I'm going to have to chime in on the side of Ahimsa here, it makes no difference Best/Popular you are still asking the same ******* question that has been spammed a bazillion times on the board.

You sir are an **** and I advise you take your drivel back to the O-boards where they belong.

Isnt cheating the filter a bannable offense?

Well either way, its not the same thing, best is a matter of opinon but will most likely be "shaman" do to them being the most balanced class available atm, while the most uncommon class would be Priest I think.
In short
Best = Opinon
Popularity = player basis

So..it does make a difference glad to know your an idiot :)

OP, go here. I'm sorry for all the bashing you got, but i think we get cranky on tuesdays or something. Dont let these low lifes get to you. I thought it was a semi valid question. Better than the hunter build threads, the nudie patch thread and maintenance threads.

No its nice to see that you cant understand that the reason I hold Highelfcleric or whats his name in contempt is not because he asked "best" or "popular". No the reason I mock and act rude is because he is the same as any number of mental deficients that come in and ask ignorant as sh[b]
it questions.

Yes Ahimsa made the mistake of confusing the two originally, however her message still rings true.

No, we really don't care so much about it here.
It would be preferable if the OP was sub-default though.

9:30am, Local C.

I found it odd you weren't present, so I kept an extra copy of the debriefing. It should be on your desk. Beside the huge stack of ****.

Funny thing about people that ***** about useless thread is that they rarely provide useful thread themselves.

Kinda weird you'd put that in the 'useless' thread... a technical discussion about various hunter talent isn't 'as good' as somebody who want to know which class is most popular?

Geez. Do you consider my 'essay' on the pvp system to be useless too? :(

I am so glad that tuesday has never affected me as I am at work the whole time that WoW would be down if I still played.

Maybe i should have been more clear. The hunter build threads are over abundant and annoying. not so much useless, my apologies. I understand your point though.

Edit: Took out some contradicting statements that made me look kinda retarded.

In that sense I get what you mean... but heh, hunter talent is the hot topic this month ;p, at least it's pertaining to the game tho.

The whole reason i came in here was to back up the OP a bit, I can understand not wanting to play the overpopulated class. (undead rogue perhaps?) And If i knew about alla before i started WoW i probably wouldve started the same thread. I enjoy my priest and its nice to be a class thats not everywhere you look. Same reason i like to get really strange and unique pets for my hunter. Some of us like to be different.

a web search led me to this thread. today is my first day with WoW -- and i wanted to find out what most people were playing... and why. so i could better choose a class to play... one that wasn't overloaded. so, that is what good this thread is...

now, my question: if ANY 13-year old knows what good ANYTHING is, would they still have to go through puberty?

To everyone bashing the OP about popular and best, and the difference, perhaps you should notice that he said neither. In fact what he asked was what was the most populated class. hmmm.

WOW census

This lists all the realms and class/race/faction distributions. I don't think it's exact, but it should give you an idea.

edit: Ah I notice that the topic says popular. I think my point still stands as the actual question in his post was clear enough.

Perfectly reasonable question, OP, so long as you weren't planning to roll whatever "most popular" class was mentioned...not b/c rolling that class is inherently wrong, but b/c it would expose your motives.

Anywho, my non-census based opinion on class popularity depends upon server type.

PvP servers are overrun with rogues and with good reason. Ganking is way more fun when you're invisible. The world PvP ability of rogues is nearly unmatched with their suprise attacks and escapability. Of course they can be beaten, don't get me wrong, but their abilities give them excellent control over when and where they fight, a level of control that even the best players of other classes largely lack.

Hunters abound on all servers. Hunters, hunters everywhere and not a drop to drink. So to speak.

Other than that I don't see any huge class concentration one way or the other. Pallies and Shamans seem more common these days, but that's likely simply b/c they're new (to the other faction), which means that probably a few more people are rolling them, but really they're just new so you notice and remember them more.

1) mages
2) warriors
3) rogues
4) hunters

four most populated classes at 70 in order, so im gonna go ahead and say mages are the most popular class, along with the others mentioned

Just wanted to note, this thread is almost two years old. Interestingly, though, I think the responses would be identical today. And I suspect the OP long ago figured out what they were after.
