Some people don't understand that logic, Kruspe. That's why people pay money to advertise for companies instead of the other way around. It's the best form of advertisement any company could ever hope to accomplish, because it works. Anyway, I want the 10-day free trial because one of my friends is stubborn as hell and I would love to have him play the game with me, so it's really not that big a deal to me if I'm paying to advertise for Blizzard...I love Blizzard, and I want my friend to enjoy the game with me. ;)

Only a true moron would expect a pet that comes from buying a collectors edition of a game would fight for you. Gives away your location in PVP? Unless you are a Night Elf or rogue, I'm going to see your *** anyway.

The Druid and other classes (I believe) have the ability to hide too. However, I think you can pick up your pet and have it stay in your inventory.

sure a wow art book is great but. did any of you went to chapers laty? I got my wow art book there for $8.00 (canada)

and i agrea with Overlord that the pets are usless but then a gain since when a mmorpg CE ever came out with a usful item that will help you out?

The irony was that you're making fun of people buying the CE because the maps will be available online, yet you bought the strategy guide which, not surprisingly, will have all of its contents online also. How much was the guide, $25 or so?

The CE comes with a pet, soundtrack, art book, map, and something else I can't remember - for only $30 extra. You paid $25 extra for information that will be available to everyone in a couple weeks (as you said so yourself), so you really don't have any position to argue how pointless the CE stuff is.

he realy was not making fun of ppl that is geting CE...

making fun of ppl is like, "OMG i can't belive that you wasted that money" or "wow you suck"... or some negtive thing like that but I don't see any of that...

I would like to get the stragy book to... I am againt the paying $ for stuff i can look up but... laty i am likeing book format better then the internet stuff... (call me old, but i love smell of books)

every one has the right to say what they want... as long as it don't bash ppl or make race-discrimation. I am more then happy to hear it...

and i feel strange that ppl are defanding CE, like overlord said some thing that was out of line or something in the line of "you all suck!"

he didn't

:D let's all enjoy this game :D

see you all in wow

Well I'd assume this is the exact reason why the pets aren't anything super-special. They didn't want people who paid extra to have any certain advantages over people who bought the regular copy. Blizzard gets enough flak during its normal course of business that if people felt pressured into buying the CE because of some additional functionality, people would start flipping out. They'll flip out anyway because some people have a stupid panda following them around, but if that panda tore people's throats out and auto-looted for you, the battle.netters would start impaling themselves on wooden spikes outside Blizzard HQ.

OK, here's a question:

What do you expect from a CE? I've worked video game retail for WAY too long, and with the exception of maybe Half-Life 2, I've never seen a better CE....

wanna pay more money for it i will buy a normal copy for $50 and sell it to you for $150. then you can say you spent more money than anyone else for the game.

This is certainly derogatory.

I'd just like to take this moment to tell people to not read the strategy guide as gospel. Strategy guides are dated and full of incorrect information, even at release. Most of the information Pallier has spouted off in this thread is totally incorrect, but it must be correct "because it's in the strategy guide!" You get as many pets as you want characters, and they don't eat, nor do you need a level requirement to get them. You login, find some quest item in your backpack, and hand it in to some guy for a pet.

This information comes directly from the developers, not some third party strategy guide maker whose information was likely given months ago to provide time to arrange lay-outs and print up copies. Given the choice between Blizzard devs and BradyGames (I'm assuming that's who made it), listen to the Blizzard folks. Championing the strategy guide as some Bible just reinforces the stupid things they write. Former BSTs and WARs from FFXI will know exactly what I'm talking about here.

Okay let's analyze this.

-The full game on both CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
Yay, less installation time. Bonus points there.

-The Art of World of Warcraft, 200+ page hardcover art book
That's what, 8-10 bucks? So from 50 to 60 dollars now.

-World of Warcraft Behind-the-Scenes DVD
Another 10-15? From 60 to about 75.

-Official soundtrack
At least another 12. From 75 to 87.

-Cloth map charting the continents of Kalimdor, Azeroth, Khaz Modan, and Lordaeron
Another 5 dollars. 87 to 92.

