you need a scepter to ring the gong regardless of supplies.

Can't quote me though, as I am not positive. Was just told by a guildy that Blizz said so.
#23 Feb 04 2006 at 11:36 AM Rating: Decent
I know you need a scepter, that's not what i was worried about... i guess mainly what I want to confirm is that new servers will come online with the gates closed for sure.
