I gave up on Blizzards downloader in the end and went with the FTP alternative posted here somewheres (multiplay.co.uk). Downed the patch at a smooth 750kbs and am now just waiting for the servers to come back on-line :)

This thread is about the regular scheduled maint that occurs every Tues (US servers). I have heard Euro servers are down for scheduled maint on Wed...can someone confirm this?
However, servers go down from time to time for crashes and what not, so it may be on of those random times.

The euro maintenance is at 0300 CEST to 0700 or 0800 CEST (can'r really remember) on wednesdays.
At patchdays it goes on until 1100 CEST.

The same can't be said for this patch day. I'm not quite sure what is going on, but a number of US servers are down for "extended maintenance" today. Rumour is that these realms, including mine(Mannoroth, second oldest realm in WoW, one of the highest populated, and still on Beta hardware), are having their hardware upgraded FINALLY.
So.... if I'm actually able to log in later today, I hope to find a less-latency-laden playing experience.
I've also heard the rumours that 1.12 is releasing today? Is that truth?

The joy's of maintenance day.
Not only are we expecting "extended maintenance", but my server (Mannoroth) went down early, at 11 PM Pacific, for realm upgrades. My hope is that they're FINALLY updating the aged Mannoroth's server hardware, but I was hoping the same thing last time.
I also suspect that the upgrade is being done just so Manno can handle 1.12, and the extra load the new World PvP is supposed to put on the realm hardware.
Time will only tell. I guess I'll actually get some sleep... until the server is back up.
...or I'll be bored and stay up anyways.

Extended maintenance due to the fact that problems have arisen with the Cross-Realm Battlegrounds.

OK, actualy question... since I'm always working at this time, is it usual to get a fatal error of some sort when trying to log on if WoW is down for maintenance? I tried earlier, got the patch download, but went back to try again and I get a fatal error that prompts a message to Blizzard. Normal? Thanks.

Yes, WoW is a good game, and you apparantly don't get the fact that things happen. They're working on a major addition to the game, you can expect problems to arise. Seriously, you can't tell me that you're so good, you could go and fix the problem right now.

Just a quick post because I cant play so nothing better to do. Yes I can understand there problems due to this linking between realms. But we arent talking about a small company here. I'm sure they expected to have problems that couldnt be forseen (for some reason) until implemented. I just hope that if they are going to basically be down for 1/4 of the day then they get it right the 1st time. Seems they are always working on issues somewhere, so by now I would expect they running out of problems. I just had no knowledge that today was going to be a long down-time day. Its annoying to sit down to play, sit through the patch download and install just to find the realms are down. Its a love it or leave it deal I guess. But I do know for any other service I pay a monthly fee for if they have these types of issues I am compensated in some way. With blizzard it seems I am to pay the same fee monthly regardless of the amount of time there servers are down. Its these times I read through the EULA's and think if anyone would have actually read them in the beginning the game would not be as successful. But I like many have alot of time and money invested into this game, so regardless of how long they are up and/or down I will play whenever I can. After all it does entertain me like no other game.

Seems you have never checked your billing. Every time they have had a day like today, I have been credited for the day. Yea, it is only 50 cents but it is the credit you state they never give.