-Signed Collectors Edition game manual
Another 25 or more. $117 dollars separately.

So, at least $117 buying all this separately. Yet, for $80 USD, and not even including all the features. Yeah, I think that's well worth it. Other than the fact that you're saving $30+ dollars, you're getting some cool stuff.

The long and the short of it is, too some of us $30 dollars isn't really a lot of money. It's less that half of what i get paid for an hour, I spend more than this every 3 days at Starbucks. So for a cute little panda, a nice looking cloth map, i can put on my wall beside my computer, and a art book that will probably end up on my bathroom reading table, its worth it.

personaly i dont intend to buy or read the strat guide, i want to learn and explore eveything myself in WoW

Fake ST:TNG outfit- $200, 18 mmolrpgs- thousands of $$, another awesome Blizzard game- priceless!

I really feel that the reason that there is no in-game functionality to the CE is because it would be basically forcing everyone who wants to be "competitive" to pay an addtional $30 for the game. I personally think its entirely positive that blizzard is choosing to keep the actual gameplay level no matter what version you bought and rewarding people for the money/loyalty with something completly for looks. If they gave you something that would effect the game they would be no better than currency sellers. Kudos to Blizzard for always making products that are worth every penny!! I'll be picking up my CE on Tuesday with no regrets.

One thing i should mention though....

After looking through the CE, the cloth map is disappointing.

Oh yeah, this also,

The artbook would cost way more than 10$ if sold in stores. Yes, I know someone else posted that they got it for 8$ Canadian, but I don't see how. If it were to be sold outside the box, I'd bet at least 20$. I'm basing this off the price of the Final Fantasy IX art book a few years ago selling for 25$. It was soft cover vs. WoW's hard cover, and the quality of the paper used in the WoW one is higher than FFIX's. I say 20$ instead of 25$ because I've grown to despise Squaresoft and I refuse to think Blizzard would charge as much for a similar product....

After reading most of your posts in this thread let me sum it up to you like this.

The CE gives you the following...
· The full game on both CD-ROM and DVD-ROM
· The Art of World of Warcraft, 200+ page hardcover art book
· World of Warcraft Behind-the-Scenes DVD
· Exclusive in-game pet
· Official soundtrack
· Cloth map charting the continents of Kalimdor, Azeroth, Khaz Modan, and Lordaeron
· Signed Collector’s Edition game manual
· 10-Day Free Guest Pass – invite one of your friends to join the epic quest

To some people like yourself this is seen as "Not worth the extra $30". For others who have the $30 to spend it is seen as more then worth it. Personally while I wouldn't mind having a CE I just don't really have the extra $30 since I am buying some expensive christmas gifts this year for my gf.

If you honestly don't think that all of that stuff is worth it then that's fine don't buy it, because that is more then ANY other MMORPG has ever had with a CE.

Forgive? Sure. Forget? Never. I never make it my policy to forget duplicitous ignorance lest I fall under it's influence twice. It's never wise to forget a mistake.

According to Blizzard I'm right:

Quote:
Choose one exclusive pet from three surprise creatures available in-game. Every character you create on your collector's edition account will have this option, so try all three...

Which you can find here. Only thing I would want out of the CE would be the Soundtrack. But I'm not willing to pay an additional 30 some odd dollars for it. :D

I think that's more than any GAME has ever had in a CE. I think that most of the stuff is worth paying the extra $30, and I'm getting it all! Talk about a bargain...as was previously stated, this could easily be a $120 value.
#50 Nov 21 2004 at 10:59 PM Rating: Default
i wonder if the art book i got at chapers will be the same as the one in the ce... if not then i will get ce :D

#51 Nov 21 2004 at 11:36 PM Rating: Decent
This has to be the most uninformative thread that I've read so far about WoW. Money is all subjective. What $30 is worth to me and is different to Bill Gates. Maybe someone would find it worthwhile to buy a $500,000 sports car would be ridiculous to another person. What is exactly are you talking about? AND, 18 other MMORPG's? I have been playing MMORPG's for a while, but I don't think I could even name 18 of them. Exaggeration is not very helpful.
