Grouping and Level RangesFollow

Can you group with people of a vastly different level than yourself in WoW and still get reasonable XP?

It seems to have historically been a problem in MMO's which I know city of Heroes solved using the sidekick system. Has WoW solved this problem another way?

Thanks All

You get normal experience when grouping with people of similar level. Decreased experience when grouping with people of higher level.

Uhm.. it's never been a "problem". You shouldn't get any xp if you group with someone vastly different then you.

Why should you get any benefit if you have someone more powerful that does all the work?

FFXI's 3 level range wasn't enough, 5 is better. I believe WoW's is a little looser then that.

At level 28, I was grouping with a level 16 guy, killing level 15-16 elite monsters. He was getting around 40 exp.

This is from the WoW community site:

Quote:
There is no maximum or minimum level for joining a group.

If a group has a member that is more than 5 levels above the other members, you will not receive any experience from the monsters you kill.

You can find the link to it here

How to interpret that - if you have a lvl 10 12 14 and 17 - no exp because lowest is 10? - or the average? or what....

It's based off the highest level.

Level 10 would get no experience.
Level 12 would get a little.
Level 14 would get some.
Level 17 would get appropiate.

That's assuming that the level 17 would get experience off the mob to being with.

If the monster is gray to the level 17, he wouldn't get any experience off it to begin with, so none of the party members would.

If the lvl 17 gets 40 experience off it, then the xp the other party members get would scale down appropiately.

I would say the level 17 would get (experience / number of players in party).

Otherwise I can just group with someone a level higher and tell him to level normally. He gets normal exp, I get some exp. (THis is not true)
