Best PvM Class?Follow

#1 Nov 21 2004 at 11:52 PM Rating: Decent
Which class has the chance of being the best Player vs Monster type? Lets say purely pvm no pvp at all geared towards killing monsters solo.

My money is on shaman because of its versatility ;\ but personally i'd like to be proven wrong.

pve = hunter (i would think)

but! every class can and will be good at pve! every one can solo :D

and sharman is good to... but shaman is good at pvp...

I'm just curious if there are any simularities to FFXI considering that the Beastmaster was pretty much created for pvm play. There has to be a class geared more towards being able to kill monsters solo than anything else.

King of PvE is the Hunter with a Warlock following suit. The reason being is that their pets regenerate at a phenomenal rate no matter what level they are. Think about how fast you regen when you're level one. Now double that and maintain that rate consistantly throughout your levels. The only reason a Hunter is better than a Warlock in this regard is that because a Hunter goes through a FRACTION of the mana which a Warlock goes through.

If you have to wait in between kills with a Hunter... there's something going wrong. Course we're nowhere near as good as the melee's when it comes to PvP.

'Nuff said. = )

I swear these threads are almost on the scale of the WoW vs <name> and the "I came from FFXI blah".

Sadly there also just as useless.

arn't the higher end warlock pets hard to summon tho? and don't last horribly long??
#13 Nov 22 2004 at 12:28 AM Rating: Default
no idea about that... never seen or heard any warlock complane about that...

for the record, its PvE ala Player vs Enviroment, rather than PvM.
but yeah everything that people have said is good advice, except VampyreKnight's post.

though he is true on the fact it doesnt really matter on which class/race you choose.
WoW is a very easy going game, and while some classes are better at certian situations in PvE than others, and some races are marginaly better than others at spesfic classes, there is really no noticable differnce between them, so by going with what you like, chances are, you will have a good PvE charicter on your hands, and more importiantly, youll be happy with him/her because you got to pick what you liked the sound, or look of ^_^

the majority of the class strengths and weaknesses only tend to come out in PvP, and then its more of a rock paper scissors situation than anything else.

Main warlock pets are imp, voidwalker, and succubus. Others you cant really use because it pretty much brings certain death to you and your groupmates(in order to summon infernal and doomgaurd certain things must be done, and even then you only have control over them for a short time before they become immune to control).

As a Hunter you'll be able to solo Elite's that are up to one level higher than you. Expect your pet to die more often than not and keep a healing potion handy in case you have a run of "evade evade miss miss dodge hit miss evade" bad luck. It actually get's easier to solo Elites with your Hunter when you start getting into your 30's.

You'll be fine.

So generally a class that has a pet have an upper hand in pve or pvm (or whatnot) situations since its pretty much 2v1. Just how strong can a hunter pet get? (is each pet unique in its own way? like wolf = attack and bear = defence oriented?)

Is it possible to use a pet to wear the enemy down then when pet dies run back ressurect the pet and keep at it?

Yes. Big time. The regen rate of your pet is what really makes the difference.

As strong as the Hunter (lvl 60 as of now).

Somewhat. Honestly, in the end game it means absolutely zilch. So don't sweat it.

Not if you're going solo. Soon as the pet goes down whatever it was that you were attacking is going to be on top of you so you better not stop shooting/swinging. Rez the pet when the battle is over. To do otherwise is suicide.

Lets say LvL 60 warlock with Doomguard VS LvL 60 Hunter with any pet.

Pet VS Pet
Which one would be the strongest? ^_~ I'd assume the doomguard since its summoning req is pretty mean and that it loses control.

One thing to note about Hunters pets, there is a difference, different pets eat different types of food. If you want an easy one, you can just get a cat like i did in beta, you can feed it the various meats you find, and if you run out, take up fishing. Fishing is a cheap way to get a lot of pet food.
