whats the point of pets in the CE that do nothing but follow you around?

the only cool one is the mini diablo anyways and even tho they look mean and angry but they just eat and eat and eat with nothing to do but follow you. I mean useless pets can be bought for that purpose. why spend real money when you can spend game money to get a pet?

besides that you can't even use the pet til your like almost level 20-30.

no special incentive there.

If they wanted to make the 3 CE pets more appealing they could at least make them attacking pets and/or pets that are useable at level 1-5. there is no real point to the current 3.

There is a point. The point is to say "hey I spent more money on this game than you did, and I have a cool pet and a cloth map!". ;)

You can use the non combat pets at any levels. None of the items that summon/dismiss them have a level requirement to use. They also don't need to eat, so all they do is just follow you.

why buy a cloth map when detailed maps with stuffs locations will be out 3 weeks after the game is (online of course).

wanna pay more money for it i will buy a normal copy for $50 and sell it to you for $150. then you can say you spent more money than anyone else for the game.

false info? it comes straight from the stratagy guide. preordered it.

and as for the 10 day trial... i have no friends i'd like to share this game with... its all mine... go away.

if non combat pets could be used at any level then why do they have a level to obtain in the stratagy guide?

Lets see...

- Pet
- Soundtrack
- Cloth Map
- 200+ page Artbook
- 10 day free pass for friend

It's not bad. The only reason I'd get the CE package is for the artbook. I'm a fan of Samwise's art work! :D

Also you cannot get any of the three special pets (diablo, panda, zergling) anywhere else in the game. You can purchase other non combat pets though like snakes, cockroaches, and mechanical squirrels for 50 sp.

And the purpose? Have you ever heard of this thing called fun?

Personally I got the CE mostly for the art book and I think blizz deserves the $$. Of course that doesn't mean I won't be using the pet 8)

Panda for Tauren Druid
Demon for Troll Mage

you can only have 1 CE pet per account so only 1 of your characters get a special pet. I still don't see the point of a little creature that follows you around and gives away your location to everyone in PVP but doesn't fight or even loot for you just sits there farting and looking stupid. if i wanted something like that i'd just play the game next to my nephew.

The three pets are unique I think to the CE. Only other pet in game worth getting, in my opinion, is the dragon whelp anyway. At least its not like EQ2 that charges you 40 more dollars for the CE compared to wow's 30$ more for their's. They only give you a dragon pet, that has to stay in your house, a talking statue and a pair of somewhat faster than running boots.

um ok so no game info will ever be on the internet after the game is released ever... right.

this is not my first rodeo cowboy. played 19 other MMO's with 8 of them from launch. game info is out after 2-3 weeks of full retail. thats nothing new. the stratagy guide info i was refering to is the level requirments for the pets.

Ummm, Overlord, is Blizzard forcing you to buy the CE package? No? Then lay off the people that plan to get it and enjoy it. Thank you.

Because the strategy guides for MMORPGs are well known for their great deal of accuracy.

Personally, I'd much, much rather have the CE version than the regular version and the strategy guide.

Blizzard has stated that all characters created with a collectors edition will start with a Present, that you can turn in for a mini Panda, Zergling or Diablo. So any and every character you create will have a CE pet =)

I got the CE for the artbook, the DVD, 10 day trial and the pets.

Artbook = fricking awesome. I had a chance to see it, it's quality.

DVD = best cinematics ever(TFT ones included with the WoW intro cinematic), and they look even better on my 36" TV as opposed to a 17" monitor.

10 day trial = Convince an old friend to play, since he thinks WoW wont be very good. (I'm not sure what's wrong with him, but at least I convinced him not to play EQ2)

Pets = unavailable ingame and a clever addition. Can't wait to see a little diablo following my dwarf warrior around.

Plus 30$ isn't really that much money. But I've always been a fan of CE's, especially Blizzard ones. I thought the War3 CE was very nice.

If you want to be overly analytical about the purpose of a non combat pet, then you're right. There is no point to it. It's all a matter of preference. So what if some people have a non combat pet? It doesn't make a significant impact on the game if you do or don't have one. Some people think they're cool, others do not.

Why do you feel you should bash people who got the CE?
#20 Nov 21 2004 at 10:03 PM Rating: Decent
I honestly preordered the regular edition. I don't have the money to spare (only $20--i was tempted, and still am), and the only truly drawing things are the soundtrack and art book.

By the way, here's a photo of what's included in the thing:

The reason is quite simple: some, or all, of the extras in the CE package are desired by it's purchaser. I don't think anyone is buying the CE purely for the pet. I wanted to get one for the DVD and the Artbook; the map might be pretty cool too. I can actually one-up your next question as to why anyone would want WoW swag: why did the person in your Avatar buy that hokey ST:TNG uniform?

Because they can wear it to work and church, right?

The irony was that you're making fun of people buying the CE because the maps will be available online, yet you bought the strategy guide which, not surprisingly, will have all of its contents online also. How much was the guide, $25 or so?

The CE comes with a pet, soundtrack, art book, map, and something else I can't remember - for only $30 extra. You paid $25 extra for information that will be available to everyone in a couple weeks (as you said so yourself), so you really don't have any position to argue how pointless the CE stuff is.
#23 Nov 21 2004 at 10:09 PM Rating: Decent
Well, I don't care if people want to buy the CE, some people like the extras. The only thing I don't get is the 10-free day trial for one of your friends. It's like, "I'll tell you what Blizzard. I am going to pay you some extra cash so I can try and get one of my friends hooked on your product." If anything, you should get money back if one of your friends uses the 10-free day trial, since your advertising for Blizzard. Reminds me of people who pay extra money for a T-Shirt that has the Nike symbol on it, so they can become a walking billboard.

Since you are such a self proclaimed expert on games and their release, I would have thought you would know that there is already quite a bit of info on the net. Maps of most zones, quest info, etc.

Only a true moron would expect a pet that comes from buying a collectors edition of a game would fight for you. Gives away your location in PVP? Unless you are a Night Elf or rogue, I'm going to see your *** anyway.

i'm not bashing anyone i'm just saying that Blizzard's idea of special stuff for a collectors edition isn't all that.

the least they can do is make the CE pets auto looters for the players or scouts that lets you know when danger is nearby.

artbook, cloth map, and stuff is all good but is it really worth $30 for pictures?

if i pay more money i want more "in-game" content that gives me an advantage over ppl that didn't pay extra money.

I mean come on if you went to buy a car and bought a 2005 mustang convertable for $64k and someone bought the same exact model for only $25k and you ask why he got his for less and the dealer says yours is CE cause you got a pine airfreshoner and a wooden gear shift nob with a cup holder, what would you say?

if it was me i'd say it better have more horse power, a sound system that could cause a 10.0 earthquake, and a warantee that last for 5 additional years, do you see? looks get you nothing its all usefullness. so why sell a game for $30 more just for some little bit of eye candy. give pets that do something besides look, how about a map with hidden or secret locations of special items, how about a custom look in the game for your characters or a special starting weapon thats stats level with you (would be useful at lower levels but not at higher because quality would decrease with use).

lets not make another City of Heroes that has all eyecandy, make some usefullness out of the special stuff not just something to leer at all day long.
